HISTORY
Season 01 (2001)
In 2001, the Sweet F.A. commenced as the BigFooty Football League, but altered its name in the throes of setting up its inaugural season. Two teams (Team KFC and Dingos) formed and played a practice game, which in turn generated enough interest for another team to be put together.
This team was initially called Grendel Football Club, named after its founder, but the name was changed to Team Timmy Football Club prior to its first match. Yet another team was formed, known simply as The Terminators FC, and they took the field in a friendly game against Team Timmy. A fifth team, Team Pump, was formed, and the sixth, the Ardent 18, began to form at that time. Further practice games were played as a leadup to a preseason and proper season competition for the year 2001. Terminators FC then changed their name to Bigfooty Dragons FC, and the Ardent XVIII changed to the Pagan Ducks, and completed their team list to be a starter in season 2001.
Then the seventh team was commenced, and completed by Feb 16. They took on the name of the Seventh Wonders. Team Kournikova were preseason champs for 2001, while Seventh Wonders were inaugural premiers of the main season.

Season 02 (2002)
The Dingoes and Team Timmy folded, and three new teams, Darkness Eternal, Hurricanes and Razors, were formed. Razors established a connection with the folded Dingoes. Team Kournikova changed name to Titans FC. This meant that the S.F.A had gone from a 7 team competition, to an 8 team one. The Bigfooty Dragons took out the 2002 Preseason competition against Razors. After 4 rounds and a break, the competition experienced a change of direction as Mobbenfuhrer handed over the reigns as administrator to eagleskickass. From here the season continued with a few ups and downs until finally the Hurricanes defeated the 2001 premiers the Wonders in the Grand Final for 2002.

This meant that the S.F.A was now a 10 team competition. The renamed Mt Buller Demons made it to the Grand Final, but were beaten by the West Coast Magic by 10 points.

Season 04 (2004)
There were quite a few additions to the league as well as folding teams after the conclusion of the 2003 season. Darkness Eternal and the Hurricanes folded, while 5 new teams were added to the league, in Alberton Swamprats, BigFooty Bombers, Blues Brothers, Fremantle Dockers and Geelong Gumbies. This left the competition at a record number of 13, necessitating a bye. The Roys, in their second year in the competition, won their first premiership, by 20 points against debutants the BigFooty Bombers.

Season 05 (2005)
For the 2005 season, there were again a number of changes to the format of the competition, with Blues Brothers, Junkyard Dogs and West Coast Magic folding, and both the Las Vegas Bears and a new, unrelated, Dragons team entering the competition, resulting in the elimination of the bye and a twelve-team competition. Prior to the regular season, a three-team tri-series between the Seventh Wonders, the Fremantle Dockers and the Las Vegas Bears stood in for the Preseason Competition which had disappeared in recent seasons, but would return for good not long afterward. In the regular season, the Fighting Furies won the premiership over the Alberton Swamprats by 11 points, but needed a second attempt to achieve this after the original Grand Final ended in a draw.

Season 06 (2006)
There were 2 folding teams and 2 new teams in 2006, with the Razors and the Fremantle Dockers folding, and the East Side Hawks and the Koalas joining the competition. The number of teams therefore, remained at 12.
Last years runner-up, the Swamprats, won the premiership by 17 points over the Las Vegas Bears.

Season 07 (2007)
The Koalas and Titans folded, the Southern Sharks and the AFL All Stars were added to the competition, and the Seventh Wonders changed their name to the West Coast Wonders, the competition remaining at 12 teams for the third season running. The BigFooty Bombers won the premiership over the Fighting Furies.
One of the competitions most controversial sensations occurred when the Southern Sharks defeated the Roys in a final, only to be penalised 5 goals for late team submission, reversing the result. The Sharks would lose their next final and bomb out the series.

No teams were added to the league, so the league had a total of 8 teams under new administrator TFLUA-Tiger.

Season 12 (2010-2)
Under a mandate not to alter the number of clubs, the Sweet FA entered into Season 12 with the same eight teams that competed the year before. This year was to be a watershed season for the East Side Hawks, who claimed the premiership over the West Coast Wonders. After two runners-up trophies, the Hawks had finally asserted themselved on the big stage. The Gumbies again faltered during the finals, going out in straight sets. For the first time in some seasons, the Furies failed to feature in finals action.

