Tanner Smith was never at any stage a likely solution for our key forward issues. the idea that delisting him would have any bearing on our list management strategy is nuts really. Tanner didn't make our forward lie amazingly better and he didn't play amazingly well. He played ok and the team had a good game in one of his games this year.

I feel sorry for the guy and if it wasn't for the hammies I'd have no problem keeping him but his effect on our club while on the list has been very very minimal.

No doubt the same with Morabito. 6 years on list, finally gets injury free and de-list.
Menagola. Keep for 3 years, don't even give him a chance to play in the big time. De-list.

Maybe Tanner can go have a barbie with Viv Michie and they can talk about how Freo would have won the 2017 premiership if only they were kept on the list?

Not quite sure how your sarcasm actually relates to the point that we seem to make some puzzling decisions in terms of letting players take up a spot on the list without every utilising them and then get rid of them when it seems they could actually contribute.
Michie is still playing AFL as is Menagola. Fail to see how they could have been any worse than Suban or Mayne or other golden ticket holders in the Freo squad.

So working on this theory Appness very lucky to get new contract, Silvagni gone, grey gone, Alex p would be border line, Johnson gone.

I don't understand it we are either in a rebuilt or not tanner should've been given an extra year 196cm 100 plus kilo 22 years old and showed a bit, could've been developed into a forward ruck type player.:'(

I agree with others, Tanner's delisting, leaving only Tabs and Apeness as KPFs, brings Marshall in to the mix for our first pick. I wouldn't be that upset if we picked him.
I agree. Its not right having just tabs and apeness as our only key forwards. I for one thought smith should of got one more year.

It seems brisbane will get a priority pick and get sps. We are destined to get marshall then mccarthy by trade.

Michie is bog average and there was an outcry when he wasn't played by us and when we traded him. Menagola can be a hardnut with Selwood and Danger around and with Mitch Duncan and the like cruising past. We would have had to drop someone like Barlow to give Menagola games and then the melt would have been worse.

I want everyone earning their place on the list and if they have had a chance to develop (like these guys have) and it is apparent that they aren't going to be game changers for our list and we are rebuilding then they need to go.

We could just as easily have dropped someone like Suban to play Menagola, as least the latter has shown he knows how to find the footy, Suban still barely touches it 8 years in. How does it makes sense not to have even given him a chance when we've had other list cloggers hardly setting the world on fire for years?

And in terms of of players that haven't developed, yes I agree but Smith after being a waste of space for years was something of a revelation as a strong forward when given the chance and given we aren't exactly overflowing with big guys down there who can compete and bring the ball to ground its strange in terms of timing which is all I'm really saying about letting players go just when it seems we could use them.
Its possible of course that his medical prognosis is poor in which case its understandable but we don't know that.

I'm sad at this one because he'd just started to show some signs of being a good talent, it's just a shame his body's not up to it. The delist was warranted based on his inability to get on the park. That and his haircut.

Well I'll be damned, bit of a surprise this one. The sad reality is his body didn't hold up but at least he got a go.

I hope the list managers know what they're doing, I truly do.

Had he not torn his hammy twice (the second one sounds very severe, off tendon), I think we probably would have persisted with him. He showed enough, and considering our lack of tall options, he would have made handy depth in the right age group. Quite likely that last injury was a potential career-ending one, particularly if it is on the same leg (I don't know this for a fact, was it).

Very sad for Tanner, never really had a chance to have a good run at it, but looked good when he finally cracked a game this year.

I think is the haircut that got him delisted , should had go to ross usual place to had his hair cut :D

Why was Smith developed as a forward & not continued as a defender?
You have got to feel for guys that are restricted by constant injury.

He was moved forward as more of a permanent fixture last season but trained both forward and back. He has played mostly back in his first two years at Peel.

No doubt injury has prevented him from showing his true ability

He showed more as a forward then he did as a defender imo, kicking was too suspect out of the backline and his agility is more useful as a tall forward

Body just wasn't up to the rigours of WAFL let alone AFL

Constant soft tissue injuries are somewhat the effect of putting on to much weight to fast.

Did I read correctly that he tore his hammy off the tendon....or bone?
Sounds pretry bad either way

Its very sad to see the young fellas not cut it especially when theres significant injuries involved.

Its a little sad with forums as theres always abit of arrogance around, especially considering none of us have probably been close to being able to embarrass ourselves at an elite level of AFL let alone do a Fyfie.

Good luck to the young fella!

Hope he stays in WA and signs up with WP. He's a very good WAFL player and with the lighter training/fitness regime he'll star ala Brock OBrien, Andrew Browne, Andrew Foster, etc, etc...
After Soufs mauled West Perth the Munchers need someone like Tanner

It is the haircut. It's all about the haircut

If it was about the haircut then that probably explains why we were down the bottom
- apart from Neale the midfield had all had either forgotten what a barber was for or tried to do it themselves (Thinking Mundy, Blakely, Weller, Fyfe, Hill, Pearce - the horror of it all!)
