Too many half-hearted, one-armed attempts, don't wrap up the ball enough - also I believe we don't watch the hips of our opponents and that's why we seem to get side-stepped & given the run-around so easily and so often. Hip movement is usually the first thing that indicates which way an opponent's going to go.I have noticed a concerning rate of broken tackles by our boys in the first couple of Rounds.
Perhaps we struggle that little bit more against the older and more mature clubs?
missed tackle count would be interesting, i bet we'd be right up there sadly

We are going to find out this week as this is the one area the Dogs excell at & what McCartney prides his game on.We better come ready to play & TACKLE with plenty of defensive pressure.I'll be interested to see how we go against a heavy contested focus team as there will be times when we need to go head to head with our opponents and need to match their intensity and defensive work.
Great point!..We have started well with 2 wins but we should not kid ourselves we need to improve this area greatly. We need to step up our tackling & defensive pressure this week then another level again for the maggies & freo.Need to lift bigtime,
Why were the bummers able to stick 61 tackles against melbourne? Are people going to suggest we dominated possession more against the saints than they did against that joke of footy side?
Out of interest what were the opposition tackle stats compared to ours? Just watching the games they were very free flowing, open games. This may have something to do with it. I'll guarantee when we play a team that like to play a more contested style (Sydney etc...) the tackle count will double. Not because we suddenly became twice as good at tackling either. Stats can be misleading, not saying we can't improve it though!
V Carlton they had 49
V Saints they had 55
Your point is valid... v Sydney I know our count will be higher but I also reckon we have not made as many as we should have so far...
I am not as perturbed by this stat as most on here. That fact we have the least amount of tackles also shows that we are getting to the ball first, and forcing the opposition to chase US!. And given how much we fell into a heap last year, in last quarters etc. I think it's part of our strategy to tire teams out, and grind over the top of them. Given our run and spread tactics, this seems like a fairly smart idea to me.
My goodness people can be selective! Can you please explain to me and others who feel the same how essendon had 61 to 35 tackles vs Melbourne. Quite clearly essendon were first to the ball all game and melbourne were chasing them!I am not as perturbed by this stat as most on here. If we were at about 50-55 and near or at the bottom of the rankings I'd be a little worried but happy to see where it went....but averaging 40, 4 less than the Demons and 12 less than the 3rd worst team has to be a massive cause for concern regardless of what kind of game plan we're playing.
Bring in the VLAS ! tackel machine
Newy has had a lot of tackles broken this year which is concerning.

Can you also explain how sydney who have had a soft draw against GWS and GC have dominated both games are the number 1 tackling side in the first 2 rounds. I understand we're 2 zip but the lengths some supporters will go to to convince themselves that everything is perfect is just extraordinary

We also need to close down Libba & Cooney who seems to be running into form.
