I have no doubt that may be so. He seems a bit of a unique type of character, maybe a bit like Martin in some respects, growing up earlier than most have to, used to doing things their way, and being young of course the decisions you make are not always the best. He certainly is not from the driven from an early age to play AFL football whether from parents or coaches, [PLAYERCARD]Sam Walsh[/PLAYERCARD] and [PLAYERCARD]Bailey Smith[/PLAYERCARD] types, or any father son players. But football clubs have a way of straightening out those kinks, Richmond especially. I have heard things about the character of a few other young player when they first got to the club, from good sources to, but now they are entrenched in the side.

No, I agree. I just think it's interesting that they don't.

I don't know, but I assume Stack is maybe more immature and rates himself, and I think that would be offputting.

I don't ride with the theory of '2nd year blues' If a player has talent then he doesn't lose it. Granted he is very young and may have had a bit of difficulty handling the 'star' status of being an AFL player. Still doesn't explain why he was getting caught in tackles and not finding space like he did in his 1st year.

I think that there's probably a couple of things at play here. His first handful of games he played off half back where it is much easier to read the play coming in and participate in the possession chains coming out. His courage in standing under the ball, finding space and bringing in other players was exemplary, his disposal efficiency was off the charts for someone so new to AFL.

He was then moved to the forward line probably as a 'let's see how he goes' trial. Again he proved himself to be above average. Maybe oppo coaches realised that he could be damaging and put a lot more effort into nullifying him. Young bloke has found it much more difficult with the extra attention added to playing in a more difficult position.

Obviously up to the coaches but he needs to get to HB and use those skills that made him such a stand out in his first year.

Improvement is not always linear. And it's not always an upward trajectory.
A player regressing in their second/third/fourth/eighth year is not uncommon, just like any player at any stage of their careers, some years are better than others. With only 2 seasons, it's a small sample size so the regressing year is quite obvious when it follows the only other good year.

Perhaps he didn't work as hard as he could have, perhaps his role/ club expectations changed and he still needs time to develop in this new role, perhaps the positional changes didn't suit him, perhaps the COVID season didn't agree with him, remember Tom Lynch also didn't perform as well in 2020 as he did in 2019, nor did [PLAYERCARD]Kane Lambert[/PLAYERCARD], but no one bats an eyelid. I'm fully expecting them to improve in 2021 as I am Stack.

There's 101 potential reasons and these apply to all players who have a year not as good as the previous. You follow the wave and cycle and hope that over 3-5 years Stack's trajectory is upward, but that doesn't mean a better season year on year for the rest of his career.

Na **** that. No earrings or man buns in this house hold. Unfortunately or fortunatly for the young fella he wont get much of a say on the man bun one. Balder than 2020 GAJ and it runs in the family 🤣

I don't think either SS or CCJ were going to be playing in our finals side, so no harm done.

I'm sure the club and their managers have pointed out that there is a spot available for both players in 2021. Stack can displace Broad or Baker in the short term and Houli in the long term. With Markov leaving, he has to be the next guy in. He just has to play great footy and make it impossible to leave him out. CCJ should walk in to the second ruck spot.
