This tutorial is now out of date.

Simply place the @ symbol in front of the users name and they will be tagged.

Tagging users is a new feature of BigFooty. It is primarily used to aware a user of a particular post or thread. The tagged user then receives an 'alert' to notify them that they have been tagged.

To tag a user, type the '@' symbol and then, without any spaces, begin typing the name of the user you wish to tag. A drop-down list of names will appear below the '@' symbol, and the list will shorten as you type more letters. To finish the tag, click on the poster's name in the dropdown list (avatars are also helpful here to identify posters with similar names).

The resulting tag looks like this: Chief

One problem with tagging is if the poster has multiple words in their username. Once the user types a space after the '@' symbol, the drop-down list disappears. The best workaround for this is to wrap the username you wish to tag in

tags.

For instance:
ek8SQ.png

In these instances, it is imperative that you spell the username you wish to tag correctly, or else the BF database may tag the wrong user - or perhaps even no user at all. (NB: Doesn't matter if letters are uppercase or lowercase - thanks GG)

Hopefully these tips help you to answer an oft-asked question. :thumbsu:

This actually isn't entirely correct btw.

You only need to ensure the correct spacing or dashes or underscores or periods/commas or numbers are used. You don't have to actually worry about capitalizing any letters.

For instance: the user Dirty Bird can be tagged using that method you describe just by typing dirty bird (ensuring the space between) and it will automatically tag and link to the user named Dirty Bird. But if you don't put the space there it will take you to another user called dirtybird with no space.

Or...you can tag me (GG) by typing gg instead.

I believe the USER tags no longer work, but tagging using the "@" symbol is still fine.

Test: lmach

Edit: I was right

You have to use the code to do it. The easiest way is just tag them normally, make your post. Then go back and edit the post. It will say [ USER=130220 ] Bengwatkins [ /USER ] . Just go and delete the watkins part, or whatever. You can even tag someone with a completely non-related name. Like:

totally random username

Is someone gonna tell him you can only tag a maximum amount of people?

And when you edit posts they dont come up either?
:D
Can someone elaborate on this?
