It's sad that we got a vocal minority of gamers who are sending death threats and abuse and that people assume that is how most gamers react. Also I hate to see how people will react once Virtual Reality becomes a big thing.

Just click onto the video games board on BF and there is an add for Target at the top of the screen lol. Gold

In a presentation at BMO Capital Markets 2014 Technology & Digital Media Conference today, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff was a little more animated with his reaction.

"It's one thing for someone to not want to buy a piece of content, which is completely understandable," Slatoff said. "And that's really the solution. If you don't like it and it's offensive to you, then you don't buy it. But for a person or a group of people to try to make that decision for millions of people... We have 34 million people who bought Grand Theft Auto, and if these folks had their way, none of those people would be able to buy Grand Theft Auto. And that really just flies in the face of everything that free society is based on. It's the freedom of expression, and to try to squelch that is a dangerous and slippery slope to go down. So it's really more disappointing for us in that regard than it is in the context of our business. Our business is going to be completely unaffected by this; it doesn't make a difference to us. At the end of the day though, it's not something you want because it's a poor leadership decision."

Slatoff said "the Australia situation is disappointing on many levels, " but noted that the publisher hasn't seen any such change in customer habits.

"Australia is relatively small for us, and two retailers are relatively small in the context of Australia," Slatoff said. "There are other places for folks to buy Grand Theft Auto in Australia."

kind of disagree. part of a 'free society' is that retailers are entitled to decide what products they wish to sell. if a certain product doesn't fit in with their 'brand' based on customer feedback, then fine.

i assume that the "if they had their way, no one would be able to buy GTA" is in reference intention of the petition group specifically which seems like an accurate comment. normally i'd say 'whatver, it's an internet petition' but i guess the potential problemis that if they are able to swing a couple of retailers to their cause, how many more signatures of mortgage belt, marginal seat mum's until some weak minded govt starts to care?

Isn't the power of speech scary?

These women make claims about the game which are blatantly false. Yes you can kill prostitutes after having sex with them and get your money back. But not once does the game encourage it or give you an option to kill. It is up to the gamer. Believe it or not, the game punishes you by sending police after you for breaking the law

If only these "heroes" spent as much effort cracking down on literature which is far more graphic and reaches a much wider audience than games do. We've all seen what words can do to people before.

Keep fighting the good fight though Nicole and friends. Your hyperbole about gamers becoming accepting of such violence is embarrassing and insulting to the majority of those who play this game and believe it or not have not hit a women or have become accepting of it!

Such a waste of time. Ask any police officer who deals with such violence and they would tell you it's not video games that are the reason domestic violence exists but rather a lack of education or alcohol or drugs or a combo of the three.

But of course making such efforts wouldn't go against their clear hatred of games that people enjoy.

Maybe these idiots should do some more research into domestic violence as well as censorship. Maybe they would like to go and live in China where they censor things?
