As the season is almost upon us,I've been quietly reflecting on what has evolved over the summer and what awaits us in the next 6 months.
I'm excited but also trying to contain my expectations. The past 5 seasons have been a foreign experience for me,and now I find myself constantly asking myself is this a new dawn,a new beginning,a new Carlton!
Is it wise to hope for a revival of the great teams of old or do I snap out of any such dream and realize that this new Carlton must make its own way and write its own pages of glory.
I want, or maybe need to cut the apron strings of the 70-80-90's and roll the dice with this new breed of navy blue.
They've called us cheats, they've called us losers, they've kept us in the lime light when we didn't deserve to be.That's what sort of club we are whether they like it or not.
I can't wait for the roar on Thursday,I can't wait to see if we've closed this nasty chapter in our golden history.
Anyway just a few random thoughts on a Sunday night.
I want to wish all my fellow BF Carlton supporters a great season ahead and I look forward to the banter on BF
Go the heckin'g blues!!!

No team will ever be as succesful for such lengthy periods of time like Carlton and other clubs were during the last century, thanks to the draft.
Let's not get carried away and talk ourselves up too early. This could be the year, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Last year we finished 15th and we still have predominantly the same team.
Can't wait for season 08, which i personally think will be the first year that Carlton starts to slowly make our run up the ladder

Don't freak out wondering - just think 4 sleeps to go and counting!!!

Whatever will be will be...let's just hope it's good....;)

i'm literally itching to be able to pull out the carlton scarf, jump on the train and make the walk to the ground. I feel like going there now and just lining up, hahaha.

Will be the first time i get to see Chris Judd playing in person.:)

Too late. i am. i've been quite confident over the summer after the aquisition of mr judd, but now all of a sudden i'm second guessing myself. i'm trying to be positive , but that lingering feeling i've had for about 7 years now just wont go away. its slowly leaving, a win in round one will do a lot to settle myself.

i'm excited, nervous, happy elated, expectant. footys back. i just hope its a good thing.:thumbsu:

This time last year there was a lot of optimism.

We had won 4 in a row, and with the new recruit Gibbs, and with Murphy going into his second year, plus the form of Cloke, Stevens, Setanta, Fev, Waite and Fisher, we were very excited.

After winning round 1 vs Tiges I remember clearly going to the TD vs Cats with the commentators wondering how the Cats were going to cope with our players.................SMASH THE **** OUT OF THEM.

After the great comeback of round 3 I though, last week was an abomination.........we are back.......and to quote Fev on that day "We are writing our own history"...............

Then a string of competitive losses...........easy to make excuses........two wins in a row.........here we go.......now its on.

Going into the Friday night game vs Hawks we hit the game as favourites with Franklin a late ommission...........

Reality hit. We were still a ong way off.

This little spiel gives some insight into the anxiety I have about the upcoming season.
It was easy for me to believe in round 11 last year that we were unlucky not to be 7-4 and knocking on the door of the final 8.

I am trying hard to contain myself for fear of being crushed again.

8-10 wins..........PLEASE.

After 6 months we are about to find out what effect having Chris Judd makes. Will it make a massive difference? Who knows. At the very least we hope it lifts the other players because lets face it in a team of 18 one man can't do it all- you need winners all over the ground.

Interesting fact- the year Judd went to WCE the team went from 5 wins the previous year to 11. I'm not suggesting we have the same quality list as they did but it shows teams can make significant steps from year to year.

In truth we need a couple of the younger guys to make a name for themselves- i.e. Jamison, Edwards, Hartlett, Bower etc. Also the backline will be key- it's time we stopped letting the opposition get really easy goals- that's what I've hated the most over the past couple of years.

Agree with the above sentiments. Do we dare to dream that this season will be the true start to the revival? The lid is still definitely on but it has to happen sooner or later. Give us something to hang our hats and scarves on Blueboys!

Didn't look too on the other Friday arvo at PP. :D

All things considered the blues are in a pretty good position.
Compared to where we were 18 months ago, i think
most supporters would be pretty happy with the direction
we look to take. I personally think this year will still be somewhat
frustrating, but hopefully less than previous.

Oh absolutely. Cautiously optimistic is the stance at the moment, we've been burnt so many times over and over and over again whenever we have been optimistic that I find it hard to totally 'let go' and heighten my expectation.

It's now at a stage that because I don't want to get burnt yet again, my expectations are 14th or higher and I'll be happy with that  I know we should be aiming for a lot more but I can't bring myself around to expect the world and end up with a handful of dust.

Since 2002 we've add different reasons to be optimistic going into the new season and been let down time and again.

2003: New gun :)o) coach, players returning from injury, new board - a new beginning.
2004: 12 different 'afl hardened' :)o) players traded from other clubs - NICK STEVENS!!
2005: Coming off a solid 10 win season, continous improvement - NAB CUP!!! We'll be good this year :)o)
2006: Apart from having Murphy debut, can't really remember any sensational cause for optimism. Let down yet again.
2007: Second #1 pick in a row! Gun midfield now. NAB CUP!! :)o) New board, new CEO, new football manager, money flowing in - new beginning
2008: JUDD!! New coach, another #1 pick. Continous development of youngster - PLEASE let it not be yet another season of disappointment.

Geez that hurt writing, all those memories, we've suffered so much and I just absolutely can't wait for the day when a new sun rises, where we are constantly challenging, beating and thrashing sides. Let it be soon. Let it be NOW.

COME.
ON.
YOU.
BLUES.
!!!!!!!

I think we all need to be realistic. If we win 8 games this year, it would be an amazing result. I think 4-6 games is realistic

I just hope this year, our defence starts to develop - THAT IS THE KEY. with the talent we have, the rest will look after itself

Come on, I know you want to do well but thats a bit too optimistic isnt it

I would be aiming for 3 wins, 5 would be amazing

Seriously though I would be very dissapointed if we didnt make the 8. We should be aiming for top 4.

Name a team that we cant beat apart from Geelong and even Geelong shouldnt be as good as last year.

Whats the point of following a team if you only want to win 8 games for the season?
