Geez, just 24 months ago, I was pretty confident of DeGoey, Elliot, Cox, Mihocek, WHE & Stevo kicking us a winning score most weeks and putting us close to a flag over the next season or two! More like despair on just how we are going to kick goals at all these days.

It may work again. The footy dept might argue that 195cm forwards are a thing of the past. Either that, or that drafting tall players is a thing of the past.

The question is whether if tall forwards are so unimportant to the footy dept, that it tries to "scam" a tall players by overseas drafting and trades.

I wish someone would argue buckley this question in one of his meet the fans thingies.

It was
I was implying the memory of a high pick
Hine worked with Judkins
Scars might run deeper than we think
Haven't stretched our neck out really since
I would put more stock in Hine taking Reid and Brown back to back and winning a flag with them, than Judkins taking Morrison and it being a failure, in terms of the likely impact it has on Hine’s decision making 17 years later.

thats true....maybe we should just push on with the current recruiting strategy.

Hines deffinitely had a change of tune on recruiting kpp since his early days when he took Reid, Brown, Dawes and Anthony.

This is an interesting thread, the opportunity has identified the elephant in the room. No one has identified the why.

Ok, some recent history circa 2012. At the end of that year it was clear that a regeneration was on Buckley mind, so was game style. So Dekka and crew targeted players to build around a grunt style team. That was clear, my guess is the vision of Buckley game was not personnel reliant- hence our elephant. Almost pulled it off 2018 and now it seems that style is invalid. Still if we have better de i50 it will improve, would much more so if we had a jk or lynch in there instead of cox

Be interesting to see if the panel and Buckley can adapt change , watch this space 2021.

I was watching the buckley press conference and he said quite a few words about tall forwards. He doesn't rate them too much. However, he then said that he would have played kelly all year and then mentioned guys like lynch and dixon who did a great job for other teams and mentioned cox doing a similar role. It was like he doesnt rate them but he rates them when they're good.....I'd love to give him a follow up question about whether it was even worth trying to draft a tall forward.

He also mentioned the need for more midfield etc etc ....and said we had enough defenders. Thank god he said that..

I still have to say that I think we should through a few lower draft picks at tall forwards or even try to rookie a mature age tall...but buckley obviously knows more than me
