I want Sylvia to be better than McLean that would pretty much guarantee a premiship

I have this funny feeling that if they really hold Col back and let him get right he could be that September specialist that could help win a flag, so pretty much what im saying is
Brock = Brownlow
Sylvia = Norm Smith
(please do not hold me to this)

If Sylvia was better than McLean then you could pen in a Brownlow for him and a few possible Colemans for the next 50 years. Excellent durability.

CAC must have thought so considering we picked Colin at 3 and Brcok at 5. Time will tell I guess.

Not necessarily. He may have preferred McLean but knew that Sylvia was rated higher by others so it would be a safer option to take him first, knowing he'd still get McLean at 5. McLean wasn't rated all that high. One team apparently had him at 1 but one didn't even have him in top 20. I remember that it was a bit of a surprise that we took him over Tenace.

I remember there being a lot of Melbourne supporters who moaned and bitched that we didn't choose Tenace and that we got some kid who had no scope for improvement. I hope they aren't the same people who attacked CAC for selecting Frawley this year. :rolleyes:

Sylvia has more natural ability to do the freakish things, but McLean is a better leader, works harder, is more consistent, and doesn't love himself as much.
Having said that, if both these boys can get through a full season injury free, it would be a big step towards September success.

P.S.- nobody is better than McLean.

To think Carlton took Andrew Walker at #2.... :eek: ;) :D

*Cue delusional Carlton supporters*

Very True, there is this Carlton supporter on here called 'CattyBossDog' who thinks Walker is better pfftt lol .

Brock has shown more than Andrew to this point no doubt.

But Andrew has shown a hell of alot more than Colin to this point.

Out of the 3 Sylvia is easily the most disappointing at this stage in their careers.

Brock the most impressive.

Sylvia has been injured I wouldn't swap him for Walker.

didn't sylvia play full forward in his under 18's side.if that is the case and him being not big enough for that possi, he might not be any good as a mid because he never played there before

No he was the best midfielder in the comp.

And that's the point of the discussion.

He's not shown anything that special as yet regardless of reasons why.

He might be a superstar in the making, he might be a dud, we just don't know.

He's had a couple of great games if he gets his body right and wants it enough he will be a gun. The guy moved to CHF against the Lions last year after halftime and took over the game. It was spectacular to see a midfielder doing a mini John Brown impersonation.

"If's" are a big part of football potential.

He's into his fourth year in the system and hasn't played a huge amount of football.

That's got to be a worry.

There is no point going on about Sylvia's potential anymore, he has been a disappointment. Injuries are part and parcel of football and hes been no Luke Molan in that regard, hes had the oppurtunities and hasnt delivered enough for a No. 3 pick.

We can only hope he will blossom late like TJ did.

It's a massive worry but what can you do? I'm just hoping that like Travis Johnstone early in his career he can get healthy and knuckle down and realise his potential. I don't rate Walker but he does have the frame and athleticism to possibly become a great player. If he learns more about the game and improves his kicking I'll be more than happy to eat crow. Here's hoping things work out for both players. :thumbsu:
