i got to rebels/pioneers a little bit through the game but i thought the Brown twins, Shaun Grigg and lachy george all played reasonably well. Daniel Connors played quite average in my opinion... well nothing close to what he has set as his benchmark. Rebels by about 10 goals i think it was. Congrats to them on going through the home and away season undefeated

Any of you see what position Dawes played yesterday?

Dawes played CHF all day. Great battle with Murray youngster Jay Koehler. Dawes imposed himself on the game both in the air and was great at ground level for a big man. A dominant Sandy midfield game him plenty of opportunities.

Thanks for that - I think he is a terrific talent. For a kid who stands 194cm he is very athletic and could even play mid. Really nice kick to.

I am hoping this kid lasts til round 3 or 4 for the Pies. May be being wishful..

I was impressed by him at the Champs and was surprised at the lack of hype around him. Smart player and good size.

i agree, for a guy of dawseys size he has great mobility and passion, stuck up for zarra when he got in a fight and realli shows how much he cares, he dominated yesterday, even though he had 2 opponents a lot of the time. ive heard that hes going to draft camp.
also shane tregear deserved b.o.g, he has the best footy brain just knows what to do with the ball, and that goal on the final siren was magic

I've also been surprised by the lack of hype around him, but doubt he would still be around as a Round 3 choice. Showed a great work rate yesterday - didn't ever have two oppoents though bomberboy2 - just common sense support backmen around him who came over to support Koehler in the contest as you do when play is being directed through a key player. Great to see two good CHB/CHF duels remain throughout the game.

Chandra how did Kennedy play?

Brilliantly. Very strong around the stoppages to win the footy or apply pressure. Will be interested to see the Stats- had plenty of it and the ball usually ended up in a teamamates hands - very effective.

chandra...you seem pretty up to date with the Sandy boys, so how did you rate coombes 6 goals again and suckling in the best again too?

Not all that up to date with Sandy - this was a good opportunity to watch them with all the boys back in and was hoping to see McEvoy and Harbrow play but neither were in Murray's side. Coombes form was probably the highlight of the day for me- I expected to see Dawes and Kennedy play as they did.

Coombes was electric- a great leap, good hands, worked hard and beat Hebbard as his first opponent who has been Murray's best player in the second half of the year.

i went to the eastern v power game.
a positive for eastern was that dale walker held lachy hansen to 1 goal. played well on him till hansen was forced of the ground limping, injured in a marking contest with walker.

A different role for Hansen on Sunday. Hudson had him playing HFF/Wing which is interesting for a 6'5 KPP. Had 17 possessions and a couple of goals and went off with an ankle injury early in the last quarter. Appears that Hudson felt he could try a few positional changes given the quality of the opposition.

Young Walker did well as Hansen really tested his fitness by running hard up and down the ground all day. Hansen went to FF at the start of the last and kicked 2 in 2 minutes and was stiff not to be paid the mark when he hurt his ankle. Looked like he didn't want to come off, however, was seriously inconvenienced and as they were up by plenty there was no reason to keep him on.

Eastern although missing a couple of its better players was extremely disappointing and IMO all the teams in the bottom 4 on current form would have put up a better showing. They had patches of good form, especially in the 3rd qtr but gave up the ball far too easily.

matty o'dwyer had 40 touches at 3 quarter time against dandenong on the weekend. pretty impressive. 46 for the game i believe

Are we getting carried away with relating peformance to stats. Looks to me like most teams base their best players on stats alone , even to the point where players who play on each other are voted b.o.g by their respective clubS. I have seen some great defensive games this year and the players never get a mention.
