The biggest thing with the current Stack situation is that he is stuck in WA. He did a couple of stupid things, but nothing too dramatic. Because WA just hates people he's stuck there. Accept it for what it is, and unfortunate delay in him getting back to the RFC. We know nothing of his training etc. All the speculation is just a story 'full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.'

we'll know soon enough. Right now we don't know anything much, except Sydney is a love sick puppy - again.

In the running for a top 10 finish in most stupid posts I've ever read on this site.

The fact that he was sent to the big house is because WA cares for its residents and doesn't want them dying unnecessarily due to silly and/or selfish people

IMO WA's reaction to Stack's crime has been wildly over the top. The WA govt isn't known for being a loving caring bunch. I'm just reflecting my aggravation at a minor offence = potentially screwing his life.

I have lost 3 relatives to covid (overseas) 51 year old cousin , 68 year old 2nd cousin and 73 year old uncle
Its a bloody hard way to go, the amount of people that have caught the thing is just crazy.

She was charged with three counts of failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act and was refused bail ahead of her court appearance.

Ms Jackson later faced Perth Magistrates Court where she was remanded in custody until her next appearance on February 22.

She was coming from Victoria where the UK strain is and will serve less time and not over Christmas.
Plus she doesn't have mental health issues so it's not a good comparison.

You may consider it successful largely due to this system, but we have had a footy season run through the peak of the Covid outbreak in Qld, we have had a cricket season run across the country with no outbreaks, no other state has felt the need to use the harsh measures that the WA system has put in place. It is excessively punitive.

Stack is not harshly dealt with in you eyes, but in the context of what has happened all over the country in regard to Covid breaches, he has been, very harshly dealt with. That is a fact, it is not all soft and mushy. His breach, or the chance of spreading the virus almost zero on the scale of Covid breaching. You have to take this into account a bit.

You constantly revert back to a small handful of breachers who are likewise being punished, some of those breaches have been far more serious than Stack's. One glove fits all approach is not normally considered appropriate in legal matters, but in this case you think it is. A bit like the 3 strikes policy that has seen indigenous people incarcerated in WA at alarming rates. It is not good law and has been slammed by human rights groups all over the country and internationally.

My sincere sadness about your loss - that's tough, and you remind us we are by and large very fortunate here in Australia.

Still, I consider that the events surrounding Sydney Stack represent something like cracking a peanut with a sledgehammer - probably more appropriate an analogy than we realise. The errors made by Sydney, as far as we know, were on the very fringes of wrongdoing, and yet he had to spend so much time in jail in a system that may well have been systematically correct, but logically flawed and dehumanising. I am not surprised if he has some mental health issues as a consequence. The domino effects in life can be enormous sometimes, and we are seeing this play out before our very eyes. If only there had been a direct flight to WA that day for him, all of this discussion would likely be meaningless. Odd really!
