Use your laptop - stay on the couch.

Log into your NAS via a web browser?

Wireless transfers in the next iOS.
'

No my PC is in another room, why must I move to download a torrent.

You talk about simplicity and want ppl to own and set up NAS?

So not yet, only 5 years behind the ball on that one.

So I can download music off the net and put it on via iTunes. I heard you can't but you will be able to by paying $25.

Own and set up a NAS?

You plug it in, put a disc in, you're done.

5 years behind, huh? So the IPhone isn't perfect; yet the alternatives are?

Borgsta - you can put whatever you want on your IPod, provided it isn't copyright protected.

Some people buy IPads with no clue as to the alternatives; some people dismiss them completely purely because they're 'cool,' - both are equally as silly.

See Killer Eagle, I was half in agreement with you, until I got to this line;

In reality an I pad is a touchpad for dummies.

That's just wrong.

I've got no doubt that the Xoom or the Transformer or the new Sony Tablets are good pieces of kit, just sick of morans whose reasons for hating the IPad boil down to 'because they're popular.'
Hey man, Morans love the iPad so much they retire from football to work on apps for them.

i jsut use a remote desktop client on my transformer to download torrents...

also the reason i dont like apple is because of their philosophy of locking down devices and controlling what you can and cant have on their products. if i want pr0n/flash/other crap on my device i want to be able to put it on there. also i despise itunes

make that pr0n on apps.
for some reason apple like double standards
allowing sports illustrated but not allowing another app with bikini clad models.

and i've had no issues with flash on my transformer tablet
youtube works flawlessly

oh and emulators without needing to jailbreak is awesome

It's a piece of hardware that needs to be installed. What % of the iPad owning population do you think has NAS?

Yeah wireless technology aint new. Perfection now, well everything can improve but I thought we were discussing ease of use as the reason it is a market leader.

So you can't put anything you like on there. Thanks for clearing that up.

But it is to an extent.

Apple has made there ios locked down and as simple as possible. The reason, the majority of the world isn't very technological minded. Sure you can do a fair bit of cool stuff on there, and its still reasonably customasible but there whole idea is keep it simple. Would you agree there?

If someone that's not very clever said to me I want a tablet, I would say get the I pad.if someone was quite clever i would say look around and get a tablet running android. (Android 4 will be coming out in a couple months)

Soon tablets will be running full versions of windows, and it will be a case of ditch the laptop the tablet does anything. However if apple keeps going with its closed operating system you will still need toown a laptop/Mac/desktop to pair it and to do your everyday stuff.

LOL, cos that worked so well the first time round!

You don't actually: http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#pcfree

Yes but I'm talking downloading torrents, photoshoping, printing, business programs and accounting, cameras, myob etc and just about any PC accessoy that comes with a USB port.

Eventually as technology gets better we will have stable tablets running windows 8 and i can see them putting an huge dent in the laptop market to the point of where we don't need a stand alone laptop or PC.

A closed operating system won't work as a laptop/PC alternative , and the only way for apple to combat that would be to release alternative tablets running the Mac os.

Ok, that, I'm more agreeable too ;)

I don't agree about the last part though - for most people, tablets are complimentary to a PC/Laptop, they aren't a genuine replacement.

I'm not anti apple though, I own an iPod 4, my phone plan is up in a few months and i probably would get the iPhone 5 because its simple to use and does what its meant to do well. And I'm sure it will make great phone calls :) I had planned on the galaxy 2, but a mate has none and it is really starting to slow down and crash a lot when bogged down with hundreds of apps

I can see tablets eventually being a laptop replacement for a large amount of people.a few years away still though.

I suppose this whole argument boils down to what do you want a tablet to do for you.

A huge number of people just use their laptops for looking at photos, checking emails and surfing the web (my mother, for example.) Tablets can easily do all that now, and with less hassle than a full blown computer. For those types of users I can see tablets replacing them, though anyone that writes long documents or plays games will not be satisfied in any way that I can see.

I know someone that bought a netbook primarily to read books. I'd suggest that he should have gone with a proper e-book reader or tablet.

I'd like to get one, just for the sake of getting one... i wouldnt use it much though. I'd totally get one if it had all of the trimmings (an ethernet connection, but that would defeat the purpose of it being a wifi device!).

I don't need another portable mp3, mp4/movie player or jpeg viewer.

You can get USB to Ethernet connectors pretty cheaply. I have one and it does the job pretty well..

Really, that is interesting. I don't know why i'd prefer to connect via ethernet.... it just seems more attractive to me. I only connect the ps3 via wifi connection these days, i used to connect the 360 wirelessly, but after some connection dramas i opted to revert back to using an ethernet cable whenever i want to go online with it.

I would use the tablet "wireless" connectivity for when i am wanting to use it in the lounge room, or my bedroom. Ultimately i'd only need to connect it to the pc periodically to transfer files and such, i could just use the usb cable for that (as well as charging it).
