will be interesting to see whether they do go down the tubewould have to be a first for a team to go 27 and 3 for a season and win the premiership (it would appear they will) and then fold that same yeari think if you had a choice to keep south or sydney most would go for sydneymore success, more tradition, all-round better team

Launceston Casino City suffered a similar fate. Won the championship in 1982, folded in 1983

The NBL was screwed the day they signed the deal with Foxsports (that was after they still insisted on Ch10 showing live game IIRC).

Free to Air TV is wht got people interested in the NBL. I remember the days when you had Tigers vs. Magic on a Saturday Night with 10,000 at the Tennis Centre.

Those days are long gone now. I'd be looking to get games on SBS or ABC somehow, to try and pipe up some interest.

The move to Summer didn't help either. It was a good idea in theory (not competing in the same timeframe as AFL), but it backfired.

Soccer has shown that with the right administration, a sport can rebound.

The NBL probably needs a white knight right now to bail them out, and rebuild from scratch.

yeah at the beginning summer was working. maybe it still is to a lesser extent.

funny thing is when the nbl was thriving sydney wasnt that strong. then there was a cry for a successful sydney team to get the nbl to the next level.

Back in the mid 90's, Sydney were getting 9,000 a game to their games.

Tim Morrissey (as much as I can't stand the fool for his Sydney bias especially with the Swans), wrote a great article as to why they've failed up there over the past decade since then.

So many mistakes were made, and you can mostly blame ownership for that.

Thats the strange thing, they pretty much merge the Supersonics and the Westars to create the Kings. Yrs later with the NBL not as popular as it was...."we need another team in Sydney" Great idea guys!!!!!!

Kings r goooooooooooooooone. Its BullShit.

Bring back all the foundation clubs (Brisbane, Newcastle, Canberra + Geelong, Hobart and the Kings) under special rules, and allow less than 3500 seat stadiums with no Air Cond.
