It would be good purely from a fans perspective to see more state players playing for other teams. State players just staying with the team(s) in thier state is just predictable. It would be interesting to see more player movement to make it somewhat different.

makes it a waste of time restructuring the comp

Mickey Arthur has given me a laugh by basically picking all Warriors plus an ex-West Aussie in Katich. Pat on the back for keeping the Marsh brothers together. :thumbsu: Them in different teams would have had me hacked off. It would be great if Johnson got to play a few matches and came in at 3/4. He's so good to watch bat.

Not so happy about Gibbs but you never know some of the old spark might be there. He's been rubbish in the IPL though.

if this was taking place at the end or start of the season I think you'd be seeing more moves. As it is the only (non-money) reason why players might move is if they have family in that area and want to be there for xmas.

Dale Stein has been linked to the Perth Scorchers :)

If this happens we can call ourselves the South AFican Rebels maybe . Stein would hurt on the WACA wicket but in 20/20 its not such a factor .

absolutely no way. The tests v SL start on the 15th of Dec and ODers finish around the 15th of Jan. Johan Botha might - might - be available with Imran Tahir taking his spot but outside of that don't expect any guns from SA or SL.

Even if he played one match though, what a drawcard. Especially if you could get him and Johnson on the roster for the same match. That twit MJ could see what a real strike bowler is.

Not a bad opening bowling attack for the Renegades:

BigBashLeague Shaun Tait and Dirk Nannes to form a lethal opening bowling attack for @RenegadesBBL

The Melbourne Renegades have today announced the key signings for the 2011/12 playing squad.
Announcing a balance of experienced T20 specialists and young home grown talent, Head Coach Simon Helmot and CEO Geoff Miles addressed the media at the home of the Renegades, Etihad Stadium, this morning to unveil 14 of their newest recruits.
The landmark signing of Brad Hodge will thrill the Victorian faithful as he sits as arguably one of the best T20 batsmen in the world, accruing a mammoth 3,690 runs in his 127 T20 appearances.
“Im really looking forward to playing here at Etihad Stadium with the Renegades and supporting Simon Helmot and my team mates in this exciting new competition. It will be great to play in front of my home crowd and with such exciting talent in our squad.”
Other signings for the Melbourne Renegades inaugural season of the KFC T20 Big Bash League include:
Andrew Mc Donald
The 30-year old all-rounder boasts 1116 T20 runs to his record with an average of 34.87 and a strike rate of 123.58. He has taken 60 wickets in the shortened format of the game, with best figures of 5/13. McDonald, who stepped in to take the reigns as Victorian Captain during the 2010/11 season, successfully led the team to a Ryobi Cup win.
Aaron Finch
A top order batting powerhouse, Aaron Finch is classed as one of the most entertaining batsmen in T20 cricket. The 24-year old Colac native has an average of 37.45 and a strike rate of 131.84 and will be a force to be reckoned with this summer.
Dirk Nannes
Victorian quick, Dirk Nannes was not going to be overlooked when it came to T20 selection. The 35-year old veteran has played 113 T20 matches, taken a staggering 144 wickets at an economy rate of 7.05. His best bowling in this form of the game has seen him snare 4/11. A late call-up into the Australian side for the 2011 World Cup, Nannes went straight on to compete in this year’s IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, only for his tournament to be cut short due to injury. He is currently playing with Surrey in England’s T20 competition.
Shaun Tait
The pace-bowling dynamo from Western Australia was one of the Renegades first interstate recruits and with stats like 87 wickets from 62 T20 matches with an economy rate of 7.67 why wouldn’t he be? Tait’s best figures stand at 4/14, and he is credited with the second fastest delivery ever recorded at 161.1km/hour.
Michael Hill
Former Australian Under-19s Captain, Michael Hill’s inclusion into the squad will further add to the mixture of youth. Making his T20 debut for Victoria earlier this year against NSW, Hill has shown maturity beyond his years in his display of vibrant batting. The 22-year old has already made 584 first class runs and holds a healthy average of 29.
Glenn Maxwell
A right-hand batsman and off spinner, Glenn Maxwell will be a strong all-rounder for the Renegades this summer. The 22-year old Belgrave local made his T20 debut for Victoria in January 2010 and also made it into the Bushranger squad that travelled to South Africa for the Champions League that same year. He made the fastest 50 ever in Australian one day cricket history, striking 61 from 27 balls.
Nathan Reardon
The 26-year old Queensland Bulls all-rounder will head south this summer to take his place in the Renegades line up. Reardon has compiled 388 runs in the 23 first class innings he has played whilst also holding best bowling figures of 2/20 in T20. Known for his sharp fielding, Reardon is a welcome inclusion to this season’s Renegades squad.
Will Sheridan
Joining the strong contingent of Victorian inclusions is 23-year old Will Sheridan. Another young all-rounder, the left-hand batsman has already made 116 first class runs, despite having only played four matches. Sheridan is also regarded as a promising left-arm quick and now calls Melbourne home after relocating from Canberra in 2009.
Ryan Carters
Ryan Carters stands as the youngest member of the Renegades line-up thus far. The 20-year old wicket keeper was recruited from the ACT to play for the Bushrangers during the 2009/10 season. Carters’ T20 debut was one to remember - walking onto the MCG in January 2010 in front of a record breaking crowd of 43,000.
Shane Harwood
In a T20 career spanning 33 matches, 37-year old Harwood has taken 38 wickets at an average of 23.65. His best bowling figures sit at 3/13 and he boasts an economy rate of 7.71. The Victorian veteran’s last T20 appearance for Victoria was against Tasmania earlier this year and he has also represented Australia in T20 cricket.
Aaron Heal
Adding to the mix of exciting interstate recruits, West Australian Aaron Heal will also join the Renegades this summer. The left-arm slow orthodox bowler has taken 23 wickets in his 19 T20 games at an economy rate of 7.03. He was WA’s leading wicket taker only two seasons ago.
Jayde Herrick
Herrick epitomises the Renegades. A youthful and colorful character, the 26-year old forklift driver has been a consistent performer at Victorian premier level throughout 2010/11. Taking 26 wickets at an average of 21.6, Herrick has also proven to be powerful with the bat, putting on a quick-fire knock of 40 off just 19 deliveries in Victoria’s tour match against England last year. Herrick also made a fantastic first class debut for the Vics earlier this year taking six wickets for the match and putting on a crucial 85-run partnership despite coming in at number 11.
Brenton McDonald
The younger brother of fellow Renegade, Andrew, will be looking to make his own mark this summer. The 27-year old Richmond CC batsman has also represented the Victorian under-23s and bowls handy leg-breaks, which will see him take on all-rounder status this season.
“We are thrilled to be able to announce such a versatile and diverse group of players for this summer’s Big Bash League,” said Helmot.
“I also look forward to having two Victorian and Australian greats Merv Hughes and Dean Jones on my coaching staff for our first season.”
International signings will be confirmed later in the week.

Brad Hodge as well...
