Last year Richmond barely won a tackle count in any game.
On Thursday night they won it 88 to 67. That's not a win, that's a shellacking.
Under Hardwick, tackling has never (or at least seemed to be) been a priority, much to our detriment.
Has the penny finally dropped? And if so, why now?
Various reports have said we were playing against witches hats on Thursday, but I don't subscribe to that. Carlton actually played a very fast game plan that required tackling.

I cant remember where but I'm sure I saw Dimma say its been a big focus.

It may have been a dream it may have been reality.
Stop sniffing glue m8

Caddy said it was a part of the gameplan that they had been working hard on in the off season.
Which leads to me another point. Although Caddy didn't have a huge game with just 17 touches, he had 7 tackles.

The lack of tackling over the last few seasons was an absolute joke.
It was actually an embarrassment at how nonexistent it was.
I know it's only round 1, but I hope a MASSIVE emphasis is placed on this from now on.

Caddy was pretty good to the astute observers.

Thoughts SCPaige?

Tackling is interesting.

The Collingwood v Western Bulldogs tackle count was almost the same as Carlton v Richmond.

Collingwood/Carlton 67 v Western Bulldogs/Richmond 87/88 respectively. We had more tackles in our forward 50 than both Western Bulldogs and Collingwood. If we can keep that forward pressure up next week I think we'll blow Collingwood away, but we'll see.

Was really impressed with our forward 50 tackling on Thursday night.
Yep. it's no longer just Rioli doing it. Caddy is helping out and even Jack laid a few tackles.

It helps when you've got blokes running at electric pace. They get them or if they don't the pressure transfer makes oppo panic, give slower blokes the chance to get them too. TV, jR, Lloyd are never going to catch blokes but the panic caused by RBC gives JR, Caddy etc a chance of nabbing someone.
Speed kills.

What's going on?

I thought we were supposed to be a low tackling sort of side. Dimma said it himself last year!

Had a quiet chuckle when I heard Dimma in his presser saying something along the lines of it's what the fans wanted - more pressure and tackling - and it what we want.
So the fans are dictating the game plan.
I would have thought without fans, tackling and pressure are paramount in football and non-negotiables.

Will be tough mate .... I went to the Dogs v Pies last night (two night in a row at the G), Collingwood were impressive.
Although their forward line looks a little top heavy and at times dysfunctional. Which will be interesting as our backline is not so close-checking.

Save for Rance and Grimes ....... neither is ours.
Like us, they have a cracking midfield. I anticipate it will be very close. Don't mind saying it ... been a huge follower and fan of Treloar ever since I slotted him in my Super Coach midfield in his rookie season. The bloke is a gun!
Was impressed with their resilience last night - could easily have wilted a few times but kept coming.

The philosophy was that if you tackle then your out of the game yourself so coral instead, my view is f@ck that, tackling makes the opposition rush themselves even if it doesnt stick, nothing better than seeing one after another Tigers coming in for the tackle it won us a lot of turnovers and is what Footy is about.

I thought Astbury was pretty good as well as he was in the JLT, we need to step up a level next week and cant afford the constant 20 minute lapses that cost us a big win on Thursday.

I agree but give the bloke a break its a presser bit unfair picking apart every comment as if its gospel.
