Out: Buddy, Hickey, 1x tired kid (not McDonald)
In: Sinclair, McLean, Rowbottom

If McLean had been rucking in reserves I'd say don't bother with Sinclair and play Blakey up forward. If we decide to rest anyone else, Stephens or COR to come in.

The calls to drop Hewett are hilarious. Play him in the mids or half forward. Do not drop him.

Campbell will likely be the one to make way for Rowbottom. Since his debut, his TOG has reduced every week: 79% in round 2, 70% in round 3, 66% in round 4, and 62% in round 5.

How about no. Let’s not take our best kick of the ball out of the side

Our forward set-up is more dangerous without Buddy.

Defenses will find it far harder to read our F50 entries.

Buddy's injury doesn't upset me (unlike Hickey, which is a real setback).

100% agree. We will miss Hickey a lot more imo

Didn’t at all. You want to drop our best kick. I don’t period. Drop someone else simple.

I think his TOG% suggests a player who is being managed pretty carefully. The logical next step is for him to be rested. This shouldn't be a surprise. Quite a few of us weren't even expecting him to be ready for senior footy by round 1. He's now played five matches and shown plenty of promise. Exceeded expectations thus far, but no shame in him needing a spell.

O'Riordan

Blakey, McInerney, Mcdonald, Wicks, Papley, Kennedy, Warner, Hewett & Florent were all poor. Kennedy averages 29 disposals/game. He managed 19. He was the best of this bunch with Florent next on 15. Those figures are extremely poor for mids. The forwards I can understand to a certain extent. The delivery was a disgrace and difficult for them. But we rarely got it in there anyway.

Stephens to come into the starting line up. O'Riordan maybe replaces Hewett. He was good jn the reserves apparently. Blakey, Hewett and rest Mcdonald. Blakey once again failed to chase on so many occasions. Hewett is obviously not a back. He is a mid. Play him there for *'s sake. He would have been better than Kennedy, Warner or Florent on the weekend.

I do not give a shite how many clearances Joey is credited with. How many were to advantage? Change is a good thing. Think that way. Why are we giving Joey another 1 year contract. We should be moving on. Developing the midfield that wins the next premiership. He is old news and it is showing. Very ordinary disposal. Makes shite decisions too often, the handball to a player covered is the worst other than his long bomb to the opposition. He can be a match winner still but he is slow and it is obvious. He is being slaughtered by young, fast mids who shrug him off, then burn him off. I have always been a Joey fan. Highly respected his GF and father as footballers and he was even classier. But time has caught up pace wise.

so ... three, maybe four unforced changes (if you include this demand for kennedy to be dropped and then escorted from the building)? ... absolutely ridiculous ... cohesion and confidence comes with a little faith in the players to learn and improve, not get dumped ... of all the unhinged panic and frenzied wailing since the giants loss, this is the worst ...
i'll say it again ... one kick, one loss ...

JPK could still likely outpace Sam Mitchell or Jordan Lewis in their prime.

Don’t think people realise how much we’d struggle without his grunt at stoppages.

Since our last grand final we have a 48% win/loss record with JPK, and a 56% record without him.

We realise his strengths, we just recognise he is not the be all that ends all anymore.

and that's a ridiculous statistic taken out of context ... the side has declined considerably over that period, as some of our best players of the era retired or left the club ... there's no argument he's getting older and slower, but are you (and others) seriously saying he should not be in the side?!

What's your point? Yes the side is weaker yet we've still managed to win games without him.

I am not saying he shouldn't be in the side. I think there are others who should be getting his midfield minutes though.

I think Hewett's role maybe the Stopper(the Cooler). He negates the best forward in the inside 50. He smothers them.
Mills would not be able to smother a Dusty. Hewett can.
Is this a new position invented by Horse or Pyke? The leave the Dusty or other danger player alone down the field and when they get near the inside 50, Hewett smothers them. Is this a new role in this new man on the mark, restricted zone era, where Hewett has created a new position.

Hewett is very good at it, but I wouldn't say it's a new idea. Nick Smith was negating the best forward inside 50 for a decade.

It's also worth considering the negative side of Hewett doing it, which is that he doesn't appear to have a lot of composure in the defensive 50 and has become an exponent of the hack kick out of the back-line.

He could be negating the best midfielder at centre bounces and have the same effect. Or better still, released as a pure ball-winner where he would automatically become our cleanest mid.

But But the ball is coming in quicker and with less resistance due to the new rules. Is now the focus on the inside 50 entries, because that is now the contested focal point because of the new rules? I'm just postulating. Is this new?

I don't think it's new tbh. I think the only reason we're playing Hewett in that role is because they want him in the team but he has been edged out of the midfield with the addition of Mills, as well as more time in there for Florent, Rowbottom and Warner.

Not gonna beat around the bush I think it's just a s**t call by Horse & co. He has been made the scapegoat for the lack of performance by others with the better names.

OK. I'm trying to rationalize why Hewey is back. He did a great job on Dusty and is tier one as a stopper.
I don't understand our tall defence with McCartin as a tall and Melican (finally) and not much else. Dawson was a tall and that does not make any sense. I understand they want great kicks out of defence with Campbell and Dawson. Training Campbell behind the ball with game awareness and possessions makes sense.
Lloyd taking kick ins makes no sense. Both Campbell and Dawson can kick 30-50% further. Why?

But we are 4 and 1 and I'm not complaining.:D
