Not a bad opening bowling attack for the Renegades:

They also signed Brad Hodge and Michael Hill...

Sounds like a bowling attack that has a potential to be very expensive with the bowl. Do not mind Hodge leading the team, hopefully the Renegades pick up a few more Victorians and get Bravo as has been rumoured.

EDIT: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/s...-big-bash-league/story-e6frf9if-1226084796702

Slightly more detailed list. Renegades have 14 signed. I am liking the look of the team. Stars are going down! They will probably end up with alleged Twenty20 specialist Cameron White.

I get the feeling this tournament will do very well due to the novelty factor as the IPL did in its first season. It will then decline after that.

Two stars. I am guessing Bravo and Afridi. Big Bash can only raid Pakistan and the Windies. Maybe though they may go after a recently retired player like Ganguly, Charles Langelevelt, Lara etc. Apparently Hayden may be considering a comeback as well. What about Andrew Symonds? Who is signing him up?

Gutted about Tait - the format was better last year in my opinion. Darren Berry did say that Kieron Pollard was cms away from signing with the Strikers.

well WA's 2nd overseas signing is sorta along that line.....Paul Collingwood

They got Rimmington too which is important. Ronchi & Cameron less so

Shocking two signings, just for the hell of it, it seems. We could have a middle order of Katich, North, Collingwood...that's Test stuff. Oh dear.

Gibbs and Collingwood shouldn't be Best XI. The first two Internationals to not get a game all season?

Kevin O'Brien was the one I wanted to target.

Shit work Scorchers :thumbsd: :thumbsd: :thumbsd:

No way. He went to India again for Somerset and cracked again. Massive massive shame as he's probably in career best form (could have got 1000 runs before May but for a poor start) but I just don't see it happening. Particularly considering it's @ xmas time.

Luke Wright's the only English name I've heard mentioned (for a Melb. team) but hopefully others come along. Rashid I guess will return. One of the Melb/Sydney teams should pick up Steve Davies considering how there'll be a keeper shortage for them. (although I guess Daniel Smith will end up at the other Sydney team - and by then Greggy C probably would have disposed of Haddin anyway). Oh and I guess Darren Pattinson is English too...he'll surely get picked up by someone.

Nothing wrong with Katich and Collingwood in T20. In any case Collingwood's bowling and fielding will be more than useful. And North got picked up because really they had to. Couldn't dump the skipper of WA. There's the problem in having the same coach for both the state and city t20 team. His bowling will be useful too anyway. Really Ronchi is the worst out of them. He's 30 now and showing no signs of consistency. As above you could have got Steve Davies & dumped Gibbs who is more likely to get suspended for going to a strip club the night before a match than to score runs for whoever. You lose two almost certain under-performers and perhaps gain two decent-to-good.

Ronchi is a must considering the docile nature of a lot of our signings. Hopefully he opens with Marsh, but that spot will probably go to Gibbs...

The first point is a good one, coaches will retain most of their own players in fear of upsetting them. i.e. Arthur chooses George Bailey over Adam Voges, it has the potential to cause some rifts between coach and player.

A lot more players would have shifted states and the whole concept would work better if State coaches were not allowed to coach franchise teams.

I'd rather Voges than North. I'd rather one of the younger English county players like James Taylor or Alex Hales or that red-haired Irishman O'Brien than Gibbs.

tait and nannes makes the renegades pretty lethal. world class. i wish adelaide would get on and sign someone

What is the limit with overseas players per game??

Renegades have a hard and fast bowling line up but whilst they could destroy side they could also go for big runs. All 3 are also old and reasonably injury prone.

Wish the Heat would sign up some gun players

How many games is each team going to play? If you have 8 teams are you looking at 7 games per team or 14 (home and away) or somewhere in between?

From the press conference where the new BigBash was announced:

In the short term we’re probably talking about where each team plays seven or eight matches

So yeah 7 matches plus probably a final, perhaps semis.

Decent number. Hopefully they do not extend it to ridiculous proportions like the IPL (who have 14 I think) or the English (some very crazy number). Ideally you would leave it at 7 or increase it to 10 at most.

So 28 games + 3 finals over four weeks? How long does the tournament run for?

Hobart have apparently signed an experienced English opening batsman as their second international. Could be that Lumb guy that was with Queensland last year though I guess.

Hobart so far: Cosgrove, Paine, Birt, Lockyear, Gulbis, Johnstone, Rana Naved, Doherty, Hogan

starts 18th of dec iirc, going through to about the same of Jan. Will be interesting to see if T20's are played in Sydney & Melbourne during the tests.

They will need to play games almost every day. You would think the Renegades could play at Etihad during the Boxing Day Test but I suspect they will have two away games in a row or something instead.

Are people likely to go watch this? I am unsure- may go to the Stars/Renegades derby but in all honesty will probably follow the scores on Cricinfo and had it been on free to air the odd game on television.
