If this isn’t a wake up call for stack nothing will be. Although we don’t even know if he will still be sacked when he gets out. Hopefully he gets back to punt rd and trains his ass off.

The same penalty applies to everyone, he would have been aware of the provisions if he failed to comply (like all travel applications its on the form you complete).

Why is Western Australia performing better at control of COVID that other states (NSW, SA & VIC)?
But why are some fined and some jailed. Stack came when Vic hand SA had no Covid, so although technically a breach (3 days later the border with SA was opened and no quarantine was required), so was not a serious risk, unlike others who have received a fine only.

To the best of my knowledge no-one has disagreed that Sydney f’ed up and therefore they including myself have accepted that. The issue is the penalty he has been dealt is over the top .
Revoke his special exemption , extradite him and ban him from the state for how ever long they want if need be .
People have been found breaching COVID laws relating to isolating , in many other states and not faced immediate time in the slammer .
At the heist of the 1st and 2nd waves in Victoria multiple people who were positive cases or close contacts were found to be breaching isolation laws and given a fine .
It’s ridiculous and completely out of touch .

They would've had to put him on a plane at an airport and put others at risk. No, remaining in jail was the best place for him to serve his quarantine. Nothing against Syd (he's my avatar FFS) and I'd have this opinion regardless of who it was.

As a Richmond supporter I feel personally let down by his behaviour, but if the club sees fit to give him another chance, I can get behind him one more time.

WA had not opened its borders to South Australia and now has mandatory isolation for anyone from Victoria since 21 December.

The same provision don’t apply to everyone , under the rules posted prior , a on the spot fine of $1000 MAY be imposed , or up to $100k or 12 months in jail .
The rules permit for him to have simply been warned .

That’s how ridiculous this is , if the same flight had of been a direct flight from
Melbourne he would not have been required to isolate .
In saying that he knew the rules and breached them and rightfully should face a penalty befitting of the mis-demeanour .

These may be some reasons why he was not issued a fine.
  • He is not a resident of WA
  • He has previously broken COVID protocols in Queensland
  • His was staying at a different residence to what was declared on his application
  • He was involved in a fight at Northbridge
This is a biosecurity breach that could put some peoples lives at risk, it is not some drunk and disorderly charge.

by the time his case is resolved in court his sentence might be less than the time served

good to hear RFC has supplied plenty of support

bring on the preseason proper so we have internal practice matches to distract us from this and other off field stuff

I know, SA/WA border opened 3 days later. When Stack travelled there was no quarantine from Victoria to WA. I get that he was in breach of restrictions, but by a stop over in Adelaide airport which opened up shortly afterwards. Minor breach wouldn't you say.

stack spent 2.5 hours wandering around in an airport, bar, newsagents, hungry jacks, toilet etc in an airport that was classified as "medium" threat at the time requiring a 2g2 pass to enter WA.

He "signed off" on the exemption fully understanding the conditions of entry.

Why the extension? I know we're all getting fired up, but this is going from silly to f'ing ridiculous. People get $1000 fines for what he did, not a month in jail.

It was his second breach. He had already been issued with a warning from the WA government. Also signed his name to a permit and then deliberately broke the terms. Stop trying to defend this bloke. He is aserial offender. WA has the lowest infection rate for a reason. They are hard on offenders. The WA government is correct at throwing the book at him. A pity Vic government hadn't done the same. We'd have had a lot less deaths. Stop ragging on WA government for doing a good job.

How do you lose resident status of state in which you were born (WA) ? Stayed at Hardwicks 2019 no official rental contract. No drivers licence? 2020; 6 months renting in Melbourne, 3 months hub in Qld. 3 ~ 4 months b/n hub, Victoria & WA.

I get that it was his second breach, I am not trying to defend his actions, just that potentially months in jail for minor breaches (in WA) is very heavy handed.

500 people from the northern suburbs of Sydney just attended a wedding and no fines other than the wedding company. There are 10,000 people going to the cricket today. It's absurd that a short stop-over in an airport can land you jail time in comparison.

SA have one minor breakout since the first outbreak and they have not gone down the WA path. You might have just missed the footy season that just happened in Queensland, and they have not gone down the WA path. Not sure WA are the best example.

The reason WA has a low infection rate is the fact it’s on the West Coast and has minimal international travel .
IIRC Melbourne and Sydney each have over twice as many incoming international flights than any other city and the percentage increased during COVID .

Get rid of state go ts , have one law for all Australia , thus would also reduce the burden on the taxpayer, get rid of some snouts in the trough

A head of state like say for instance Trump might be needed to bring the country together.
He would be ideal

His home address on the permit was northam, the place he ran from, obviously the police didnt trust him to return

just to set ppl minds at ease, i heard Mike Amor (7 news) explicitly said RICHMOND lawyers will apply bail for Stack this Fri..can't find a twitter clip sorry.

EDIT: think both Sun/Age saying bail on Fri (all seem to agree on that) but i definitely heard Mike Amor mentioning Richmond lawyers.
ah got it...
Shock horror.... I WAS WRONG (no, it's not that hard to admit that you're wrong).

Mike didn't say Richmond lawyers...he's a Tigers man so he said Tigers' lawyers:

So how do you feel about your local Divisional Councillor administering all your health, education, roads, rail, etc etc.... Not going to happen, even less now that we've experienced the state by state protections. Geez Qld has enough of a problem with those rednecks from North Qld wanting to separate and self-govern, it's not going to go the other way............... :D
