Very fair question. It is like now in F1 when the team is seen as dangerously released the driver from the pitbox the team gets a financial fine instead of an automatic drive through penalty which only punishes the driver who did nothing wrong.

This needs to be put into perspective that the parties who have transgressed should be punished and not the rest of them. If Stack and CCJ snuck out or lied to leave the hub then the players should be punished and not the club? Imagine the uproar if a club went crazy and locked the players down harshly.

I think the penalty was a tad harsh, probably should have been given 6 weeks and the fine.

I think the media/public pressure pushed the penalty up.

I think the AFL just wanted to make an example of them, hoping that no other club breaks the rules again.
