I'm the opposite.
We don't want more older guys in the middle choking up the minutes for Harry, Berry, Pedlar etc.

Wingard as a classy small forward in the twilight of his career is an instant upgrade on Rowe and Murphy.

I want some class rolling through there so we get a better idea of what we've got up forward. Who knows how good or bad our forwards/defenders are given the blue collar mids that apply no defensive spread they are stuck with.

Not suggesting Finlayson would be a top 10 player for anyone, but this criticism is unfair

Their midfield was smashed in the GF. Not the easiest game to play 3rd tall forward.

He kicked 3, 2 and 2 goals in their first three finals and was pretty good.
Yep. It's almost always forwards who are maligned because it's the hardest role.

Finlayson reminds me a bit of Cale Hooker (not in terms of playing style) in that he was a defender who was sent forward due to need, was reasonable in the role and found a niche there. But it's not necessarily their best/most natural position.

I think Port will use Finlayson as a defender or move someone else back. McKenzie standing Naughton was embarrassing on Saturday night. Jonas struggles against bigger opponents and the Bulldogs showed Allir can be exposed.

Anyone hear Rozee's interview? Interesting slip at one point where he said Melbourne were just too good, not Bulldogs, sums their attitude up.
Yep. Not sure all the players thought winning the PF was a formality, but Port supporters and certain w***er media hacks mostly did. Kochead certainly did. Busted his testicles trying to get to the GF.

Because this came from Williams so she thought it must be "credible" although insane, I think he did a big dosey on her.
Any good journo should have at least 2 sources or investigate the allegations not just regurgitate random gossip

This is the trouble with journos like McClure et al
They raid gossip from on line forums etc - and run with it.
And occasionally, like the sun shining on a dogs arse, they get it right
Gives them credibility for their next “stories” - exactly like the Wilson episode with Williams

Not many of the moves they make seem to make any sense.

Bringing in Ryder after they had signed Matthew Lobbe on a five year deal
Bringing in an inside mid (Rockliff) when they already had Wines.
Bringing in Fantasia when they already had Rozee.

They just bring guys in solely on their name and not need.

It's almost like they need to have a shiny new toy to sell the supporters each year in order to keep the membership sales up.
Then traded Lobbe for chump change to the Bulldogs and had to pay a majority of his salary and then recruited Lycett who had at least 5 more years left and tried to argue he would be a perfect fit to allow Ryder to play more forward when history show he couldn't at Essendon.

Then ended up trading Ryder (who they hailed the 2nd missing link???) to the Saints for chump change which meant they couldn't play a developing Hayes since Lycett will be their ruckman for a while, probably why they didn't play Hayes when Lycett was suspended for 4 weeks this year as this would have shown this stuff up.....and now their supporters want to trade Lycett rather than Hayes.

It'll be fascinating to see what North do with Ben Edwards, seeing he was supposed to be a first round talent in this draft.

It's the non-negotiable plan b, like tackling. If you don't win possession of the ball yourself then you tackle. If you're Charlie, your job is to get separation and take marks, if you can't then plan b is to bring it to ground. Any coaches pushing plan b ahead of plan a shouldn't be at AFL level.
Love to see someone try to tell a player like say, Aaron Naughton that !
Dixon is a big lumbering oaf

Bringing the ball to the ground is about all he’s good for
Had an argument about Dixon and his marks stat on the bay
Only time he does mark the ball is when he’s playing up the ground

Does not do any damage
