NSW Sydney- What went wrong?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

That's standard anywhere (including Victoria, last time I checked).

As someone who's lived in both places, this is assuredly not the case. I love Melbourne, but in terms of weather/climate Sydney leaves it for dead - far more temperate in summer and winter.

Sydney is more temperate the closer you get to the coast, as is Melbourne.

Melbourne citiy's weather is very similar to Penrith's whilst Frankston is usually 3-5 degrees cooler than Melbourne in summer and warmer in winter.

as someone who's lived in both I rate Sydneys weather better for a 8-12 week period around Jul-Aug.

Melbourne Public Transport: Daily Fullfare Zone 1+2 - $10.60

Airport Bus is extra, public transport to the airport is the missing piece of the puzzle.

Hopefully the new operators will start to get the system working better.

I believe the imbecile who is President of Hawthorn allowed the Citylink contract to include a clause preventing an airport rail link for a certain period of time.

That would be the same idiot who sold everything off just to make the states debt situation look good in the short term?

****, if you leftie idiots don't think Jeff left Melbourne in a much better way than the broke rundown shithole he took over, then there is no point bragging about how much better Melbourne is than Sydney or these inane "livability" indexes.

The problem with Sydney is that too many people want live there and the cultural, geographical and economic disparity of the city is growing at an all too fast rate.

The whole time there anytime time we said we were from Victoria we got the NSW v Vic thing thrown in our face, in the end all I could do was laugh and point out what was wrong with Sydney, at one stage I went on for 5 minutes before my girlfriend told me to shut up.

have to disagree there - melbournian's seem far more defensive in the NSW v Vic debate. Just about everything seems to be drawn back to compare with Sydney.

I thought it was just me, because you're never going to notice these things living in another city... but i've made loads of backpacker friends down here and they all same the same thing how much melbourne people compare the city to sydney.

the irony of it is that melbourne doesn't need to compare itself to sydney. the only thing sydney has over melbourne is better weather and good beaches. (and a better skyline, but let's face it, once you've seen it... you've seen it)... melbourne has better sport occasions, a far better music scene, better pubs, more relaxed nightlife, lower crime rate (anectodal from my own experience of what i've witnessed whilst out and about. could be wrong. but i doubt it) - basically melbourne is a much more fun city which at the end of the day is what is comes down too....

The weather is shithouse, it rains more than Melbourne

amazingly it actually does rain more, but in the 9-months i've been down here i've missed the much more constant weather of sydney. melbourne's weather is hormonal - no idea what's coming.

i'd also hazard a guess and say sydney has a lot more rainfall during the hours of 10pm and 6am which is why there is more rain in sydney. could be wrong, but it wouldn't suprise me. seem to have a lot more days where i'm stuck inside in melbs than i did in sydney....

everything cost 10% more than anywhere else.

agreed - sydney is expensive, although elsewhere (not just melbourne, but brisbane as well) not far behind. I don't know why but before i moved down i thought i'd be going to some place where i'd find beer and food half priced. obviously never going to be the case but was just some mind set i had.

It's the rudest city in Australia, it's the dirtiest.

rudest - yeah i'd agree. by a long way too, which is one of the main reasons i got sick of the city.

dirtiest - don't know. all the big cities are pretty dirty except adelaide. nothing wrong with a bit of dirt and grime anyway.

The accessibility of public transport is pretty good in most places (particularly in the east) and I would probably put your difficulties down to unfamiliarity.

public transport in sydney is diabolical. it takes ages to get anywhere, it's expensive ($11 for a daily pass on buses only last time i was there?? compared to $7 for everything in melbourne), bus drivers often don't bother stopping because they are so far behind.

In Melbourne people wait for others to get off first.

definately not the case in melbourne (or sydney for that matter). it's one of my pet hates is people piling onto public transport (or into lifts) before waiting for other people. it's terrible in both cities.

it is a coincidence. But daylight savings is still stupid

what does it actually do for a positive on this country?

perhaps it helps out 3-4 test matches a year with a smaller chance of lack of light.

besides that I cant see any positives.

Um... it's light for an extra hour at night instead of at 4.30-6am when you're sleeping?

That's the most obvious benefit.

my quick insight would be for the NSW government to sell their electricity assets to pay for infrastructure. They should have done this many years ago instead of instituting toll roads.

From memory Carr tried to do it but the Unions blocked him?
From memory Carr tried but didn't push it, while Iemma put his leadership on the line for it (mostly to build the Hills Metro line) and got rolled for pushing he point where it was an ultimatum.

Sydney might be nice if it wasn't for the people. Sydney people would have to be among the world's most vile, arrogant, self absorbed, useless and rude people.

Maybe the city would become livable if the collective population of Sydney got their heads out of their arses.

I primarily deal with people from NSW & Queensland at work, give me the Queenslanders any time.

I always thought Queenslanders were extremely self absorbed in terms of being 'Queenslanders' . Thats the view me and my family obtained while we lived up there for 3 years. To the point where I cannot imagine any other Australian state beating them in that regard.

Yeah, they do seem to think that sunshine alone is the only factor in an enjoyable and fulfilling existence.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story lol

I went to stay with a mate in QLD recently. Not impressed with a 4:50am sunrise coming in the windows. Had to make sure the blinds were closed after that.

That's nothing. Here in summer its bloody broad daylight at frigging 5AM and doesn't get dark until about 11PM.

Of course in winter, its pitch black at 3.45PM.

Do you mean I shouldn't let the truth get in the way or Riggy1 shouldn't let the truth get in the way?
