Tapscott?

Make that 16 kicks, 7 marks & a tackle- was a very strong game from him, no question.

Great debut by Tapscott, loved his hit on Rhys Shaw, can't stand that muppet, great kick on showed too:thumbsu:

Too bad he was injured all of last year
He had a ready body, and at the draft I said he'd be the Rich of 2010.

Will start good, and give you great hope this season, but he doesn't have the largest room for improvement, and might just end up a good player. Not great.

Great first game. Everyone talks about kicking a goal with your first kick of AFL footy. But taking a kick out in todays zone induced high pressure game is much more impressive. Even if he did cheat and just kick the bloody thing over the whole zone :p.

He did seem to lack pace/stamina at stages today. Understanding though. Will take a bit of time to read the play like a defender.

Why?

Rich had a stationary year last year, but during the pre-season and first round has improved quite significantly.

What is your basis for your prediction you _____tard??

My guess is that you believe most w***ers on these types of forums and that anyone entering the AFL with a mature body cant improve...

Rooster!!

pathetic, gutless and unnecesary.

Looking forward to your red card. This is insipid. My apologies, on behalf of the Melbourne bf contingent, to the Crow poster.

I think I have a new favourite player.

Awesome kicking skills. A lot of players can kick 55-60m in this day and age, but not many have the ability to spear the ball the way Tappy does. His kicks go from point A to point B in rapid time, which is crucial to good ball movement.

I was also impressed with his attack on the footy, that hit on Shaw was epic.

It's early days but gee I'd be surprised if he doesn't become a cult figure at the Dees.

Ever since i read about him after the 09 draft (a unit with biff and a booming kick) i was excited, just two basic things in a player that i enjoy when watching footy. Debut was even better than i expected :thumbsu: glad that only Blease and Cook remain to debut now out of the players drafted under pick 20.

Excellent debut. I am going to really enjoy watching this kid play in the future. In fact, I think he has cemented himself a spot in the side for the next few weeks at least.

Great to see a debutant show more courage and physicality than most of our other players.

Ram Man played a great first game!

Hes got a great hoof on him - just what we need in our backline.

Just one that clip from SC, the other thing we need is for Watts to hit packs like that with force. He looked a bit tentative at the back there.. I think we are still a year or 2 away with Watts unfortunately.

It took me 20 minutes to find on my recording but I got what I wanted:

Apologies for it only being camera-phone quality, I cbf transferring the recording from the PVR to the PC and doing it properly.

Not bad to dispose of Kieren Jack (terrific tackler with a rugby league background) so easily.

Heppell got the nod for rising star but I guess for round one they take into acount pre season form.

Who knows?

I'm sure he will get the nomination next week if he can back up his form.

I didn't see Heppell's game, but it must have been amazing. Tappscott's game was one of the best debut's for the Dees I have seen in a very long time. The future is bright for this kid. And seriously, who really cares about the Rising Star Award anyway? Couldn't care less if Tappscott didn't get the nomination this week. McKenzie didn't get nominated last year, and he was clearly better last season than all of our other 3 nominated players. Swallow's an absloute monty to win the thing anyway...

This kid can back up his build with sheer toughness, lets just leave him on a half back flank and let him smash those flashy forwards, and to think that Cam Bruce the $600k man was there most of last season, hardly make you quake in your boots lining up on him.Havnt seen a more impressive debut for years, even when the heat was on at the end he wanted to be in the thick of the action. I have always said create a tough as nails half back line and then we will really go places, does anyone remember the Hawks of the 80s?:)

Mate I know what you mean about Watts hitting that pack but I think everyone is way to focus on it as it would of been an error for him to attack that pack.

1) He was too far away from the contest to actually get there, if he would of there he would of just hit some players.]
2) The purpose of hitting the pack is to cause a contest and the ball to spill out the back and out forward to run onto the ball heading towards goal (we have done this a number of times and is a set play)
3) The ball split to the back of the pack without him hitting the contest so if he had of tried he would of end up on the ground out of the next contest
4) As the quickest player at the club you would want him on his feet moving towards the next contest.

Overall everyone is so concerned about lack of physicality and jumping onto the packs that they don't realise what the players are trying to do and sometimes that is keep themselves in the contest to effect the play which is what the coaches want them to be doing.

Another posters commented that he is playing naturally and thats why he was holding up the kicks when he marked on the wing/chb... If they watched the game it had nothing to do with his thought process rather than his intructions from the coach.. when he was marking it there was no one behind him hence he had no options and had to hold on to the ball. MFC wants to play on at all costs but the game plan especailly with the forward press means if the forward get the ball in the defence and their is no quick break the teams onholds onto the ball goes across the ground and tries to break the zone that way a little like soccer were the trusts are set up by the defence.

I was keen for us to take him, he looked great, wel done Melbourne.

BTW I think him missing last year can be a good thing, too many of these kids play way too early, he is now a complete unit and will do well this year. Hope you guys go ok.
