Pick 10 it is then, which at the time was Hawthorn paying beyond Croad's value, and helps soften the whole Croad trade. That Dunn did nothing is irrelevant and just points to the lottery of the draft. Ray, Bradley (pre-reincarnation), Tenace and Dunn the stand-outs* for how difficult it is to get it right in drafting. All looked very plausible. Decent picks and good selections. Very low returns.

* actually just had a look at the draft and there are so many failures that it is not fair to name these players as standouts. Murphy says hi.

The good clubs know when to trade and when to retain there picks. The fact that we threw away top ten picks in the 2 strongest drafts ever (2001 and 2006) and loaded up in a shocking draft (2003) makes the previous admin looke even more incompetent.

Sub Human stands

I'm with sub human.

We (Harvey) resurected the careear of a complete dud and he has the gall to start flashing the collingwood jumper this week.
I'm old enough to remenber Fremantle oval at its peak with visiting teams getting spat on, beer thrown at them (sometimes used beer in the case of Mal Brown), all of which is too good for the dog.

I can forgive anything - except leaving Freo, and then rubbing our knows in it.

I want him booed, I want is family booed, I want any player who shakes his hand to be traded immediately.
My grandmother (may she RIP) used to hide on the fence with an umbrella and plant it in the ribs of any player who got within striking distance. When we play collingwood I want the ban on umbrellas lifted.

Apart from that I wish him well.

This is how I recall it too. With hindsight, we should have traded him then when he had more currency and no PSD threat.

It would have taken a very brave man to do that. Harves would have been out on his arse with another year like 2009, he needed all the experience and class he could get. As it turned out if Tarrant, Barlow, Balla, Mayne etc etc had been able to stay fit we might have got close to playing in the big one last year. Probably wouldn't have gotten past Geelong but we would have gone a hell of a lot closer.

Love this post, but Tarrant was never a dud. We did sell the farm to get him after all. Bloody Schwabolly, Ben Reid would fit very nicely in our backline right now and for the next 10 years

He never wanted to leave Collingwood in the first place. He came to Freo because we threw the picks at Collingwood and the money at him. That doesn't buy loyalty, because his loyalty was always with Collingwood.

It wasn't at all surprising that he left as soon as his contract was up, just like Croad.

croad was different situation to tarrant. croady pleaded to stay, he was treated horribly by schwabbolly who never played him where he was best suited, by the media who were on his back 24/7 like no other player i can remember and by many "fans" who booed/bronx cheered him every game. the croad situation annoys me, because the guys heart was quite clearly with freo, he was just never given the chance to play his best footy, and got ridiculed for it constantly. trent croad is the only ex-fremantle footballer i can say that i was happy to see get success. the fact that croad was treated so badly by the people who gave up so much to get him is an indictment on the idiots involved (and who are thankfully now involved with melbourne)

i agree now that tarrants heart was never with the club, its frustrating but the obvious truth, thankfully now under harvey's regime we can finally learn from the repeated failures of the past

People have short memories. I can distinctly remember the jeers and boos that Croad and Tarrant and McPhee faced, the latter been the mentally tougher. There was an article about Tarrant breaking rules by buying the paper and reading it in the car with a fresh latte or whatever.

Point is, the player cops these decisions and they are entities that abide by business rules. Supporters are emotional crackpots that speak words of stupidity at times. A player out of form that gets picked will get groans, a player coming back from injury not hitting their once high standards will get booed. Example after example after example.

We need to loosen up, enjoy the ride. Players are discarded and find form. We get them so what. Is Griffen a traitor? What about Lower?

Sure, I was disappointed Tarrant left, but we did well enough in the end with the trade back and probably got the best out of him. He is injury prone afterall. Good luck to him. Good luck to any WA players that find their way home at a suitable price.

underrated post :thumbsu: although lower was delisted and played a year in the sanfl.... the only people that port adelaide supporters can be angry at are ports coaching/development team
