Sydney is a phenomenal talent, needs some strong guidance from here on who he should hang out with and where. Suggest that being in Perth and at a loose end is not likely to turn out well. Marlion and Dusty are two that have needed a wake up call in the past (to differing degrees), maybe they can help lead him through this. Either way, proud of the club for sticking by him.

Absolutely LOVE the way Jack has come out unequivocally and thrown the clubs support behind Sydney. Focussing on him as an individual young man. It is what's needed at this time. Hopefully Sydney can get himself to a place where he can then focus on his footy, down the track.....
Well said and nuff said.

Phar Ace you may have to qualify the top 5 claim, the version we saw last year would have put him at about pick 50
The 2019 version might have been a pick 15 at best, check out the list of draftee's in 2018 it is pretty impressive.

Will be a star if he wants to be.

Dont dispute that. He has most of the tools of an elite talent expect the most important one, that is self discipline.

fantastic. EAD haters

EAD haters, seriously ? I am 100% convinced every single one of us wants Sydney to make it. That does not stop some of us actually seeing and understand what he has shown so far. Sydney talks a nice game but his actions so far has gone against that talk and has spoken to the fact if he does not LEARN finally what it takes to make it, he will be just another wasted talent.

Seriously, just look at Stacks socials. I am not talking about the photo's of gang stuff, kids his age all do that. I am talking about the drunk of his head, getting smashed on a night out all the time he goes out if he is not supervised. There is no way the club trusts him out on his own, that is indeed a fact. So far he has shown when he has had the freedom to be on his own, he royally stuffs it up.

Now if he was just a normal kid working at safeway or going to school, I would have zero issue with that as most kids go through it, I did. It's how we grow up as young men in todays society. The difference with stack is that he is supposed to be a professional footballer. In taking that job, he has agreed to NOT behave as a normal 20 something and put his health, fitness and club before his own personal wants and desires, that's a reality, speak to an elite junior, they all understand that. They do it as they know they can make 30 years worth of wages in 7-10 years.

The only way Stack makes it is if he 100% wants to and is committed to do so. I hope he does, seriously I do but I do not trust him to do so. That does not make me a hater of stack.

The last paragraph is a big call. Do you know people in the inner circles.? Or is that just your opinion?... personally I believe Stack is at least top 10 if not top 5 in his draft year. As the premier we got a free swing at a young man with elite skills. Hopefully he can put some of his issues behind him, with enough support from family, friends & the club. It would be a bit sad to see a young man with his ability & joy for the game leave....I think it would be the games loss & Sydney's...
Just my opinion and I respect the fact that others think stack is worth persevering with due to his perceived talent. However I am of the opinion that he'll never reach that level as he appears to lack commitment and discipline. Even though I doubt he'll be the star we hope for, I truly hope I've got it wrong.

Agree.

He needs to look at a kid like Rowell. If Stack applied himself half as much as Rowell seems to he would be fine.

You make it sound like Stack can't go out without f***ing up. He has been home in Perth since Sept. Hasn't been arrested, hasn't made a mess of his life from what any of us know, minor Covid breach aside in that time before his latest indiscretion. He looks in fair shape for someone who is supposedly fat and out of shape. Kid is being judged in some crazy Covid year where self discipline , not his strong suite, has been severely tested. Give him at least a chance to get back to Richmond before you judge him so harshly. The fact that he has been looking after himself since he was a kid means he is not your average kid who works in Safeway and going to school. He has been couch surfing with relatives, friends and coaches since he was a kid. Perhaps he has done really well in life when you consider what he could have been.

Agree.

Let's see how Rowell would have gone if he had Stacks upbringing. Rowell has had every privilege a gifted sports kid could get. Private school scholarships, private coaching, supportive parents and a system designed to take kids like Rowell and Walsh and turn them into discipline machines. A little different to Stack you could say.

Yeah not ignorant to that mate, my upbringing was far closer to Stackys than Rowells so I have sympathy, I'm just saying, I don't think it's beyond stack to apply himself to that level and if he does, he'll go very well.

beat me to it I was going to post the same thing. I want to stack to be stack just the best version of himself

Stack has amazing talent. Don’t think I’ve seen a kid in his first season perform the way he did. IMO easily top 5 talent wise in his draft. Needs to get serious and professional- if he does could be anything.

well said, the moment you voice an opinion you automatically hate a bloke....i dont trust him, his apologies are hollow, i would love him to make it , but im not convinced he will.

in the presser Jack R said quite clearly...Sydney wasn’t given /provided the things most Australian kids take for granted...his circumstances were really different and challenging

I have never been more excited about a kid since
Richo walked into punt road all those years ago
Stacks talent is elite , hasent even peaked yet
Hopefully the stint in jail has given him the reality check he needs.

That's why he's still on the list.
He's a top 5 talent, if he was a spud hed have been cut before new year.

Agree, it's really teasing/frustrating that he cannot get back to Richmond where he will have a chance to right the wrongs and see if he can win back the respect he needs to. But unfortunately, he is at the mercy of the WA justice system, so we all have to wait and see.

People need to remember every stage of Sydney's career from juniors to elite has been a journey of undisciplined behaviour with scant regards to authority.

That's not rumour, it's fact for all to see.

There's no magic pill like get Dusty or Marlion or anyone to take and mentor him. At 21 he's a grown man who's unlikely to change.

If they cut him lose after the court hearing I'll loose no sleep, but like everyone I'd love to see him have a successful elite footy career, but going by his history just can't see it though.

You might have to ask TJTiger, he made the claim, as you put it. He actually said "Personally I believe......", which as we know he is entirely entitled to believe what he wants. He didn't state it as some sort of universal fact, as some are inclined to do (which was my only point).

I do think Stacky is a pretty special sort of player - how special we may never know. Unfulfilled potential is as common as opinions sadly. There was a lot of conjecture he was a first round draft choice but missed due to behaviour and application issues. These are now playing out. But I have always said behavior does not need to define a person's life - just a moment in it! We are as much a creature of habit as change. He is Sydney Stack. I hope we are talking as glowingly about Sydney Stack as we are about Marlion Pickett in the years to follow - only Sydeny decides that, not you, not me not his draft ranking (absence of it)

Yep your right, maybe just Stack cant settle.
Theyre high functioning young professionals now, the days are completely structured, skin folds, nutrition and thats probably why 70% that make it come through the elite pathways.
I read it’s something like 4% of all senior footy make it to the AFL and only about 4-5 of the 100 or so a year make it to 200 games.
Its more than just really professional and really talented you have to have it in you to never give up.
I hope he gets it all together.

Stupid saying really - understand it's intention. Comparing an animal's genetic features to a human's ability to choose - really.............!?

I expected better of you old mate! You in a hurry?;)

look in understand your stance on Stack but to say a 21 year old is a grown man and is unlikely to change is plain and simple incorrect.
most 21 year olds these days are still immature and finding their way into adulthood and what it takes. Heck I’d love to to know how many 21 year old are still living at home (I didn’t leave home until I was 23)
Let’s see how the kid goes when he returns. I willing to give anyone on our list a chance and not ready to cut them loose as the club and it’s resources are way more well equipped to make these decisions then I am.
