We aren't going to do that, we will build on top of what we have and hope some of our kids stop getting injured and turn into the guys we hoped when we picked em.

There would be nothing worse than finishing 10th next season with a very similar 22 that played this year.

I pray for Jones, Reid, Cox, Tsatas, Davey and Baldwin to push in and play a lot, at a good AFL standard, if those blokes become best 22, finishing 10th is more than welcome.
My biggest hope is a revamp to strength and conditioning this offseason (culture shift sure....there's tangibles to that but it needs to develop and be organic) - we need our kids on the park so that at he end of the year pundits are looking at our under 23's as a group that can carry us forward

The strength and conditioning stuff is an age old problem that never seems to be resolved no matter who we bring in.

Brad Scott brought in someone or other to consult(?) who used to work at Essendon a few years ago, supposed to be the best in the business. Didn't fix the problem.

I think the AFL lifestyles thing might have something to do with it. I wonder if back injuries are common in golf...

Agree, need to add to the Martin, Caldwell, Hobbs, Durham, Tsatas, Perkins group. For mine that group compared to the talent other clubs have around that age isn’t a differentiator yet.

It’s a tough one, becuase it’s not something that can be changed in one year. You need at least 2+ years of stability to see the needle move. I think that’s evident this year where we found that our list couldn’t keep up the intensity being asked of them post round 16

The back injuries are common in tall young KP talent who are required to put on weight quickly - we do love a tall skinny kid

All jokes aside, does the synthetic turf in the Hangar have something to do with our back injuries?

Do other sides have an issue ? we are not the only side to play there 9 or so times. I do not now the answer but if it is an issue then others sides like the Dogs / Saints / North would have issues as well.

When I look at the overall state of the list its a bit of a concern...We seem to have a preference for small sized mids - Merrett, Parish, & no big bulls (maybe Hobbs/Setterfield?), our key forwards Stringer & 2MP are inconsistent (Langford the exception) and it looks like we will be playing inexperienced and/or undersized defenders in 2024 - some mix of Baldwin, Lav or Weideman...

So for me given alll the above 2024 is all about balancing out the list and hopefully at least a few of our young key talls have big pre-seasons heading into 2024 - I'm talking about Jones, Cox, Reid & Hunter. This hopefully then translates into senior game time where a couple of them turn out to be what we hoped they'd be when we drafted them. if they don't and all continue to stagnate/get injured we could go backwards further in 2024...

My list of needs to improve the list:

1. Genuine down-the-line marking option so we have a plan B when the mids aren't finding space and the HBs can't break a line.
All the talls on our list have failed here.

2. Defensively minded blocking Mid so we can slow a game down when needed and assist our Mid assets, which are otherwise quality.
Setterfield has done OK here. But this is vital depth. Perkins is wasted here, and I only hope he was used because we had no one else.

3. Aggressively minded bollocking Mid as a point of difference to the current makeup.
Prime Stringer worked. Can't expect that anymore. It's not an easy spot to fill. Perkins is not this guy, unfortunately.

4. Either someone who can kick i50 or someone who can position i50. Probably both. I lost a lot of hair watching our delivery and conversions after thr bye.
This could be more system over personnel, but we must fix this.

5. Speed & kicking skills off half-back, so we have a line break option that won't turn it over.
The season started well, but we went back into our shell and got decimated. Maybe fitness and fatigue. Without a down the line option and no line breaking half backs we were rightfully smashed at the end of the season.
Hind disposal and inconsistencies let him down. Sinn is a young (injury prone) option being suggested. Williams?

6. Overall leadership. Everyone seems friendly, but nobody to look up to. Nobody yo steady the ship, guide the younger players with cool, calm authority.
I'm not sure who or if this is something that needs to come from developing within the club. Until we sort leadership out, we will be an average team regardless of the talent on the list.

These are the biggest holes for mine. I'm probably in the minority that thinks the key backs aren't the major issue. Midfield pressure, positioning, and leadership for mine. And better options for exiting d50 so it doesn't bounce straight back in.

No more talls who can't mark thank-you. No more smalls who are single paced, poor kicking accumulators and one way runners. Once the club starts putting a line through prospective players with the above deficiencies as other clubs do we will move forward finally.

So a new side then :p
Could not disagree with any of it.

Is it too much to ask [emoji38]
Seriously though, we have some good assets, but we have a long way to building a solid, consistent, finals worthy team.
People should be looking at next year for the pieces that will help build the team we field in three years.

Mate, Milan look great. Focus there. You're not going to be happy next season.

Loving it. Love what we're building.

And fwiw Milan were in a dark hole for a while there, employed the right leadership in team management and admin, Maldini and Gazidis along with owners Elliot, they changed the culture and trajectory of the club.

Scott and Vozzo have their work cut out, I pray they get it right.

I checked out for ages and only got back into it recently.

I do not agree with the clash of ego between Cardinale and Maldini or that Maldini or Tonali had to go.

It's funny what happens when the purse strings are loosened at the start of the Mercato instead of 6 weeks into it.

let me introduce you to Ben McKay and Jade Gresham. This should help fix some things

Turns out Ben McKay is one of the better contested marks in the league 🤔

Yeah sad end with Maldini and Tonali was my favourite player but I can't fault the signings we made from his sale. Exciting times.
