Who actually goes out when we discuss the upgrading of the current best 22?

Easy enough to suggest we need 'player x' but we obviously need to drop someone from the AFL side to do so.
Cutler, Durham, Gleeson, Snelling, Guelfi

If we add, as an example, Parker & Chol.

Ridley Stewart Laverde
Hind Francis Redman
Merrett Shiel McGrath
Perkins Jones Parker
Chol Wright Tippa
Draper Stringer Parish
Cox Caldwell Langford Snelling

Out of our late side: Smith, Cutler, Guelfi, Waterman, Gleeson, Durham
In: Parker, Chol, Langford, Cox, Tippa, Jones

Snelling would be one of the first picked

I've been thinking about this. Surely we can only carry one of Snelling or Devon into another finals series providing Tippa is fit and firing.

It's tricky because Snelling you know what you'll get. Devon can still be a match winner.

You dont really need to drop anyone from the best 22 to bring someone new into the club. You just need a list spot for them. I dont think ive seen Essendons best 22 play together since 2000. We are lacking small fwd/def depth, midfield depth and we still need some bigger bodies in the midfield doing the grunt/defensive work before we get to our next elimination final.

They play totally different roles so I’m not sure it’s relevant. Snelling goes and plays as an extra pressure midfielder (the Kane Lambert role) and often finds himself in the back 50 and is usually the guy covering for stringer. Smith is a pressure forward. Snelling also has a elite tank which allows him to run all over the ground while still having the ability to apply pressure.

As the list currently stands for me
Fb Hind Stewart Ridley

Hb Heppell Laverde Redman

C Durham Merrett Shiel

Hf Snelling Jones Cox (genuine utility)

Ff Smith Wright Tippa

R Draper Parish Stringer

Ic Mcgrath Perkins Caldwell Francis/ 2nd ruck (Bryan/ chol?).

sub Guelfi

Granted our best 22 looks ok for now, does the growth come internally? Understandble guys like Perkins, Cox, etc. etc. will grow andmature and therefore shoot up our list (ranking) but in the end, we still ideally need to upgrade our bottom handful from the game on the weekend.

Is one of those Heppell's supposed to be Redman?

You forgot Heppell. That’s easy fixed, out Francis and Ridley to CHB.

We'll get internal growth as well as adding quality through trade, free agency and draft again. Improving on the weekend final loss could come in the form of personel, coaching, and natural growth and games experience for a young side. We are in a pretty good spot list wise to improve without having to make drastic changes.

So I am assuming Johnson and Mozzie are gone (at least from main list)

Cutler I reckon gets another year.

Cahill, Gleeson and Clarke the ones I have no idea about.

Things have gone a bit quiet here. I thought there might have been some announcements on list decisions following our seasons' end.
Thought the same. Was expecting a week of announcements, one per day.

Got an email this morning from the club saying everyone in the footy department is now on leave, but I doubt Dodoro takes time off at this time of year haha, and neither do player managers.

I imagine there'll be a few players who will be waiting until after the trade period to find out if they get re-signed. Probably why it's a bit quiet now. Thought Cutler might have got done quickly given his finish to the season though.

Basically the recruiting department would still be active

Dodo never rests.

Also Durham and Laverde (who might have triggered an extension but it hasn't been confirmed either way). The others I can see it being a wait to re-sign or get moved to the rookie list or something.

I guess that means there aren't any definite delistings in the group either (e.g. Mozzie).

Or maybe they just don't want to do news on Mondays haha

Everything I’ve read suggests Durham signed an 18 month contract upon being drafted. I think mid-season players could nominate their contract lengths
