i know people are talking of trading tarrant ,but why not move him to the midfield. He's fast and tall (193cm) and would be an awsome midfielder. He would also be a great target out of defence. This would free up buckley to play forward. Is tarrant fit enough though ? Will he run both ways ?

i like this idea he has a huge tank a big frame and speed his skills when trying to hit someone up rather then kicking for goal is very good i can't see why we wouldn't give him a crack....maybe it's his lack on the defensive side that would have a bit to do with it....i think with Rusling coming through it's a good opportunity to give him a crack if it doesn't work out we off load him next season it's not like we'd get much for him anyway really...we rate him alot higher then other teams do!

i like this idea, especially because it will be a tough match-up on him and he can push forwards for spells and cause miss-matches. I'd like to think he and rusling could become interchangeable- in that they both have stints in the middle because of their pace, and field skills and to keep mixing it up keeping opposition guessing and not become to predictable like recent times. Hopefully Taz is still around in 07- good feeling he should be.

Communism actually had better below the knee ability.
haha
He has actually become quite good at the below the knees gather and handball to an oncoming runner that the likes of Hall have trademarked, but his below the knee ability is above average for a KPP, but below that required for a midfielder. You need to be able to pry the hard ball out and hand ball cleanly. Josh Fraser can do this, I doubt Tarrant can.

In other words I doubt he can become an outsider and appear at the right contests, and I doubt whether he can become an inside midfielder.

Pavlich played in the midfield mainly as an inside midfielder because of his below the knees ability. Riewoldt has played at the wing because of his tank, and ability to run to the right spots.

Tarrant needs to look at Ryan O'keefe and get as fit as him and motivated. I believe Tarrant will head north though...

Malthouse was on SEN on THursday morning of last week and when asking about Tarrant he said we would like to see Tarrant at Collingwood in 2007 at Full Forward!!!

Malthouse will never move Tarrant out of the forward line, as much as we would like to see him moved around it just wont happen.

I think Collingwood will keep him too, unless West Coast (if the rumours are true) offer something big!

Fully agree - well almost anyway. He'd just have to tidy up his erratic disposal, learn to pick the ball up below his knees, develop his second and third efforts and learn how to make his tackles stick. Otherwise, he's already the complete midfielder.

Seriously, what have you been smoking?

I suspect Malthouse really sees Ruz playing FF, which is also why I suspect he's happy to let Tarrant go.

His disposal is fine, he tackles well and often racks up the tackles (for a key forward) and pressures defenders (this is one of the key parts of his games) and his 2nd and 3rd efforts are inconsistant. He is good in those areas as a key forward, but as a midfielder it's a different ball game, you have to do those all the time and learn to read the game differently.

The midfield is just a different animal to the forward line. The great Pavlich experiment told us that as handy as it is to have a 193cm guy almost 100kg play in the midfield, it's even more handy to have a force at CHF. Our friends at Freo also showed us that although a player may show alot of midfielder attributes and would be an asset in the midfield, it doesn't always work, look at Farmer. Davis can only be spared in the midfield for short bursts to give us a spark before his oponent gets on top of him. Even Didak has a way to go before he is primarily a midfielder, despite having played most of his junior footy there.

I'll come clean i'm a huge chris tarrant fan. I just think he needs to get thrown around a bit . When you play forward all the time you can get a bit stale. i just think a change will help.

no choof, i've had a couple of beers though:p

Could only see him playing on a wing if he moved to midfield. That way he would be a lead up target for guys out of defence and he could flaot forward to try and create a mismatch. Only worry is his defensive side when pushed up onto the ball.

But the suggestion of him looking at O'Keefe is the proper answer. He is best at covering a lot of ground and marking on the lead. He just has to get fit enough to do what O'Keefe does. Push back at times and then go back the other way into the forward line.

Go back to 2003 and Tarrant was the O'Keefe of the AFL - How many marks did he take that season?

Thats exactly what tarrant should be a ryan o'keefe player who van kick 30 goals for the year but runs hard to help link the backs up and forwards, he is not the typical Matthew lloyd or Barry hall player.

For Tarrant to move into the midfield he'd have to do a full preseason working on building his tank to a reasonable level. This however will never happen because of his well publicised shin problems. If Tarrant tries to do a full preseason, his shin problems will get worse and he'll end up missing games next year. Unfortuenately I think the time for Tarrant to move into the middle has passed and that he's a forward for good now. IMO the best we can hope for is that he will lead up onto the wings and be a linkman.

Gee why don't we play Tarrant FB and when he needs a rest put him in the ruck, much prefer to see him at the forward line so we have someone better to kick too
