Paton sub makes no sense at all tho
Why? Given the named 23.

Can play small/med lockdown or half back. There's several in defence who can move up the ground, if it's not one of those 6 or 7 subbed off.

I don't want him or Blakey acting as KPDs so Hamling back makes more sense and then it makes more sense to play Sheldrick than Paton for most of the game (allowing Heeney and Chad to go forward a bit more).

Do we see Sydney go with a 2 tall forward line or back line?

Cause could Hamling shift back into defence and play the same role as Melican was playing and then just play Paton as sub or is Gus just sub again with Hamling staying forward?

I reckon the Bombers are the team I hate playing the most. Just far, far too many close games over the years. When you look at the history of games between us, since the draw in 1996 there has been 22 games decided by 14 points or less. F that

Results of a rivalry game but they are not a rival at all

I get that. It's just that they always seem to give us a decent run for our money - and I don't like it. Feels like it takes 5 years off my life after watching a close game vs them

Seems to me we are one tall down.
If Hamling goes back, we end up with the 2 tall fwds which, as we saw earlier in the season, creates problems when McLean goes into the ruck.
If Hamling stays fwd, Essendon have a fairly handy marking tall fwd line which potentially means we end up repeating the Blakey KPD error from earlier in he season.

It would have made much more sense to me to bring Ladhams in and Hamling to defence, particularly as Pistol has been in relatively good form.

Fast deck at Marvel. Play the smaller blokes and go with the 2 talls up forward. Hoping Paton is sub also. Will still give a lot of options later in the game and Hamling will be required down back in coming weeks.

Don't want to put a moz on it, but there's a blonde haired guy that is a gun midfielder that might just kick 5 tomorrow.

Except that he seems to have almost entirely forgotten how to kick.
His first 3 kicks last week were just mind boggling. My jaw dropped at the (I think) 3rd one that only just scraped his leg. I'm not sure how he can do it.
Probably just shows how much of a player he needs consistency of training and playing and his foot skills can go from really good to under 10s.

I suspect Gus might only kick 4.

But I do admire your optimism.

exactly this - structure is key, and we had the right one against GWS and it worked. Surprises me that we would move away from that.

They are going to have 3 KPD in McKay, Reid and Hayes - if we bomb away like we do, someone is going to clean up.

I think the red vs blue training guernseys indicate the starting 18 vs the five on the bench (including the sub.) That's been pretty consistent every week this year so far.

If that is the case - and I think it has been every week so far - then Paton (wearing red in the above) will start on the field, which would suggest there's no option for sub other than Sheldrick.

Sad but likely true.

Interestingly enough, however, Errol is in red. Rumour is that he simply refused to wear blue.

Last year's 3-0 run while I was away certainly didn't repeat this year, but hopefully the win over the Giants is the turning point and we kick on from here. Happy to be watching on a TV again...

I was ridiculed in the injury thread a while back for suggesting we could still go on a winning run despite our injury list*, and while I didn't foresee our skills completely abandoning us recently, our history suggests this is something we can very much do. Bombers, Blues, Dees, Crows, Tigers before the bye isn't the worst run.

*I may have suggested we "could" (not "would") be 8-4 or even 9-3 at the 12 game mark when we were 0-2 or 1-2... which wasn't unreasonable with our track record, but obviously that didn't happen!

Cheers, I did. Yeah, people seem to forget we've turned seasons around before even when things have looked bleak. Now, this year we've flubbed a few opportunities already to turn it around through some shocking skills displays (with plenty of talent still on the park), but it's not too late.

Maybe this is the year where we are not in a rebuilding phase and we still don't right the ship, but history suggests we can and usually do to at least make finals.
