I don't rate Mainwaring as highly as some. Same too with Woosha. Embley > Mainwaring. Woosha was a great on-field leader because of his physicality and courage, but he was nothing more than an average player. Hurn > Worsfold.

- I think Wirra will be another pushed out. He was great in 2005-2007 but had a lot of off years be it injury or form.
- Embley is an interesting one as he was very good in 2005-2008 and then 2011 and he also did win a norm smith.

Wirra definitely doesn't get pushed out. In Judges years (even though he got those foot stress fractures) it was legitimately the Cousins-Wirra team.
Kerr & Embley are definite in's. Most likely at the expense of Lamb/Waterman/Pyke.
Kennedy in for White who misses the team now
Glass to FB and McIntosh to the pocket. Brennan to the bench or omitted.
The only other players that are even a chance at team 30 are Hurn (serious chance by end of his career to be in team 40 due to being a captain), LeCras and Priddis (based on the Brownlow and nothing else as he is sh1thouse).
Mackenzie is a legend but doing his knee will hurt him attempting to make team 40 as its pretty tough to get past Jackovich, Glass, McIntosh and Brennan.

Hurn is more skilful for sure but I think Worsfold holds the edge in impacting the result of games. Woosha was very limited offensively where Hurn can get shut out of games on the offensive side of things, which really hurts the team. Dual premiership winning captain...I can't see him getting pushed out of the "best of teams" for a long while yet.

Ive named Lynch. Not convinced but feel we need a second ruck or some bloke who can give a chop out. Suma as the second tallest forward and a single ruck just isn't realistic.

Don't think it needs a 2nd ruckman, the previous teams only had one. It doesn't need to be realistic, I think it's just meant to be a collection of our best players organised into the various positions, as well as 4 others on the bench.

What do you specifically mean by "Worsfold holds the edge in impacting the result of games"? There's more to Hurn's games than just his offence. His strength in a one on one, his reading of the play and thus intercept marking, as well as his use of his body around congestion to make space to benefit himself or his teammates is a feature of Hurn's defensive nous. This gets overlooked due to his standout kicking.

Worsfold being a dual premiership captain speaks as to his ability to lead men, not play football. Given the greatness of the team put together in the T30, finding a leader among them besides Woosha wouldn't be difficult, so Woosha isn't required based on his leadership alone, and I don't think he was as good a footballer as Hurn.

3 flags is a team accolade, not a Worsfold accolade, thus it's irrelevant.

Agree to disagree. I think any representative team such as this or the AAs need to include a second player who gives a chop out.

I would tend to agree with you on this as I feel the same with the AA selection each year. The thing is there is a country mile between Cox and the rest of the ruckman at the moment (touch wood Lycett or NicNat is in the talk in 11 years time) and at this point in time theres probably a country mile between the level and consistiency of play between our 21-30th player in the squad compared to the next ruckman. It's just a pity that none of those KPP are able to give a chop out in the ruck.

On a side note to this thread. Would everyone prefer that we kept updating the best team ever T10, T20. T30, T40, ...., T100, ... , T(N), T(N+10) or would you prefer they just reward the best team for the past ten years thus T10 = T1987-1996, T97-06, T07-16.

I guess the system we are doing now is just a rolling team that will slowly change but always be strong and will always come up well he played in this time etc etc... where as the alternative system would be keeping similar players together and creating a team of the decade?

The guy played 3 seasons with us. The only possibility for 2nd rucks are Gardiner and NicNat - both AA

They could easily do both, and include a retrospective 97-06 team.

With regards to Hurn, he played his best footy when Glass was in the team. Not saying I don't rate him now but the two of them ganged up on a key forward, Glassy would win the one on one and Hurn would mop up the ball and rebound. He was like a seagull making off with a chip after Glassy had killed the contest. It was an obvious ploy as it happened so many times. Hurn would leave his man and feast on the spoils of Glass. After watching the team since the beginning, it's really hard to see which legend he replaces, Bluey and Woosh will be ridiculously hard to displace. Still dark on Earl for sending Bluey into early retirement! Can't see Hurn in the team until T40, and to do that he'd need a few years of stellar form with some flags to top it off.

If you think leadership and inspiration are valueless traits in a team sport we have a fundamental difference of opinion. These qualities are hard to quantify or assign a value to so there probably isn't much point arguing the toss.

Either way I am confident that Woosh won't get bumped out of any of these teams for a considerable period of time. Waterman, Brennan, Lewis, Lamb and Tony Evans all likely to go before Woosh and I'd wager better footballers like Heady and Mainwaring will get the chop before John too.

The issue of how the WCE come to award their club champion has been discussed many a time. I put as much credence in the award as I do the Brownlow.
