Hi all, after reading all the posts on tarrants and moorcrofts marks i thought id take a bit of time to have a good look at them both side by side on the telly to see if i could decide who really has taken the mark of the year to this stage of the season. Now this is not a bias opinion as i dont follow either club, the things i looked for in these marks was the degree of difficulty, the hight of which the marks were taken and the work ethic employed in these marks.
Some poeple have said that moorcrofts mark should have been a free kick for a push in the back, well im sorry but i couldnt see that because 9 times out of 10 you have to put your knees in the back of your opponent to get the hight to take these marks, so if we start calling them as a free kick we can kiss these great marks good by.
Degree of difficulty:Moorcroft: A very hard mark to take as when you are at them hights and take the ball above your head and have to bend back as far as moorcroft did to complete the mark well thats just awesome, what more can i say, the only thing is it was a 1 on 1 mark so it is alot easier to get in that position than it would be in a pack of players.
Tarrant:A very difficult mark to take as he had to fight his way through a pack of players then climb up the back of another player while being held by the jumper then so id say its very difficult.
Hight of the mark: For a guy that is only 173cm to get up on the shoulders of a guy that is 182cm with 1 leap well thats unbelievable, as someone said in previous post, "The guy has got legs the size of a fun size mars bar", so i think he wins hands down in the hight of the jump.
As for tarrant he looked to get a bit higher than moorcroft but you would expect this of a player of his size (191cm) to be able to climb on the shoulders of a man that is 196cm (richardson) so nothing unusual about his leap apart from his jumper was being held.
Work ethic: Moorcroft did have to work hard to get in the position to take the mark but the ball was virtually coming straight at him so as for having to work hard to get to the contest well he was about allready there.
Where tarrant started about 15 to 25 meters behind to where the ball was heading so he had to work very hard to get involved in the contest.
So as rexy would say there is only a bees diaphragm in it.
Im not taking nothing away from moorcroft because it was a sensational mark and some people may disagree with me but there can only be one winner and at this stage of the season id say it would be tarrant, only because i think he had to work a bit harder to get the mark. Anyway thats my opinion and you can agree or disagree but im sticking with it........
