I have noticed there is a fair bit of SWFL followers who come in the WAFL board to talk about the competition. Since there is no WA regional forum on here (rather not have one anyway) and the SWFL is the biggest competition outside the WAFL I thought it was only natural that it had its own thread.

The first major news for the year would be Heath Black coaching HBL but I don't really want to discuss that.

What does everyone think about the new points system the SWFL may bring into play to even out the competition. (like the WAFL system) I think it was 7 points for an ex AFL player, 5 for an ex WAFL player and 1 point for a local player.

Can anyone see this going ahead? And does this include all players at the club including those who are playing in the resys? Will some resy players be turned away due to this points system as a club aims to improve their league list with WAFL players?

I believe it's a ok idea but there are cracks in the system

Yeah apparently he is, but how long did he stay with Peel Thunder last year? A word from Black doesn't seem to go along way. I remember either hearing he say or I read it some where that now that he is a bigger bloke than he was compared to his playing days he will look to play up forward or back not in the midfield

Yeah alright guys we get it, his pretty big. When HBL start training I might go down just to see if he is putting in the hard yards or just calling the shots

Alistair Pickett, Luke Newick and Raphael Stack have been linked to a few clubs. The talk is of them asking a fairly high price though. Have to wait until April too see what happens. Newick would dominate the ruck and around the ground with his size and mobility.

Trent Carroll coaching AMR, possibly playing too. Nathan Carroll may find his way down to Gloucester Park too.

Russell Sparks coaching Collie. Who started training this week.
All clubs have resumed training, some a month or so ago, some in the last week. Season Proper kicks off mid April.

I can see Pickett going to Carey Park and with that Stack may follow specially if Matt Virgo stays there. These players will take up a fair bit of points if that new points system goes ahead.

Not sure about Newick. But the second big club would be South Bunbury and if they can some how get him there, and I have heard Luke Bairstow has left South Freo and could be joining cousin Dylan at South Bunbury they could match Carey Park this season.

Nathen Carroll will be a big plus for AMR and I am sure Trent will slot himself at FF, with Nathan at CHB.

Good to see this thread get stickied

Have heard that a couple of Victorian boys are coming over to the SWFL. Not to sure whether they are ex VFL players but one would expect them to be decent to get them over here, possibly find them jobs / housing in the area and would be getting $$$ on the side as well.

Not a big follower of the SWFL, so excuse my ignorance, but I've noticed that Damien Gaspar's connection at Carey Park and at East fremantle has lead to a couple of Carey Park players coming to EF this year. Liam McGuire and his brother plus one of the Garlett boys. I know Liam McGuire had big injury probs at SD, but a lot SD fans rated him....Can anyone tell me which one of the Garlett boys is at EF and is he any good?.....whilst how good are the McGuire boys?....can all three make a mark in the WAFL this year.

Which club?

Not all sure if they are going all to the one club or not. But the clubs that are north of Bunbury region I have been told

Can anyone tell me which one of the Garlett boys is at EF and is he any good?.....whilst how good are the McGuire boys?....can all three make a mark in the WAFL this year.

If this is Glen Garlett I am going to be mighty pissed:mad:. Was very average in his junior years to say the least but apprently played aright as a forward pocket this season at SWFL league level. I wouldn't say he is overly quick either unless he made some sevre changes in the past 3 years to improve his game and ability.

That is the only Garlett I would know of, unless EF are giving Cody Garett another chance after being at SD and completely stuffing up his chances by being convicted of breaking into SWFL clubs and did time in jail.

Liam has the tools to become a good WAFL player. His younger brother Corey is also training with the Sharks at the moment. He is about 6'2,has nice skills and is quick, but body needs development. It is indeed Glen Gartlett. I think you are being harsh on him, he has good skills and is not slow by any means. I understand he kicked a bag in an Intra Club for the Sharks a few weeks ago.

Yeah I guess I was, but I just stated what I thought of him at a junior level (about 4 -5 years from now) and he must have had a sevre improvement which I guess he did so all the best to him.

But why East Fremantle? His district Swans didnt want him? He already has his cousin clint aying there

Damien Gaspar is the Football Manager at East Fremantle when he isn't playing for Carey Park on Sundays and would have helped a great deal in getting all 3 to the Sharks.

Geraldton zone not big enough for the Sharks hey? Now their pushing into Swans country zone of Bunbury (a whole 3 clubs)...just as long as they pay the transfer fees for those 3 boys! ;)

what do clubs have to pay a certain fee for going into another club's zone to recruit a player?

What happens if your club zone couldn't recruit for donkey's balls? And to this another club from not in your zone wants to give you a go with their side but don't really want to cough up a fee.

That is rubbish

Yeah EF is definitely raping SD Bunbury zone.....3 fella's out of a prospective 66 players ( 3 teams X 22 players).....anyway sounds like SD have had plenty of opportunity with these 3 boys.....didn't Liam McGuire spend a few seasons down at SD......whilst the other two are early 20's, it's not as though they they just started playing footy this year is it?.....

Harvey have recruited some former ruckman who played for East Perth, Robinson and a 4 time WAFL premiership, 3 of them at Subiaco I think his name was Hayes

Tunnelling Tony Notte is an unforgivable offence!:p

Big fan of Liam, Freezin. Cool head, really good in traffic, when on song and free of injuries a very potent rebounder. Should make a fair mark with the Sharks in the WAFL. What's the brother's name?
