In their propaganda today’s dictators rely for the most part on repetition, suppression and rationalization — the repetition of catchwords which they wish to be accepted as true, the suppression of facts which they wish to be ignored, the arousal and rationalization of passions which may be used in the interests of the Party or the State. As the art and science of manipulation come to be better understood, the dictators of the future will doubtless learn to combine these techniques with the non-stop distractions which, in the West, are now threatening to drown in a sea of irrelevance the rational propaganda essential to the maintenance of individual liberty and the survival of democratic institutions.

I agree, but you clearly get the feeling that there's rotten things going on inside that *club.

Yeah, spot on.

I got the impression that either Robinson was trying to distance himself and was either:

(i) flat out bullshitting about his involvement;
(ii) wasn't directly involved as he claimed, but had a much better idea of what was going on that he claimed (and was deliberately turning a blind eye at the time); or
(iii) told Darcy a lot more than the lawyers were prepared to allow to go to air, given the whole thing is sub judice.

Probably a little from each column, with my betting money on (ii). BTW my gut feel re: Hird is his whole approach was very much black ops - do whatever you want, however you want, just don't get caught, and make sure it can't be traced back to me. But that's just my reading of the whole thing, will be very interesting to see what ASADA comes out with.

As much as I love sticking the boots into *essendon, that interview with the weapon was very meh. I don't know what assertions made by Robinson about what Hird had reportedly did were illegal? Can someone shed some light for me?

It came across as a whinge to me.
There was certainly a bit of that in there, but I have no doubt that Robinson has been genuinely affected by this, as has his family. Given *hird comments about the investigation effecting people long term I hope he and his staff bear a proportionate level of guilt for sacking Robinson, not contacting him since he was removed from his position and the mental anguish he and his have had to endure as a consequence as they do anger for the pain this is inflicting on those inside the circle.

With interviews like this I tend to look for the middle ground. I don't believe that Robinson was wholly truthful in everything he said as I am sure he wants to paint himself in a good light, but at the same time I don't think he is publicly going to slander someone if he fully intends to sue them. I believe that Robinson was telling the truth about *hirds involvement in the program and his attitudes to the supplement program and those programs of other clubs.

As for nothing really new coming out of this, well that was to be expected. Any juicy stuff would have been held back because of the ASADA investigation, the ACC investigation and the defamation case that Robinson will bring against *essendone. He will not shoot all his bullets in public before the case is brought to the courts.

What he has revealed does need to be looked at in context with previously known information. What this interview did do was provide further fuel to the notions that:

A)*hird is extremely loose with the use of suppliments, both in the team and individual sense, to the point of doing #whateverittakes;

B) the environment at *essendone at the time was set up for something bad to happen due to the unquestioning loyalty all staff and players had for *hird and the freedom and responsibilities he gave Dank and Robinson;

C) *hird is in no way the squeaky clean character that he is portrayed as and in fact has a long history of associating with unsavory types.

Its seems quite clear that these factors are not an ideal situation. The only reason that this has come to light is because Dank sources his products from someone being watched by the ACC (Charters no doubt) which reflects poorly on the AFL's ability to ensure that the players are being cared for properly. Whether or not WADA banned substances were injected into players at the club will come out in time, but the information that we have from multiple sources points to an environment where such activity is quite likely. Given that the coach was injecting himself on site with substances banned by the AFL Anti-Doping code is a shocking reflection on *hird as a person and the suppliments culture at the club.

From what is deemed to be common knowledge and following the threads of information that have been leaked out, given what seems to have gone on at *essendone I will be absolutely flabbergasted if all involved in this program are not given significant bans.

He is so clearly full of shit.

I also enjoyed his whole, and I'm paraphrasing, "Be careful throwing around the word 'cult'. It's not a cult... it's just that he's someone special... he's amazing, we couldn't believe it when we found out he was coming."

Not cultish at all.

someone give this dude a medal :thumbsu:

The confusion that exists on how this issue is to be approached continues to amaze me.

On one hand the argument is the substances were not approved for use, hence under the relevant codes they are banned if not yet approved. Then responses to this proposition mention that as the substances are not performance enhancing or illegal, they haven't done anything wrong. Has been happening for months, and braindead types "Spike" McVeigh usually making the situation worse. Unless i'm mistaken, they are two entirely different matters.

As for Robinson, well, I think he is mostly full of shit. However, somewhere in there would be truths, especially regarding how Essendon behaved. IMO all the personal drama cry-baby stuff would be purely to use for his impending suing of the club to increase his claim.

Either way I hope Hird cops a massive whack, Bombers lose their points for this year (at least), and some lessons are learned. Especially that no, sportsmanship and winning is not about "whatever it takes".

You must have missed the part we found out that Dank had a fridge and a metal cabinet in his office. Darcy really un-covered some major news with this one.

Why oh why would they use this idiot in one of the most important TV interviews channel 7 will ever have???

......
It's a wonder Darcy didn't pounce on this revelation in his usual style:

Darcy: A fridge, eh?
Wepp: Yep, a fridge, and a metal cabinet.
Darcy: What kind?
Wepp: A filing cabinet, I think.
Darcy: No, what kind of fridge?
Wepp: A small one.

Cross to panel of experts...

Bruce: Fascinating stuff, don't you think, Mark?
Spike: I don't think Steven Dank had a fridge in his office, Bruce and even if he did, it's not illegal.
Bruce: Richard Ings, ex-head of ASADA. Richard, what comment would you like to make at this point?
Ings: I cannot believe that I am getting paid for this. Are you sure I'm not dreaming?
Bruce: Fascinating stuff, don't you think, Leigh?
Leigh: I'd like to know what was in the filing cabinet.
Spike: I resent the suggestion that there was anything illegal in the filing cabinet. Hirdy is above reproach. I've even seen him step in a puddle and get his designer shoes wet rather than step on an ant.
Lingy: I can vouch for Hirdy's kindness to all living creatures too, Bruce.
Bruce: Fascinating stuff. And well done on your interview, Darce.
Darcy: I'm a star on the rise, Bruce. Just doing my job.

I was surprised Leigh didn't tell us about how in his day all he had was a couple of hessian sacks hung up between the goal posts.

What ever it takes...except a little jab in the arm, I'm scared of needles!
OK players, form into two lines. Today we're taking *hirdy's special mix of ground up camels' testicles, monkey brains and cobra fangs.

The line on the left is for injections - no waiting. The line on the right is for those of you who prefer it as a powder on 8 weetbix with milk.

So someone just told me that the player(s) that refused to be injected only did so because they don't like needles?

What.
*spike mcidiot was pressed on this and ask what happens when *zaka needs a pain killing injection at half time? *mcidiot went into "you have to ask the player that question - but he is scared of needles and puppy dogs that growl".

It was interesting watching Darcy squirm when this came up. Muttering something about 10 years since he's seen him and how he (Darcy) doesn't like having his food portions weighed. Hi-tech stuff.

Seems that everyone knows the bloke, but just to nod to. The sort of bloke you accidentally bump into on occasions.

Fair enough, Zaka doesn't like needles and puppies. Here are some of the things he does like:

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings ...

*spike should be worrying about his own list of lies tbh, and working on his apology to kyle reimers while he is at it

The only thing spiked mcvitamins opened up was a window into the vacuous expanse that is his brain cavity. Seriously, an idea would get lonely in there.