Season 13 (2011)
With the same eight clubs, the league met 2011 with a new season and some concerns about flagging interest. Last years premiers, the Hawks, were struggling to attract activity, and the league as a whole was under review. The constituency responded with a groundswell of efforts to revive the competition's fortunes, and a positive jolt was felt throughout the community. Season 13 would actually end up as one of the most active of all!
Reigning Premiers Eastside got off to a rough start suffering penalties for incorrect team submissions, while The Demons and the Wonders took off early, the Dragons and Gumbies also thereabouts. At the other end of the scale, the Furies endured an horrific season start, losing a record number of games until well into the second half of the season.
As was the trend with Sweet FA seasons, everything started to shift after the halfway mark. A team submission error from Mt Buller stung as they dropped away, and the Dragons suffered their all-too-common late season blues. The Gumbies fell to mid-table and would endure a tug-of-war with the Roys for that elusive 4th position. The Furies finally scored a win, and would finish with 3 for the season. The Bombers hit their straps, and the Hawks got off the canvas to forcibly penetrate the final four at the 11th hour. The Wonders, though, maintained consistency and took out the minor premiership with few hiccups and only one belch.
The much improved Roys team was the first casualty of the finals, tortured by an irrepressible Eastside outfit. Next to drop would be the Baghdad Bombers, who went out in straight sets (six-poor, six-awww).
The Wonders met the Hawks at Subiaco in an epic rematch of the last GF, but it would be the West Coast team which would prove far too strong, winning their second flag. Eastside would add to their impressive list of bridesmaid's trophies, but their drought had already broken last season.

Season 14 (2012)
The league was a flurry of activity prior to Season 14 with news of the West Gate Trolls new team bid emerging. Led by NickGrant69 as captain and WiseGuySam, DemonJim, ThePuppetMaster and striker475 as deputies, the Trolls bid was lauded by many as a shoe-in to be granted entry into the league. Sensationally admin boncer34 blocked the bid, emphasising his stance in a "stinging critique." The Trolls maintained their guise as a new team in waiting throughout Season 14, but disbanded as they failed to maintain the energy that had seen their rise in the first place.
The Southern Dragons began the season well, taking out the pre-season competition over the more highly fancied Mt Buller Demons. The Dragons took that form into the season proper, winning their first 4 games, while the reigning premier West Coast Wonders fell to near bottom having lost their next three after winning their first game against the Roys FFC. The Dragons maintained their position atop the table for the duration of the season, the Demons and the Bombers joining the Dragons in the finals, while the Wonders recovered from their terrible start to finish 4th, scraping into the finals just ahead of the Gumbies by a small matter of percentage.
The Dragons became the first SFA side to exit the finals in straight sets after finishing top at the end of the minor round. The Demons and the Bombers took the hard route through the finals, the two teams meeting in a hard fought muddy grand final, with the Bombers winning a very low scoring affair.

Season 15 (2012-2)
The Sweet FA world was abuzz all season with an announcement from the Administration that expansion would be brought upon the following year. All eyes closely followed the submissions for teams 9 and 10, a shortlist comprising three very notable presentations taking centre stage. While a fourth team, the Sunstate Norverners, failed to build to eligibility for final voting, it would be the Royals, the Swamprats and the Warriors that would fight to squeeze into the two available slots.
The pre-season saw reigning premier the Bombers take out the cup comfortably over the Gumbies. S14's choker the Dragons began the season poorly winning only one of their first four games, but then bounced back to win their next six as they moved towards the top of the table. The Bombers season was up and down as they went WLWLWL in their first six games, but a run of 5 straight wins between R9 and R14 was enough to see them finish top. After winning their first four games and five of the first six, the Wonders were also up and down, only a draw with the Furies in rd 13 sw them jump above the Dragons on the final ladder. That same draw was enough to keep the Furies in the top four at the end of the minor rounds, locking the fifth placed Demons out prior to round 14. The Gumbies were unable to maintain their preseason form, winning only 4 games for the season.
The Furies had to win two games to make the Grand Final, the Wonders only one, but that meant nothing come Grand Final day, with the two teams playing out an all time classic, the Wonders falling over the line in a high-scoring, tight like a tiger contest.

