To put a sour note on the win it looks like Thornton will be out for the year also with a serious knee injury. It's not confirmed as yet. Shocking news once again. He showed a bit last week and would have been a certainty for games in '08. Buchanan also went off with a jarred knee but he should be right.

This means that we will be able to elevate two rookies onto the senior list with the long term injuries to Malceski and Thornton. O'Dwyer has to be one of them. What are your thoughts on the other one?

Did Kennelly play yesterday?

Where's he at recovery wise?

Most are saying Mattner would be the replacement for Maceski ... wouldn't Kennelly be the preferred option to play than run out of the back line roll?

can someone please give me an update on how Ed Barlow went?
Still not as dominant as he should be, but much better than last week.

Kennelly did not play yesterday but, straight from the horses mouth, in the best condition of his career. We were missing the two pronged run out of defence last year with Kennellys injury so that is why we are looking to Mattner as Malceskis replacement.

Also with roberts thomson back in defence we can use leo barry as a third or forth tall and allow him to run the ground more often i think we missed that last year

Yeah spot on. The people calling for Leo to be dropped have no idea. The bloke has done very well holding the 1st or 2nd best defender, often giving away both height and weight. He is best used as a rebounding defender and will benefit greatly from LRT's return.

I really like Leo Barry but i wish he would stop trying to take on his direct opponent as it almost never works and he almost always ends up giving the opposition a simple goal.

For sure, when you think about it on paper were in alot better position than last year as far as a back six goes, even with Malceski out.

Id have as a roughy, Kennely- LRT- Mattner
Richards- Bolton- Barry

With Laidlaw,Crouch,Bevan,Barlow,Brennan pressing for selection.
Great depth..

I wouldn't say it almost never works, in fact I reckon it still works 90% of the time however as you have said giving the opposition a simple goal (even 10% of the time) isn't good.

He carried an injury most of last season and I think this may have robbed him of a touch of pace but if he regains full fitness this season I've got no problem with him taking on the opposition and making them look like clowns circa 2005.

Maybe I'm just comparing it to the woefully biased coverage every Melbourne commentator has, whenever a Vic team is playing an interstate one. Worst commentators in the world, any code.

Absolute crap, RnWtilIDie. Listen to the ABC for God's sake. No-one takes any of the others seriously.

It's not crap. I was thinking more of TV commentators, and most are terrible. Grybas was the best by far.

ABC are good, I'll give you that.
abc radio callers in adelaide (peter welch and roger wills, i think) are shockers, abc brisbane next worst
as far as abc callers go, i mean
but rex hunt is the most unlistenable caller of all, an ignorant boofhead who seems to think it's simply not important to bother getting players' names right if they're not from victorian clubs, or are in any way not among the top echelon of players
he is addicted to his own voice and his stupid, unfunny jokes and nicknames
he actually makes it not worthwhile to listen to him, even if there is NO other coverage of a particular game
a loathsome dinosaur who is possibly the only person in footy media who makes sam newman seem interesting and sensible

sen is good with the right callers, not doran, schwartz or leach
Absolutly correct.

Brayshaw is great at calling games on triple M, just as long as North arn't playing. It would be Ideal to watch the game LIVE and listen to JB call it.
Also pair him up with Billy Brownless.

Watching the game and listening two those to (funny) clowns. :thumbsu:

Only other wish would be the cheese and kisses to keep bringing me beers......! not going to happen thou.:D
