Tarrant's role

Does anyone know why he was a late withdrawal? It says "arm" in the match report, but that's quite vague. Do we know the severity of it and if he will he be right for next week?

I say we chuck Taz forward for a week. I would love to see him in his old role and see how he goes, for old time's sake.:):thumbsu:

Probably would have still been a little "sore" so to speak.

You'd think he would play next week vs Freo.

He would have been real handy playing on Darling yesterday when Jack slipped away for some uncontested marks a few times. Would have freed up Harry (who was brilliant anyway) even moreso.

Using Taz as a swing man would be sweet and ideal too. Would have been interesting to see what the Eagles would have done in terms of matchups if we had thrown him forward.

If Taz does not start getting some regular game time shortly he may not be there in the final,s he really has had so little game time it is a worry.
What was the problem with him yesterday he needs more game time not less if he was being rested.

I really don't like the 3 x tall backs in the one team idea anyway.

WCE do it well with Glass, McKenzie and Schofield
Geel with Scarlett, Taylor, Lonergan.

IMO, our talls have the flexibility to be able to do it. Brown takes the gorilla. Reid the next best forward and Tarrant can play on the 3rd tall or quite capable of taking the mediums/smalls. He can also swing forward if need be.

It provides us with a major strength IMO and one we should look to exploit. (we probably would have already of all 3 had been available at the same time since the start of 2011 if not for injuries to all three of them at different stages).

Not sure about the 3 talls, it limits your decent rotations. We've been best when we have less tall backs on the ground. Pick the 2 fittest and in form. Taz would obviously have been rested for balance and possibility of rain against WCE.
I like Taz and Reid personally as a duo.

Taz was recruited as insurance first and foremost. His ability to play both ends is a bonus but let us not forget his final years at the Pies as a forward, quite frankly he was poor. The few times he has been tried in this role since returning have not seen him set the world on fire as he is primarily a defender now and has a different mindset.
Define poor.

In 2006 he played 20 games, avg 7.6 marks per game and 1.8 goals per game.....to end up with 151 marks and 36 goals.

We would kill to have a secondary or tertiary forward pulling those numbers this year. Remembering in 06 that Rocca was the 'Cloke' of today, and Buckley played some games from the goal square with Didak being a significant forward option.

Not against him going forward if one of Cloke or Dawes go down with injury during a game but realistically his days of holding down a forward role full time are over.
He could be used down back as the small defender, he has better decision making than Buckley, and can free up Harry to not get stuck with the most dangerous small forward, so Harry can provide more drive. If Benny Johnson doesn't make it back.