Season 16 (2013-1)
For the first time since Season 11 - when the Roys replaced the Mod Squad - the list of competing teams changed. Further, with the inclusion of the Gold City Royals and the readmittance of the Alberton Swamprats, this was the first change in the number of teams since Season 09. The OFG Warriors put up a strong show, but ultimately fell short of their admittance goal.
A huge influx of new players accommodated the introduction of the two new teams leading to the highest levels of activity seen in the competition's history.
A very tight season saw first place just three games clear of seventh, while a new 6-team final series accompanied the expanded competition. 5 weeks of finals followed in an overly complex finals system announced by Ljp86 prior to the season. Much controversy surrounded the fact a team could lose twice yet still make the grand final. And so it nearly was, with the Hawks losing their first to game, winning their third, but falling short in the prelim final.
The Gumbies were the main beneficiaries of the system, winning in week one, losing in week three, winning in week four to make the grand final. the Furies had to win their first three games in order to make it to the big dance. The Grand Final was decided by a solitary point, the Gumbies win condemning the Furies to two straight Grand Final losses by less than a goal.

Season 17 saw the league expand it’s media domain with the introduction of the SFA Podcast. This was the last season as admin for Boncer34, ending a reign that spanned 6 seasons, the longest in SFA history. The Southern Dragons changed name to Dragons FFC with immediate results as this would be the first season where the Dragons would win a finals game, ending a near-ten season drought. The eventual winners were the West Coast Wonders, taking home their fourth premiership and equalling the Fighting Furies as most total premierships in the SFA.

Season 18 (2014)
This was Okeydoke7's first season as administrator of the league. Season 18 saw the reintroduction of the Las Vegas Bears to the league who had played their last game in Season 7. Also, the league saw the return of former administrator Frankston Rover who lead the charge for a new expansion bid called the Coney Island Warriors. This saw the league increase from 10 teams to 12 and as fate would have it, the Bears would start the first part of the season on the very bottom as the Warriors start on the very top. The Bears were eventual Wooden Spoon winners with the Warriors making it through to the second round of finals before bowing out to the Furies. The Baghdad Bombers changed their name to the Baghdad Bandits. The Mount Buller Demons won their first ever premiership, ending an 18 season drought against the Fighting Furies.

Season 19 (2015-1) (thanks to Danoz)
Season 19 saw a third and fourth (Alberton -> Sin City, Gumbies -> Wolves) established club change names in 3 seasons, leading to a new rule requiring administrator approval prior to names being changed. The off-season was also kept busy through several charity drives for Oxfam and BeyondBlue, and the arrival of the NWO Dragons, a gimmick designed to create controversy and discussion around the league. The Warriors continued the luck-laced beginning, finishing on top after the minor round, while the Wonders earned their first ever wooden spoon. The Bears scraped into the finals due to a final round draw between the Royals and the Swamprats, only to bow out in the first week of finals. The premiership was clinched by the Dragons FFC over the unlucky Warriors, the first in their 15 season existence.

Season 20 (2015) - 2 (thanks to Danoz)
The milestone 20th season began with controversial scenes due to the administrator okeydoke7 not seeking consultation from the committee over the fixture, resulting in outcry from traditionalist league supporters over the unfair result. Once it was clear there would be no movement above, the season got underway, a season which would be the last overseen by okey. Season 20 was momentous also for the introduction of a secret simmer, as a means to remove any ability target a specific person over claims that they cheated to benefit his/her own team. After losing their first 8 games, the Wolves sensationally scraped into the finals, after winning 6 of their final 8 games, and only one win clear of the bottom placed Hawks. Amazingly, only 3 games separated the 4th placed Dragons from the bottom dwellers. The Fighting Furies won the grand final over the Mount Buller Demons, becoming the first club to 5 premierships.

Season 03 (2003)
Before the beginning of season 2003 the Bigfooty Dragons FFC folded and 3 new teams, the Roys FC, West Coast Magic and Fighting Furies joined the Sweet FA while Pagan Ducks changed their name to the Junkyard Dogs and Team Pump changed to Mt Buller Demons LTD.
