I said it earlier, but the stars look like the team to beat

for me it's the Renegades. Great overseas signings, great opening batsmen and bowlers. probably a bit weak in the middle order though

mock teams

1. hodge
2. finch
3. hill
4. mcdonald
5. maxwell
6. carters (+)
7. razzaq
8. afridi
9. harwood
10 nannes
11. tait

v

1. wade (+)
2. ??? (simpson? overseas signing? voges maybe? i think wright has done some)
3. dussey
4. bailey
5. white
6. quiney
7. wright
8. faukner
9. mckay
10. warne
11. pattinson
(hastings out for the season; siddle 50/50 given his test spot is 50/50)

i think the uncertainty over that opening spot gives it to the renegades. of course that could change with the overseas card. dussey/warne will be a good spin combo as will mckay, pattinson and faukner...but i just don't rate wright. course those are just mocks, i've probably got them terribly wrong

sydney thunder by far the most interesting squad given all the grade and other state players in the squad. perth the most boring...although i do appreciate all the dad's army jokes arthur has set up for us

Bailey for the stars is an interesting one atm. He's in a strange head space right now has been shitty all pre season and leading into the main season and his temper his shined through twice already this season, including a nasty clash with two Stars teammates earlier this week.

Hobart have failed in it's signings, it really needs to ensure the stars of Tasmanian cricket play for us as we know attracting the main stays form other states is always going to be near impossible task for Hobart. You can understand the Launceston boys perhaps not caring about Hobart so much but having a Hobart boy in Butterworth go to Sydney is a big loss.

Voges would make that team easily, certainly before Quiney and Wright. Excellent T20 player, and I'm annoyed that he didn't sign for the Scorchers to be honest. :p

Shaun Marsh*/Simon Katich
Liam Davis
Luke Pomersbach*
Paul Collingwood
Marcus North
Luke Ronchi (+)
Mitch Marsh
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Nathan Rimmington
Michael Beer*/Brad Hogg
Mark Cameron*

*If available

Given Shaun Marsh won't be available for most, move Katich to open with Davis. And yes, I didn't pick Gibbs, because I don't want him in our First XI. Hell, Collingwood only gets in because of his bowling and fielding. :thumbsd:

Brisbane Heat line-up . . . actually this is harder than I thought!:p

Ah ok: based on first game with everyone available (that makes it a little bit easier)

Matthew Hayden
Brendon McCullum (wk)
Chris Lynn
James Hopes
Peter Forrest
Dan Christian
Nathan Hauritz
Dan Vettori
Ben Cutting
Ryan Harris
Chris Swan
Michael Neser (12th)

But I've got a nagging feeling that Boof Lehmann will do something a bit left-field -maybe play Andrew Robinson or Ryan Broad perhaps as an extra bat, or chuck in Nick Buchanan (although he hasn't bowled a ball yet as far as I can see this season for anyone).

I assume that teams will be picked by the coach & captain? No-one seems to have mentioned selectors or match committees anywhere that I can see?

If they want publicity, and being based at Etihad, they would be better off signing Bartel or Marc Murphy or Deledio or another footy player that can play a bit.

Exactly, no need to turn it to an even bigger circus.

Bit late for that.

So these teams are wheeling out 40yo retirees like MacGill now, are they?

Ball one hasn't even been bowled yet and it is already getting embarrassing.

And I say that as somebody who liked MacGill (the player).

And can any of the Victorians enlighten us as to whether Meyrick Buchanan is any good? Or is it just a timely publicity move to sign him by the Melbourne Renegades (aka the non-SKWs)? :thumbsu:

The one thing this comp could have done is propel some grade cricketers out of obscurity. Unfortunately it's 40yos and guys like Wells that are filling the last few positions of lists instead.
