As part of the continuing 'blackout' of Australian Rules Football by Channel Seven in NSW and Qld, they have stopped screening Talking Footy on a Monday evening.

It used to be on around 11.30 pm and I would normally tape it and watch it on Tuesday evening, but now Channel Seven, in its continuing effort to soften up its audience for the coming deluge of Rugby Union, Basketball, Track and Field and Soccer, has decoded not to telecvast the show into NSW at all.

So we don't get Talking Footy in Sydney anymore, not at all.

The point is - Am I really missing out on this ?

Just reading your comments on Carloline Wilson, Robert Walls, Special Bruce etc etc - it sounds like the show has gone to the dogs a bit.

Am I right ?

Is it still as interesting as it used to be ?

Are you guys turning off in droves ?

Am I really missing anything ?

cheers

I had a friend (yes a Victorian friend no less) tape for me. He came up to Canberra Wednesday afternoon and we sat down and watched it. The two most interesting commentators (Blight & Matthews) have long gone, and the show suffers for it. The new faces they bought in this year are even worse than last years, and even Bruce appears to be losing a bit of interest.

BSA,

I used to love watching it, but in all honesty, if Tuesday's show was anything to go by, i reckon it could get axed by mid-season. No chemistry between 'em, biased views, boring as hell.... Mick Malthouse was probably the most interesting part of the show!

The show was a lot better last year, with Mike especially, although I do like Bruce replacing Gerard. I'll still be watching though.... no matter how crap it gets.

It's about time the commentators stopped being one-eyed as to who they support and start being neutral commentators.

Caro calling Demon supporters "pompous" is an absolute disgrace (even if she is right)!

USC did apologise on 3AW the next night for the "pompous" tag. Not sure why! I didn't watch it but heard there was footage of a Geelong player (Milburn?) who pushed an umpire away! Not sure how bad it was but, after what happened to Boomer,I would have thought ANY contact would have constituted a reportable offence. Anyone see it?

Groucho,

I'm suprised no-one has mentioned this before. There was CLEAR footage and it showed Milburn AND Cousins both grabbing the umpire. The players were 'forceful' .... clear cut footage was available..... a precedent (Harvey 'tap on the shoulder') was in place..... and nothing more is said of it. Pathetic!

Judging from the efforts of USC and Healy on radio, I haven't bothered to watch Talking Footy. The main strength of the show was that they brought new insights into the game and the people involved. But judging from what I've heard from these people on radio, well, it was always going to be in the shadow of previous years.

Thanks Westy. Sounds incredible that nothing more came out of it the way you describe it. Just makes me seethe even more over what happened to Harvey!

I taped it and watched it Wednesday morning. Funny to hear the theme say "Tuesday night, we're Talking Footy" after it being on Monday nights for a few years.

Caroline was better than I expected, she asked Mick Malthouse some really good questions and he answered them quite well. From an Eagles perspective it's always interesting to hear what Micks saying and doing back home in the east.

Wasn't the main problem with Harveys report was that there was no footage ?
The Milburn touch was nothing and I think Cousins got pushed into the umpire.
If players were reported for touching the Ump ,Craig Bradley would be suspended every few weeks.

According to reports, the Brent Harvey incident was nothing either, JUBJUB.... much the same as Milburns.

And I think that the fact that there was no footage makes that suspension even more frivolous. It was the umpires word against the players.... who's version of events are the tribunal going to hold more credence to? The thing that came out of the Harvey incident was that players are not to touch the umpires under any circumstances.... yet only a couple of weeks later when there is undisputable evidence that players have touched/knocked the umpires.... no inquiry ... no nothing! I can understand exactly why the roos supporters must be pissed off.

All everyone wants to see is a little consistency.... either suspend them all... or let them all pass by. Funny how USC didn't make mention of it in regards to the Harvey incident on Tuesday night either....
