Rubbish! He is a good kick at goal! He needs confidence!

Yeah, he and Jess Sinclair are two players I am disappointed at leaving Freo.
Jess has turned to be a solid contributer at with the roos. I am still glad when he does well. I remember when he tried to take Worsfold out. Gutsy.:)
GHD will get the same treatment. I wish him well and would like to think the anchor is still attached.

Glad to hear tarrant got a bit of a run on the weekend, a few more games under his belt will do him alot of good. I think he is going to have a great year for a change as this time he is not the focus and doesnt have the pressure on him to carry the forward line...still i miss him but he will serve you guys well....good luck to freo this year, look forward to watching ur games as last year you showed what you can do - and its exciting.

Eggsactly. You're stealing my lines ;) .

Tarrant has one role at Freo. Take pressure off Pavlich. The bonus is that pushes the third best defender to either Murphy or Campbell. When Collingwoods midfield was pumping in 2003 Tarrant kicked 50 goals. His output dropped off as Collingwood went down the ladder and their midfield struggled. I watched a few Pies games last year, and the supply Tarrant was getting was awful. He "should" get better supply this year but if he kicks 35+ we'd be happy.

Similar problems may plague Medhurst. He may get carp supply. I reckon it will take time for the Pies to figure out how to play him. He's not a small forward. He's not good enough at ground level -- especially compared to Davis and Didak. He's a bloody strong mid-sized forward though. My 2c worth is try playing him out of the goal square like the Bulldogs did with Brad Johnson last year. And give him some licence. He used to take the most spectacular grabs. He'll can give you 40 goals a year easy.

All players need confidence. Especially forwards.

Medhurst averages 1 goal and 1.6 points per game.

Farmer averages 2.5 goals and 1 point per game. Given that their primary role of kicking goals is the same, I would much rather have the accuracy levels that Farmer brings.

Leon Davis kicks 1.5 goals and 0.9 behinds, and is not regarded as the most efficient small forward going around.

Sampi averages 1 goal and 1.3 behinds and is absolutely bagged.

Medhursts real problem is that he has not been able to add another element to his game, including crumbing.

The thing with croad though that us "real" football fans don't appreciate that much is he brought a lot more people into the whole Freo thing. Which helped us financially.

All the good looking players help bring more people into the team, whether they are real fans or not matters little to the clubs. Tarrant is the same, even if he does little for us on the field he will still do something for the club financially. Whether "all combined" the Tarrant deal is worth it we will have to see when he retires.

Part of his problem at Collingwood, to me, seemed like he had little motivation on the field. Maybe this could be due to bad player relationships (Malthouse said he was very private), so maybe this move to Freo will force him to develop better relationships with the players.. who knows. I hope so anyhow.

We already dropped Medhurst; back to reserves because he wasn't good enough at kicking goals. The difference is, that in your forward line he is needed!

The other good thing is that we know Tarrant misses goals, so won't put him into a situation where we need him to be our number 1 goal kicker. I know, super smart isn't it.
No, Medhurst isn't needed, but we'll give him a chance - He does average the same number of goals per season as Chris Tarrant, you know.

And Tarrant wasn't our leading goal kicker. That's why we traded him - We got value for him that was the equivalent of someone who could kick straight, and honestly, if we didn't believe that we didn't need him any more, we would have held on to him.

That's great. I'm glad you are happy with your forward line. I'm happy with ours too.

I see Tarrant as a player much with the same rep as Mckernan had at North. Taz had one great year in 2003 & he has lived on that rep for years. He showed potential in the early years but 2004, 2005 & 2006 nothing more than a fair player.

I dont buy into the theory that he had poor supply, as the pies were the highest scoring team, so supply cant be that bad!!

He is not a full forwards toe nail. He is best to play on the HFF & you will get a good player out of it. He is not an A grader & never will be!

Pick 8 Ben Reid & Medhurst was an absolute steal for the pies & in time we will be clear winner out of that deal. Just like with Clemet & Holland.

In sounds like the Trent Croad & number 1 pick all over again!

Sorry guys but Taz will be good, but not the players you think he will be! BIG MISTAKE ONCE AGAIN:thumbsd: :thumbsd:
I like the idea you think Holland is a winner for you. He'd never get a game at Freo. He wouldn't be in our top 30.

But back to the question of supply. Collingwood scored more goals than anyone in 2006 but were ranked 13 in 2004, and 16th in 2005. So someone was struggling.

Tarrant was playing injured in 2006 so how do you take that into account?

Nobody here is looking for Tarrant to do anything other than kick his 35+ a year. Maybe 40. We already have a 70+ goal year forward, and another two forwards who are 35+ a year. We're not looking for Tarrant to star. Just contribute.

Tarrant will never be a mistake for us. Medhurst wasn't going to get the job done. You have to trade with the players that are on the market. We got the best player in the market at that time. And we got his best mate.

The way I see it is that Tarrant will play the role that Medhurst couldn't. He will play off the HF line lead up, then delivering to either Pav or Murphy or Longmuir or Sandi, with Farmer crumbing. Tarrant will play much further up the ground this year than he did last year.

I beleive that the coaching team would be happy with Chris just running out the game and not pulling up sore or too sore. He might not of kicked straight for goal which I also believe is his only weakness however he was number one in assists which will definitely help Pav etc..

It does not matter how Tarrant goes. He may kick 20 goals. We are not dependant on him. It matters how the forward line and the overall team goes. Tarrant will defintitely contribute to that simply by requiring a decent defender to man him up and run around in his wake. A fantastic running tall forward, who is acknowledged as one of the best marks in the game. That will do nicely, even with any flaws and foibles he has.

??? it doesn't matter how tarrant goes????????

what did u blokes give up to get him across??? ended up giving the pies pick8 in a super draft for taz, so taz has to perform as u missed out on a gun youngster.

may turn out to be one of those win-win type trades. If taz is back to something near full fitness he may well have another AA season playing on the HFF like in 2003. He is a brilliant lead and mark, and actually a nice pass to a lead, he just sprays shots on goal. Taz on fire is a great thing to watch, Freo for the flag for mine in 07, taz to stick it up his critics and have a massive year!

happy that the pies were able to grab B.Reid and Medders for him too tho, Reid already as a 17yr shows he may be something special, and medders may be a useful player who can kick 30 goals or so.

Medders is better than that, he can kick 50 goals. Not too many Collingwood forwards can say they have had 50 goal seasons. Watching that Tarrant highlights film, one thing was constant, he was against the best defender every time. That won't happen anymore. Should be good to watch

I love the assumptions that all draft picks are going to make it at the top level ;)
