See, Roughhead is a biased pick as well.

Rusling?

Polo is well above them....

At the moment:

1. Brett Deledio
2. Ryan Griffen
3. Lance Franklin
4. Justin Sherman
5. Dean Polo
6. Angus Monfries
7. Jordan Lewis
8. Matthew Bate
9. Nathan Van Berlo
10. Richard Tambling.

Instead of criticising Tambling, have a look at last years stats - forget about his first year, it was a write off because of injuries, if he hadn't played at all that year he would of had a better reputation. This is a kid that gets his possessions, presents well, kicks goals and takes them on, he has areas he needs to work on like all 20 year old kids (Judd excluded) but my god, he's a kid..... He has shown in the pre season that he has what it takes to work hard by putting on significant size to his frame, and I know in the regular season we will see Richie flying.

On my list here is my argument for the first 6:

Out of all the players listed, none has done more than Brett Deledio, he has won a Rising Star, AFLPA Best First year player, has continually got his possessions despite being either the number one or number two tagged player at Richmond. When he was given his freedom playing the same role as Griffen, he proved his class and was our most damaging player. This kid as the Richmond list grows will be the leader. Thats saying something.

Ryan Griffen has shown outstanding class, skill and poise in his short career and looks set for an outstanding career at the bulldogs. Nothing stopping this kid being an absolute elite player. Lance Franklin has shown flashes of utter brilliance, and when he's on, he's hot to trot. Will never be a big possession winner but will always be damaging if allowed to be. Justin Sherman is the new midfield hope of the Lions, a great achievement from a latish draft pick. He's exciting, quick and his confidence inspires the Lions, has already become a leader, like Deledio thats saying something. Dean Polo goes about his work with no nonsense, hence why I beleive he is underrated. His outstanding debut game of 29 possessions and 3 goals was a glimps as to what he can achieve, he brings others into the game and is a tough nut that runs all day. Angus Monfries is already a cult like hero for Bomber fans and this slight kid is a tough hombre! Has skill, determination, the next step is to be put into the midfield and he could be a beauty.

We can debate all we like about whether tambling was a waste of a pick or not.

What is beyond debate is that there are very few Richmond supporters who didnt expect more out of Tambling by now.

I think you need to open the other eye W. Smithers! HOW IS ROUGHEAD a biased pick???
442 possessions, and 174 marks in 36 games? No, that can't be top 10 in that draft can it:rolleyes:

-------------------Pl--Kicks--H-balls--Marks--Poss
38 Roughead, J. ---36 --255 ---187 --- 174 --- 442

i reckon roughead is better forward hence the hawks going out for thornton because they see this aswell

tambling has talent i just think the club dont know if he is a leading forward or a midfielder or what the hell they are doing

Being a Hawks man when that draft came around i kinda hoped we got Tambling at number 2 and Buddy at 5.... Im so happy we got Roughie as we needed KPP like toast needs butter. But if i was a Richmond supporter i would be happy with Tambling, the aboriginal players seem to take a little bit longer to adjust, look at Wells could be a world beater but isn't yet but mayb he should be. Tambling will be good in my opinion how good will depend on Richmond, needs more time in the middle i reckon!

I can't believe it. A Hawthorn supporter not bagging Tambling.
It is good to see someone with a bit of sense out there, unlike most of the morons on bay 13.

I tend to agree.

Imagine our team with:

-Franklin instead of Tambling
-Monfries instead of Meyer
-Jones (from Melb) instead of JON

Not prepared to write off Tambling and Meyer yet but if they dont show vast improvement this year, then it is open season on them.

wasnt monfries a top ten pick and meyer at 12? i may be wrong - if so, we really should have gone monfries as he has always looked clearly better to me

AVG: 12 disposals - 4.8 marks

In todays high possession game, that's not acceptable.

Dean Polo: 15.3 disposals - 6.4 marks in 17 games.

Rusling?

Judge Tambling when or if we make the finals. Base the judgement on how he contributes to the side then. I bet if he was in a top 4 team then every Richmond supporter would want him because he would be getting looked after, not having to bend over and pick the pill up everytime he gets it kicked too him. Id rather go to war than play on Richmonds half forward line. The disposal is ********e to the whole forward line. Put him on a wing and let him do his own thing. Terry wallace wouldn't pick a player in the draft based on hype alone. Richmond know what they got when they picked Tambling.

Just keep in mind Cooney and Hodge folks. This sort of diatribe was cracking on about them after two years as well, now look at them.

:) MAN, I love your posts, Turtle!

Can't really say I take in many of the words or read them at all.

Just does things for me seeing Catherine Bell pop up continually popping up on my screen!!!

You the Man!!!

One of the reasons Richmond took Tambling over Franklin was attitude, we needed to build some culture down at Tigerland, the skinny players will need a year or 2 more than the already built juniors. Just have some patience Tambling will be alright.

attitude is overrated imo

you cant tell me jack is any lessy arrogant/confident than franklin so what was wrong with getting him nothing was so who cares

Spot on, the draft before Deledio/Tambling - Cooney, Walker, Sylvia and Ray were the first four draft picks. None of them have set the world on fire yet. Last year was their 3rd year, Cooney was good, Ray was alright, Sylvia serviceable at best and Walker was pretty much crap.

I should mention McLean was pick 5 that year, and he is clearly the best of the lot so far IMO.

Patience fella's, they've played 30-40 games and we're expecting brownlows already. Franklins an abbo too isnt he... and although it hasnt been that widely published... he's a trouble maker and wait for him to go missing.

It will be a blessing in disguise we didnt pick him up.
You disgust me.:thumbsd:

Urrrmmmmm, Roughead is a KPP (defender until this season) and Polo is a run with player or HBF???

TRUCE FFS!!!

deledio is a gun
Roughhead will be a solid consistent player
Buddy will be a match winner
Tambling was the best available option at the time, hasnt shown his worth yet but is stil young and aboriginals of that size generally take a litle longer to develop. If he doesnt improve which is highly unlikely given how young he is, then lets talk then. Just stop all of this crap!
Polo is also a solid consistent contributor and should rack up more possies then roughhead due to possie.
Birchall is a gun
Ellis will be a gun
Muston and Dowler also have big wraps.

Both clubs have excting youngsters please lets all stop comparing them! more likely then not they will all be great for their respective clubs.

First real piece of sense I've seen on this thread.
Rivallry is healthy. Obsession (on anyone's part) is abnormal.

BOG or not, it's pleasing to read he did well. Hopefully building nicely..
I couldn't give a flying ******** if he fumbles every ball of the pre-season as long as he's ready to go come rnd 1.:thumbsu:

i think most people were happy with tambling and deledio. like hawthorn we needed kpp like toast needs butter. unlike hawthorn we did nothing about it.
what we did do was take the best player available in deledio. and then proceeded to ignore list needs by not taking kpp in franklin or taking big bodied more inside than outside onballers with pace and good skills.
deledio franklin monfries wood and polo would have been an excellent draft for us. instead we took players who were skinny more outside than inside and with serios deficiencies. we have continued to do so in the main the following 2 drafts.
