This will be the statement Tarrent will release during the week, I dont have any solid proof and am just going on here say of someone close to the dockers, so I will not say which family member, but it is someone very close to Tarrent and in his immediate family.

If it turns out to be true then Tarrants poor performances are clearly a direct result of this, no person in their right mind would be able to function properly in any occupation, let alone a high profile AFL footballer if they were in the situation I believe Tarrant to be in

People who have started these rumours that Taz wants to leave because he simply does not like Perth should really get their facts straight, Taz has gone on record saying he loves WA

But like i said once Chris releases this statement and discloses which family member it is, hopefully it will release a lot of pressure of of him in terms of the media and the football public in general. I was very critical of his first two games but once i found this out it clearly puts things into perspective, lets just hope it does the same for everyone, and we wish Taz and his family the best

Bollocks, people get sick and it's just a fact of life. Luke Webster's Dad passed away and he didn't need to release a statement making excuses for his poor form. The difference is that Luke Webster is an average footballer with a fantastic attitude and work ethic who is mentally strong, Tarrant is extremely talented but looks for excuses and is mentally fragile.

regarding medhurst i think he had to be traded and was never going to become the player he is now at fremantle. needed a change of scene for sure.

Amazing what a change of avatar and team can do for a person anti ;)

Have to agree with 100%. We all seem to have some pretty selective memories - Medhurst was in a worse position than Tarrant as far as form and media harrassment as it had been going on for so long. He was a broken man over here and had to get out to have any chance of reviving his career.

If Taz wants out due to a serious illness to someone very close to him, it's very understandable, and even more so given the continual abuse he cops and complete lack of support or understanding. Hopefully this will all be cleared up sooner rather than later and the club offers Taz whatever support he may need.

i was always like this, its just since i changed my details you see me as a different person and are more open to my opinion.

dont worry though, i still hate you guys.

With all due respect Dom (AKA Tarrant's biggest Hater ;)) when Luke gets the same profile as Tarrant or the people bagging the shit out of him at every opportunity, he might need to...if true.

If it is what's going on, then I don't think you can compare the situations dom. Webster's dad passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. He also lived in the same state. People also deal with things like this very differently. If Taz is at a point where he feels he can no longer contribute, then it is completely pointless for the club to make him stay here.

I think you're overstating the problems we had with Medhurst a tad.

And whatever the situation with Tarrant, it's clear the trade was terrible. It's well known that you've been a big supporter of the club's bungles, but this was another one in a long list.

I just hope that the club may have learned from it.

Comments like this that hurt the reputation of Freo supporters all over.
They dont compare Webster lives in the same state as his family, good supportnetwork, Tarrant doesnt.
Webster's Dad passed suddenly which dont make it better but you dont think about it before they go.

If it was Pav and someone in his family i bet you would support him no end.
How about we support everyone on our list and judge them on being human not on the size of their pay packet.

Well, I'm not sure which Medhurst it was that you were watching, but the one that I saw was broken. It's taken him a full season of being a nobody at Collingwood to work his confidence back up.

Tarrant had a pretty reasonable year last year given his lack of pre-season and he's had 2 average games so far this year (and been a long way off being on his own there) - hardly worth everyone getting as worked up about as they have.

Sorry if my support of the club upsets you, but it's no worse than people who refuse to support the club because they dislike certain individuals. I know there will be a number of so called Freo supporters with a smile on their face if Taz walks - just have a think about why you waste your time supporting the club if you're one of them.

Well said Brumbies.

That old chestnut. You're not sick of us trading away high picks (in good drafts) for players who don't want to play for us? As supporters, I think we have the right to expect our players to play as well for the club as much as we love the club.

We've made a number of trades for players who clearly do not have the passion.

I don't want him to walk, but I would like him to live up to what we gave away for him. He hasn't, and he may never do so. Unlike you, I don't think he's done enough to have automatic selection in the team, hence I would like to see him test himself in the WAFL.

I feel for Tarrant. It was a ridiculous situation to be placed in, especially for a player who relies so much on confidence to play well.

