I may be getting ahead of myself here but it looks probable that our beloved Dockers will finish 3rd - 4th and face either Sydney or Hawthorn away.

For my part I would much prefer Sydney away than Hawthorn.

We seem to play alright against the Swans and have won several times over there recently plus a draw ( which we should have won ). Hawthorn, on the other hand, seem to know how to break down our defence.

What say ye all?

If we beat the Cats, Hawks and Port we will finish 2nd and not have to worry about playing them at home;)

I want them to play in Sydney. I have a few reasons:

1) I live in Sydney
2) I was in the US when they played here early in the year
3) with the long awaited basashi jnr arriving a month ago, I haven't been able to do my usual interstate trips to catch a couple of games. I haven't been to a game since I went to the GF

If only for my sake, I would prefer a Sydney game.

Don't care TBH.

If i were to be picky i would rather the Hawks at the G as it gives us that extra run at the G in front of a packed house.

It's frustrating having this discussion. Freo should really be sitting on top of the ladder right now! If only they dispatched St Kilda by 100 points as predicted in the build up.

I would say there is a fairly good chance you will get a Sydney Freo final in Sydney, either qualifying or prelim

Agree, but we were also one kick away from potentially discussing whether we prefer Adelaide, Collingwood or GC.

That is reliant on Geelong beating Hawthorn.

Hawthorn is on 56 points.
They have Melbourne, Fremantle, Geelong and Collingwood to come. Assuming we beat them, and they beat Melbourne and Collingwood - that leaves them on 64 or 68 points (depending on the Geelong/Hawthorn game).

Geelong is on 56 points.
They have Fremantle, Carlton, Hawthorn and Brisbane to come. Assuming we beat them, and they beat Carlton and Brisbane - that leaves them on 64 or 68 points (depending on the Geelong/Hawthorn game).

We are on 52 points.
We have Geelong, Hawthorn, Brisbane and Port Adelaide to come. Assuming we win our remaining games - that leaves us on 68 points.

So second place would come down to percentage between us and the team that wins the Geelong/Hawthorn game. We easily have Geelong covered in that department, but we're 10% behind Hawthorn right now: we'd have to belt them by 10+ goals to stand even a slight chance of jumping past them on the ladder.

So in short, even if we win all our remaining games, we could still finish 3rd.

Will be Sydney at Homebush wont it ?
Don't be so sure it will be held there - while it's the most likely outcome, I would not be at all surprised to see it scheduled at the "new, improved" SCG. If it was a prelim it would definitely be Homebush, but I've just got a feeling...

You are correct. The AFL will probably screw us on this one. We should hope and pray for homebush because Sydney don't play well there. But they will say the SCG is bigger now so we play there (because the AFl know the swans hav more chance there)

I also think there may be a chance the Swans have a deal for finals with ANZ

It'll be at the SCG if it comes to it, bookmark that.

Have no worries with that either to be honest. I see no issue with playing there.

Anyone, anywhere, any time... :p

haha - never really bought into that bullshit line. Of course you want to be at home or if you're away to play the ground that suits you best and / or against the side you match up best on.

So Swans @ SCG I feel would be our best bet at scoring another home prelim.

The top 2 boat has sailed, 3-4 is most likely where we'll finish ...

Tough call on OP's question; I think Sydney, especially if it's at the SCG would suit us better. Though the Swans love that ground, we play it as well as anybody. If it's at Homebush, it's a bit closer to a neutral ground. More likely to win that one I think.

On the other hand, Hawks at G would be a boom or bust game. More likely to lose, but if we win there against Hawks, we'll be chock-full of confidence and red hot to take it out from there - not dissimilar to last year's stirring win at Geetroit. On the other hand, we suffer a humiliating loss to the Hawks (more likely lets face it) in first week of the final and that would just about be the end of our campaign.

Like IP just said though, if it's really about getting the home prelim, I'd take Sydney at either ground as the more likely option.

If we play the way we are at the moment it'll be a home final against Adelaide or Essendon.
Port look cooked and the Kangas are 3 games behind us and we would need to drop the four games left and North win the four by a good margin to make up their poor percentage.Would have to be a monumental cockup for us to miss the four.

Agreed; although NM have 4 easy games and 3 out of 4 for us will be extremely tough and Brisbane will be no push overs. However even in current form it'd be pretty terrible to lose our last 4 games straight, PA are only a game behind us so we're not home and hosed yet.

One week at a time.

Swans but I still think playing Geelong is possible and would be our best option other than hoping Geelong plays Hawthorn in the second round which would be bloody handy!
