Harbour City Hornets offseason thread 2011/12

In a major shake up today in Sydney, new Sydney CEO, Coach, President etc Knobby announced the Sydney Broncos FC will now be known as

Harbour City Hornets Football Club

Knobby went further to say a lot of players are out of contract at season's end and are effectively playing for their careers with their AFL teams.

On a sad note Scott Stevens has officially retired from the club and we wish him well.

Go Hornets !!

The Harbour City Hornets today announced their awards from their Best and Fairest Dinner and the awards are as follows;

Best First Year Player - Isaac Smith

Best Team Man Award - Dan Hannebery

The Club also congratulats Ben Reid on his All-Australian selction

And the Best & Fairest award goes to Scott Thompson

In major news today Steven Salopek has advised the club he is seeking a trade, whilst still contracted to the club for another 2 years, Salopek advised he was seeking greating oppurtunity elsewhere.

Club coach, Knobby, advised "Steven is certainly still a required player and we will hold talks with Steven and his management in an effort to retain him on our list, however, if a trade is what Steven is after then we will respect his wishes".

It is also rumoured Mark Jamar and Andrew Welsh are also considering their futures.

In other news, Isaac Smith, Patrick Karnezis and Daniel Pratt all signed contract extensions earlier this week, however, the club had no option but to delist Brad Howard on account that he is no longer on any AFL list !

Harbour City Hornets wish to welcome to the club Sam Fisher, James Kelly, Brent Reilly & Austin Wonaeamirri. Welcome to "The Hive" boys !

Coach Knobby said "We are really excited to receive the 4 players during trading, Fisher will provide rebound in defense whilst Kelly & Reilly add some midfield options and Wona will find a role as a goal sneak."

Jordan Lewis has also agreed to terms with the club, but will not officially become a Hornet until the pre-season draft, Lewis is expected to fulfill and midfield role as well.

Unfortunately, Andrew Welsh announced his shock retirement due to injury, he will be missed at the club.

The Hornets also acknowledge the contribution to club by Scott D Thompson, Dan Hannebery, Matthew Warnock, Ben Reid, Steven Salopek & Dylan Grimes who were all involved in trade deals and wishes them well in the future.

Lindsay Thomas and Cameron O'Shea joined the Hornets in a trade deal which saw Nick Maxwell leave the club.

Lindsay had an up and down year last year said coach Knobby, but his best is very good and we need some forwards. Lindsay will spend a lot of time practicing his goalkicking in the off-season.

Cameron is still on 19 years old and will fill a role for us in defense and could very well end up being a long term player with the Hornets.

Welcome to "The Hive" boys.

Harbour City Hornets advise that Courtenay Dempsey, Dean Polo and Tom Mitchell (F/S) have joined "The Hive".

Dempsey was traded in along with draft pick 23, for David Myers and draft pick 38.

Draft Pick 23 was then used to secure Tom Mitchell under the father/son rule.

Dean Polo agreed to join the club via the pre-season draft from the Gold Coast Devils.

Coach Knobby said, "We are really excited to get Tom to the club, he probably would have been a Top 10 pick, so to pick him up at 23 is a bonus for us, as we also keep our National Draft Picks 4 & 7. Courtenay & Dean offer us more choices in defence, Courtenay was injured for most of 2011 but his form in previous years has been good, whereas Dean is a very underated player and will slot in nicely"

Nice guernseys. How the heck did you make them!?

Dean Polo is a good pick up and it will be interesting to see how he will go under a new coach at St Kilda.
