Sydney v Richmond

I know Round 2, like, JUST finished, but does anyone know if the Round 3 Swans v Tigers, to be played in Riverina, NSW, is going to be covered by radio at all?

guys you are very lucky that you had any radio coverage for this game. If it was any other team apart from port Adelaide you would get nothing at all. not having a crack at yas but be thankful that you got to listen to it at all :thumbsu:

better players sydney.....thats unusual they only said port players?

goddam the bloody pro adaliade commentators

I disgree. I thought the commentators were great. Very fair to both teams. They started talking about Port's future prospects as the game was winding down, which is understandable. Port fans listening would have been bummed, if there were any still tuned in by that time.

Maybe I'm just comparing it to the woefully biased coverage every Melbourne commentator has, whenever a Vic team is playing an interstate one. Worst commentators in the world, any code.

Right you are, though i dont know that if its just an SA thing. I reckon every other state team would have coverd it, (maybe Brisbane i dont know). Its dissapointing we didnt get it on NSW air,and having to listen to bias commentry regardless of who it is, is always annoying..

I'm staggered to discover that the radio call was pro-SA, seeing as they were the only radio station in the whole country who bothered to go over and broadcast the game for an SA audience

He took an uncontested mark on the wing. When he came down he seemed to hyper extend his knee. The grass seemed to grab his stops a but then he seemed to slip. Looked bad.
yeah it seemed so simple, but the way he had to be taken off the field made it look like it could be a bit serious.

struggled to get to his feet and had to wait on the trainers getting to him so he could get off the field. couldnt put any pressure on it. might be a season ending injury.

have to say the 3rd tier of swans players were highly impressive. seems like we have some great depth heading into 2008 in the fact that there are some good quality youngsters that could take the next step and push for consistant selection in the 1st team.

goodes was absolutely outstanding tonight. the guy is just a freak.

Who went? I know Liz probably went, but anyone up to provide the PRO's and CON's, and what we can take out of the match?

PROS: our youngsters seemed up for it. gave it there all. our rebounding from defense was superb. our skill level for this time of season seems beyond previous seasons. used the ball well and used the corridor a lot more often than normal.

CONS: another season ending injury it seems to thornton. slackened off in the 3rd quarter and our kicking for goal wasn't the best.

I think it's actually quite amazing 5AA sent 3 commentators for a practice match?! Not sure how they justify that cost.
Their justification is that fans want to listen to the call. I admit that I bag 5AA jokingly from time to time for their biased calls, but they go out of their way to call Crows and Port games regardless of time or place.

Great updates guys. Hall is back! He will bounce back this year contrary to many people's opinions.

Can anyone tell me how Bird and Mattner played. Any idea of disposals for either player. Did 5aa go throught the stats?

Some observations...

Very scrappy match. Looked like they were playing with a bar of soap. Some of the dropped ball was hole-in-the-ground stuff.

Goodes made his fair share of fumbles but looked exceptionally classy cleaning up his own mess. Which he mostly did. Missed some toughish shots for goal but would be good if he could learn to nail those.

Hall looked very very sharp. Took some good marks in traffic. Didn't seem to wander too far from the goal square but looks like his second eye operation might have worked.

Grundy and White both spent some time up forward, presented well. Both kicked a goal (well, Grundy two, but one was from a softish free right in front).

Ablett very good. Jude good early. Moore's work rate very impressive. Mattner didn't seem to spend much time on the ground but was one of the better players when he did. His kicking isn't the spear-like passes we've come to love from YKW but it is still pretty damn fine.

Jolly looked a bit rusty but probably had the better of the ruck contests. Maybe rucked for half the game or so. LRT very good in first half. Not sure if he played much (or any) of the second half.

Bruce did some impressive things, looked a bit more composed than last week. O'Dwyer popped up a bit late in the game to good effect. Jack showed lots of dash but lacked a bit of composure at times.

Thorton was looking very very good til he went down - probably the pick of the youngsters. On that form I think he'd have been well in the mix to play senior footy this year. Oh well...

Bird showed again that he has time that others don't. Didn't think he was quite as prominent as last week but still did some excellent work. Will be wasted in Canberra.

I wouldn't get too carried away with the scoreline though. Most of the Port players looked like they really couldn't give a damn about being in Sydney. Their intensity was very ordinary. Even though it's just a practice game, they deserve a solid bake for their efforts this evening.

I like the dedication Liz :p
Come home, log on and post away :D

Nice run down, someone (bloods01?) mentioned they used the corridor a lot more often, did you see any of that happening?

How many people actually turned up?

Hi Guys,

Went to the game and I can tell you the positives far, FAR outweigh the negatives.
Goodes was sensational! Played the whole game, (he, Jude and Mattews were the only seniors that did I think) and looked like he is continuing were he left off last year.
Bazza is back! Looked alot more like the 06 version then the 07 one, moved well, took some good marks and kicked well also.
Marty Mattner I think will turn out to be the get of the off season. Nicky Mals injury was a tragedy, but the impact will be lessened so much by his arrival.
Craig Bird has got to play from round 1. He didn't seem to be as involved as last week but when he was, he was great. Took a superb mark to kick for goal but unfortunately stuffed the kick.
Jesse White I just lurvvvve this kid. He also didn't seem to be as involved as last week but I just love the way he goes about his business. His ruck work is good and while he gives away a bit in height, he has a vertical leap that could reach the stars.
Jarred Moore was fantastic. He has an awareness that so many others in our team don't have and for any Bevan sympathizers who say he's tough and he's this or that, watch this kid play - he's tough AND knows how to play AND can kick the ball.
Jack impressed, O'Dwyer was pretty good as was Bruce. Of the seniors, Jude, Ablett and Lewie were good, even McVague did some half decent stuff. Good to see that even in a practice match, Kirky ends up with his head bandaged! Benny Mathews has to go. We have too many keen and eager youngsters that should be given a go, he is a waste of space, looked oh so slow and out of touch.
A real tragedy about Thornton. He took a mark and seemed to turn his knee and that was it- gooooooooone. He (understandably) looked very dejected after it happened as he was playing some good footy and one would think was a chance at some stage for senior selection. I don't know what he has actually done but they are saying it is season ending.
All in all, it was a great hit out albeit against not much opposition. Port seemed disinterested and very sloppy and I think Choc will be ramping up the training drills after that.

Everyone went!

Not fair. Did many people turn up, or the usual dribble of fans?
