Fined, no conviction recorded:

I'm unsure of the direct timeline of Elijah Taylors case; but the Swan's suspended him immediately after he was charged.

Nobody could know whether he told them how he intended to plead at the time, and I doubt it would have made a difference.
Just checked the archives, and it looks like we're both misremembering.
He was sacked after he pleaded guilty to the assault charges.
He was suspended after he breached quarantine rules.

Unless their player contracts are written with crayons, it’s like they are ducking down behind legal walls that don’t actually exist and saying “ our hand are tied “

He was stood down immediately following the charges:

He was stood down immediately following the charges:

Read your own article. He was already serving a season long suspension for breaching quarantine.

“Taylor is currently serving a season-ending suspension for breaching the AFL’s Return to Play protocols and WA quarantine regulations last month.'

That statement made me furious.

“We take any allegation of threats of violence against women extremely seriously. Respect of all people is fundamental to our club values.”

Yet the cu** is allowed to turn up to training the next day, all while being CHARGED by police and multiple other allegations to his name which are being investigated…. Shame on you Norf

The North board makes for some interesting reading.

There's a poster there who is particularly active in the Tarryn Thomas thread who is thinking this is a storm in a teacup because Thomas never followed through on his threats and because "everyone's time is coming eventually."

Context is important here:

He was suspended for breaching quarantine rules in August (i.e he could still train and attend club events, however not available for selection).

He was immediately “stood down” following being charged for the assault in September. Meaning he is no longer able to attend the club, events, train etc.

Otherwise it would make no sense for Tom Harley to publicly announce that they had stood him down following the charge.

That’s my understanding at least.

"Education and training"

Christ the AFL are dumb as s**t. Why do they put themselves in these situations?

Obviously the players in these situations need to be stood down. Make it easy for everybody.
I think they still believe they can cover everything things up when it has been shown constantly that most times it will come out

I wasn't reflecting on Sydney's response, I was responding to the suggestion that Sydney set a strong precedent on domestic violence by standing Taylor down, when the reality was that he was stood down for other reasons.

No he wasn't. See response above

No, they specifically came out and said that they were standing him down from all club commitments following the charges.

He was suspended from playing due to other reasons, but he was still able to attend club functions, train, etc.

When he was stood down, all of that was taken away from him.

Not sure how obvious it is to stand someone down. It is certainly easy for many. North have had three players on criminal charges recently: Daw, Dumont and Thomas. None have been stood down. These all followed St Kilda standing down Milne for a couple of weeks and the players association protesting. I believe that it is standard AFL advice not to. As foul as Thomas's alleged behaviour is, I think North are just playing this by the book.

huh? Daw and Dumont were both charged back in June and October 2014.

I wouldn't classify that as being recent - and the times have certainly changed since then (nearly 10 years ago).

I think there are significant differences between Taylor's situation when he was stood down and Thomas' situation now.

But in any case, my view is that Thomas should have been stood down last year, especially given there were multiple women making broadly consistent allegations across multiple episodes.

Having said all that, its appears Thomas was internally suspended from playing games in the seniors last year, and that Hood is doing everything by the book.

All I'm saying is that "the book" itself is probably worth reexamining.

This is the most important distinction.

Now just because he has been charged doesn't mean he is guilty yet but by the reporting of it, it sounds like there are a lot of saved messages he is going to have to try and discredit as fake as a hail Mary.

Does anyone know the timeline of the events? Did this stuff come the AFL's attention around the same time as the indigenous (for lack of a better word) slavery type stuff was leaked by the ABC?

If I put on all my tinfoil hats and engage in real mass conspiracy theory and the timelines match up then it is the only way to even try and rationalise how the AFL acted with this. If it was during the hight of the indigenous article then the AFL would be downright allergic to doing anything that could be perceived as throwing an indigenous player under the bus. This is would be a wild conspiracy though. Less than 1% chance of being remotely true.

The way this has gone for the AFL it seems that the threshold for just needing sensitivity courses starts at grabbing a strippers tit consensually and extends to physical violence (because the AFL left it to the Swans to sack Taylor when he was charged). Gotta love the AFL sitting on the fence and hoping the club's make the right decisions when a player is charged.
