Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer passed away Wednesday at the age of 85.

He just celebrated his 85th birthday on Monday. Glazer purchased the Bucs in January of 1995 and had served as the president of the team up until his death. He also owns the English Premier League's Manchester United. Glazer's Bucs won one Super Bowl under his ownership, defeating the Raiders in Super Bowl 37. Manchester United is one of the most popular soccer clubs on the planet. Glazer has three sons, who serve as co-chairmen with the Bucs.

Finally a trade that we win IMO :)

Still talk of Incognito finding his way into RJS. Not sure if that would be great or disaster!

Good work Bucs!

Lawrence Tynes suing Bucs over career-ending MRSA infection

Lawrence Tynes has not kicked in an NFL game since contracting a virulent staph infection while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.

Now Tynes is suing the Buccaneers seeking damages for his ordeal.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Tynes is alleging the Buccaneers handling of his situation has “ended his career and cost him over $20 million in expected future earnings.”

Tynes – along with guard Carl Nicks and cornerback Johnthan Banks – contracted Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureas, otherwise known as MRSA, in 2013. Nicks and Tynes have had their careers ended for all intents and purposes due to the ailments. Banks has been able to resume his career and started 30 games over the last two years for the Buccaneers.

Tynes signed with the Bucs after six years with the New York Giants. He contracted the infection during training camp and has not kicked in the NFL since.

Tynes was critical of Tampa Bay’s handling of the matter at the time after they placed him on the non-football injury list instead of injured reserve, which denied him some benefits he believed he deserved. The non-football injury list also meant the Buccaneers believed the issue arose outside of the team’s facility and was not contracted through his normal football activities.

From pft

the Buccaneers have never given a second contract to any quarterback they drafted.

That list includes, working backward, Mike Glennon, Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson, Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms, Joe Hamilton, Shaun King, Trent Dilfer, Craig Erickson, Mike Pawlawski, Pat O’Hara, Vinny Testaverde, Mike Shula, Blair Kiel, Steve Young, Mike Ford, Chuck Fusina, Doug Williams, Randy Hedberg, and Parnell Dickinson.

That’s 20 quarterbacks in 39 drafts.

Bobby Bowden: Jamies Winston “an embarrassment” to FSU

Jameis Winston didn’t have to go far to continue his football career.

But there are some in the Sunshine State who might have preferred to see the former Florida State quarterback a little farther away from Tallahassee.

Former FSU coach Bobby Bowden left a crater the size of Raymond James Stadium Tuesday, saying a lot of people at his old school were glad to be rid of Winston.

“I think it’s a consensus among FSU fans and boosters that he was an embarrassment to the University,” Bowden told SiriusXM/SEC Network personality Paul Finebaum.

Winston was no stranger to controversy and trouble while at Florida State, from the sexual assault investigations to problems more benign.

But he was also extremely lucrative for the school, helping them to a national championship, winning a Heisman Trophy and bringing in loads of more positive exposure for an institution which wasn’t exactly, you know, sharing the wealth with the help.

Still, if someone of the stature of Bowden is willing to admit it on national radio, then you know plenty of people feel that way.

And that has to leave the Buccaneers feeling a little nervous as well.

Bowden: (laughing) Well, I think it's a consensus among Florid State fans, and boosters that he was an embarrassment in a lot of ways to the university (emphasis mine). He won a lot of ball games, probably one of the best football players that ever attended Florida State, but he hurt himself off the field. The good news is that he's young enough to get over that, ya know it, and he's gotta do that. He just can't make those junior high school decisions that he made while he was in college.

Another team that should of traded down with such a lucrative bargaining chip of #1 pick. With a horrible O-line.. they grab a QB to be thrown to the wolves?? Are you kidding me?? sorry that's a bad mistake and they'll realise how much of a setback this strategy will be.... not going anywhere fast.

The more I read and see, the more I LOVE the pick.

Why trade down if a suitable offer does't present?

That's the option of reading into offers.. reality says that another Round 1 pick with additional picks in either rounds 1 / 2 /3 whether it be 2015 or 2016 has to be better than just the one pick at #1. The Redskins decision to sell the farm to the Rams to move up to secure RG3 hasn't paid off… they failed to return to the post-season.. injuries plaguing RG3 progress. Does Tampa have stability on the OT to protect their #1 pick / franchise selection?

The Buccaneers have found their first issue with quarterback Jameis Winston, already running into something he struggles with.

We have to kind of tell him when to leave,” Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith said, via Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.

That’s not a bad problem to have for any rookie, much less the first overall pick in the draft. While he wasn’t at Thursday’s practice because of the NFLPA Rookie Premiere event in Los Angeles, getting in enough work hasn’t been an issue.

Smith said he took double reps Wednesday to make up for the absence, and it was his best day of work so far (or perhaps since his marathon pro day workout prior to the draft).

“For him, there’s been a lot of individual work, but having a chance this week to go against our best defense and things like that [has been good],” Smith said. “We have a long ways to go. But we like where he is right now.”

Likewise, teammates have praised Winston for his work, and for always having his playbook on him, and being ready for whatever they throw at him, which has been a lot.

“He didn’t have his training wheels on or anything like that,” Smith said. “We’re kind of throwing him out there and he’s handling just about everything we’ve asked him to do.”

That’s a good sign for the Bucs, but a better sign for Winston, whose maturity many (reasonably) wondered about based on some of his college actions.

Buccaneers agreed to terms with WLB Lavonte David on a five-year, $50.25 million extension through 2020.

The deal contains $25.56 million guaranteed, bringing David under Bucs control through his age-30 season. The new Lance Briggs in Lovie Smith's Tampa 2 defense, David has piled up 130-plus tackles in each of his first three NFL seasons, adding ten sacks, six forced fumbles, and 19 pass breakups. Although David is limited in stature (6'1/233), he plays sideline to sideline and is a three-down 'backer, playing every single snap in Tampa Bay's defense when healthy. David is a long-term LB1 in IDP leagues and the LB1 overall in Rotoworld IDP maven Ross Miles' 2015 re-draft rankings.

Appearing on NFL Network Tuesday afternoon, Mike Mayock said the Bucs are "excited that we’re going to see the Doug Martin of 2012."

"Apparently Doug Martin looks fantastic," Mayock said. His words come three days after the Tampa Tribune reported Martin looks "leaner and quicker." Martin entered the offseason with a tenuous grip on No. 1 duties, but has separated himself from 2014 coaching-staff darling Charles Sims. He needs a strong preseason to solidify himself at the top of the depth chart, but Martin is putting himself back in the (low-end) RB2 conversation.
