Swimming After Workout

Someone I swim with is a doctor and said she uses this to help with her ears after swimming when someone else asked the other week:

The other thing that a lot do is wear those silicone ear plugs during a swim to avoid water getting in there at all.

Yeah doc at work recommended similar.
Been told to use it a couple of times a day now and to keep my ears dry (so have been wearing plugs in the shower too!).

First ever open water race at Mt Eliza this morning. Pool-like conditions helped, but certainly thought it went well (did 600m in under 12 minutes - which is comfortably faster than I’d have ever done that distance in a pool somehow).

Think I’ve copped my first ever swimmer’s ear.
Shit is rather uncomfortable.

Infection has settled, but my hearing is still cooked and I need to see a specialist 😬

Congrats! Always good to get through the first one

Thanks,
Reality hit hard doing a similar swim at Mt Martha on Monday. Got a bit choppy about 100m out and my lack of open water experience definitely reared its head! Ended up taking longer to do 400m than the 600m on Saturday.

I was there Monday, it was deceptively slow conditions

1500m PR tonight and it was in choppy conditions in the lake.
Finally got hang of trunk rotation (mostly out of necessity as my arms were often going through waves instead of over) which made a huge difference.
Obviously still a lot of technical flaws that I’m going to get (professionally) looked at, but at least this opens up a bit more volume in open water.

Highly recommend this guy, has a heap of content on YouTube to get you started, and his in-person clinics are very good if you get the chance.

I’ve signed up to one of their Melbourne clinics in May.

Went for a swim in the ocean at Bribie Island yesterday morning, would not have been anymore than 400-500 meters, water was almost a mill pond.

I very rarely swim, however I do consistently exercise ie HIIT Pilates, high repetition dumbbells, long daily brisk walks and tough multi day treks once/twice a year, but I found that short swim very tough, muscles sore I didn't know were there.