Not to mention his presence in the team has probably undermined the confidence of other players, such as Murphy. Overall, the trade brought no one benefit except our competition.

All the reasons for his trade have not eventuated.

Let me ask you, chook. If a trade like this came up again would you be for it? Or should we again repeat the mistakes of both the Croad and (most probably) the Tarrant trade?

Your response is an absolute disgrace, yes Luke Websters dad passed away and that is terribly sad as well, but you cannot compare the two, Luke Webster and Chris Tarrant are two completely different people, and Im not talkin about football here, who knows the type of relationship both have with their fathers, who knows how these two different situations would affect both players

I'm sure Tarrant isnt looking for an excuse, if he was he would have released this a lot earlier, hes under a lot of pressure to perform and so he should be, but the issue relating to a close family member having a sickness has nothing to do with football, I am as passionate as they come in terms of football fans and a freo fan, but unless your a complete moron you cannot say that football is not the most important thing in life, I know I'll probably get burnt for this but there is more important things in life than football and its time a few people grew up and realised that

I understand the motives behind both the Croad and Tarrant trades. Were they right, well, history tells us the Croad one went bad. At the moment, who knows with the Tarrant one. It's too early to tell.

How many great players have we drafted? Really? Pav is probably about it.

How many duds have we drafted? More than I care to remember.

I'm a Murphy fan, but there are too many willing to lay too much blame on the Tarrant trade and give him a soft out. If he really wants to be out there, he'll work hard enough to earn his spot, Tarrant or no Tarrant.

Would I do it again? Who can say? You'll never have the same scenario come up again. Would I do it this year? No. We are not in a position where we can recruit someone to solve a problem (we seem to have too many right now).

If Tarrant doesn't like being criticised he should try to get a kick Lach.

Fair enough but there are plenty of people who can't afford to go and see sick relatives living in different parts of the world and they have to get on with life and go to work. Champions of any sport would take inspiration and use it as motivation, not an excuse to throw their hands in the air and say it's all too hard.

People also deal with things like this very differently. If Taz is at a point where he feels he can no longer contribute, then it is completely pointless for the club to make him stay here.

That's a fair point, and if someone close to Chris is indeed seriously ill and he feels he can't contribute then he should go back to Melbourne. But it says a lot about his character and the incompetence of the people who lured him to the club, especially considering he never really wanted to come here in the first place.

Ofcourse footballs not the most important thing in life. But if the average Joe found out a family member was seriously ill then they'd have to continue working. Because he's a highly paid footballer you are making exceptions for him.

When Chris Tarrant signed a 4 year deal with the Fremantle Football Club he committed to giving his all to the club for four years. I doubt there would have been excuses X, Y and Z in the contract.

Gravy, you seem to be coming from the assumption that every trade will be a disaster...

I think it's a fair assumption that every trade where an unwilling player has to be talked into playing for us will be a disaster.

That's the thing where we'll never get an agreement though. You see it as an excuse, others think that the serious illness of an immedediate family member is a reason. I don't begrudge anyone wanting to spend time with a loved one if they have limited time left (if that's what all this is about)

So if Pav said tomorrow that his cousins got cancer and he's moving back to Adelaide and won't play footy again you'd accept that? I'd like to think that Pav is a proffessional, who may need a couple of weeks off, but would use that as inspiration when he runs out on the field for Fremantle.

It's all speculation at this stage, but if everyone who had a sick family member retired then there would be twice as many people on the pension than in the workforce.

For sure, if Tarrant wants to take a month or even to the split round off to spend with his family that's fine. But if he says that he's moving back to Melbourne and wants us to negotiate a trade at seasons end then that is extremely disappointing.

People like Tarrant are always looking for an excuse and nothings ever their fault. First it was the calves, which weren't an issue early but became a problem when his form dropped. Then he was disappointed with the version of the Darwin incident being reported, but like Chad Fletcher never actually came out and gave his version of events.

If Chris Tarrant is a professional I'm sure he'll be able to come to an agreement with the club that suits everyone.

Dom, sorry, Jeff, you seem to know everything about our Chris...

Casting a lot of aspersions here Dom, on little concrete info...
