I agree, I understand the club is furious, but honestly I think it was unprofessional of Gale to publicly announce that the players would pay before that's been confirmed, and I regard him very highly. The players association have come out and said they can't be forced to pay unless they volunteer, and the manager has said he shouldn't pay so it's pretty clear he won't. And frankly if I were stack I wouldn't, he's in his second year on a pretty low salary (after rookie wages last year), and after his fiasco there's no guarantee he'll get another contract, in which case 37.5k is enormous.

It's a terrible situation and the players are obviously at fault, but a messy public dispute about money is the absolute last thing we need and would completely destroy any future prospects with the players, not to mention the personal toll it would take on them. Should all be happening behind closed doors
If they were WCE players, I would expect them to pay regardless of what they earn. To me the fight was irrelevant as it looked like they had no option but to defend themselves from what looked like an unprovoked attack but they simply shouldn't have been there. They would have had the rules drummed into them so have no excuse. Stupidity is stupidity regardless of what one earns.

Let's see if they have any projected earnings from which to garnish first. The Debt, as you call it, is not theirs. It is the Club's. What contribution may be made is yet to be ratified it would seem from what has been said so far.

Actually, the club could take civil action against them for damages arguably.

comes down to whats responsible and the pub tests.

RFC could just tear their contracts up and throw them on the street , so a fine is light.

If the players want to redeem themselves and become champions earning the rewards and spoils let them do it and who is stopping them??

No one is entitled to trash the club and teammates they are playing for and with!!

If they deserve this and that let them prove it and earn it through their efforts forward and towards 2021 and during 2021 and beyond!

aflw needs to go so we can keep our vfl team

priorities

Imagine the outcry of getting rid of the AFLW team before getting rid of the VFL program.

This already after getting rid of the VFLW program last week.

Current controversies would pale in comparison to Richmond axing their womens program to preserve their mens ressies.

He means it's not rubbish talk from Caro saying that our VFL team is gone.

$100k tips us over the edge re the VFL team? I'm calling bullshit. Things must be more serious than an extra $100k.

On principle I agree - you do the crime you pay the fine, however we do have to take into account the circumstances as ultimately the club's interest comes over what's fair, so what will be the effect of a drawn out public battle over who pays? what will be the impact on the players seeing their mates (who did **** up but even still) potentially going into debt paying off this massive fine? Just saying I don't think it's as simple as what's fair or not

I think Gale was very keen to placate their membership base, who are paying their membership without attending games. He wanted them to know that their money wasn't covering the cost for poor decisions made by players.

I think he may have inadvertently picked a fight without knowing it, and now quite possibly regrets being so definitive in his public comments about who would be paying the fine.

If Stack had any balls he would stay at the club and prove to Dimma that he can make it up to him and his team mates.
As far as the fine goes he can pay it off in instalments over his next contract.

But he needs to man up, own it, move on, show loyalty and grit.

There is a little thing called Capacity to Pay. I'm not saying that it determines everything but it comes into the discussion - and will!
I'm sure it will, and I'm equally sure that the players won't pay but my view is that they should. If clubs are going to be held responsible for their player's transgressions (and there is talk of penalties such as loss of premiership points for another transgression), maybe they should demand their players wear trackers. ;)

Without a doubt a fight is brewing.

Not good for this to be played out in public.

Best case scenario would be for conversations behind the scenes to happen and RFC pay the bill. Would allow the club and everyone to save face, sweep it under the carpet and kill the story.

75K is not worth this story growing legs and dragging on for days and days.
