In all seriousness he said that he'd never rule it out

If they win another flag, then start to fall away - I think Pies fans would give him their blessings to try and carve out a legacy at Tasmania as well
if I am Brendan Gale I am offering a 8 year package to both Nick & Josh to be the face of the ‘family’ club, integral captain & Vice .. Then ensure their families are looked after with meaningful employment and a mansion in Sandy Bay.

Yes, they are. What I'm saying is the birth rate amongst the native born population is probably lower than that of immigrants. When the whole pie is shrinking, the AFL have to be more efficient at carving themselves a piece of it, so they had better be focusing on capturing more of the people who are having more kids.
when you have more immigrants in a housing shortage it will result in less native births.

Agree. I assume that's what drove putting the Giants out in western Sydney. Where migrant birthdates are probably higher than the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Nrl seems to benefit from high birth rate amongst Pacific island migrants.
It's all very interesting because the AFL only have so much control over all of this.

Unless there is some major change the AFL will start running out of quality players in the 2030s.
AFL failed to capitalise on the Lebanese migration in western Sydney. Pacific Islanders were always going to end up dominating NRL.. However their size of the Islander kids is pushing many Anglo families away from the sport and into other codes, this is where AFL needs to make sure they are seen as the ‘safe’ sport.

Concussion issues are not going to help with this. The AFL had better be planning some kind of mitigation.

Was at women’s game today and umpire allowed sling tackles. One girl got tackled and her head hit the ground hard. Umpire called holding the ball.

I said to my sister in law that’s why I won’t let my children play AFL. A player from the firsts heard me and agree after she was concussed and had a 6 week break.

Time to crack down on sling tackles.

They should have spent the last 5 years negotiating with the players association to have an expansion draft for Tasmania, as well as any other new teams in the future.

Would have made Tasmania competitive straight away without the need to touch the National Draft.

Yes, because the rest of the list will be happy with minimum wage.
They will have extra salary cap concessions compared to other clubs, all players they bring in from other clubs are going to be on big money.

players that get drafted will just be on standard draft contract that's how it works.

If it's not them it will be someone else taking the big money, but if I am Tasmania, I would be headhunting those two then moving on to other guys like Serong.

I dont think there is any doubt that the AFL will allow salary cap concession to ensure the team is able to attract players over the first 10 years, just as they did with GWS & GCS.. Just hope that no obscure NRL star is paid 2mil to change codes..

About 3/4 of the list will be DFA, state league or drafted players on or near to minimum wage. They are probably going to have to spend ~$15mil on their best dozen or so players

So you think they'll go the Carlton route?

Hey, look at our stars! Watch how they struggle to carry the rest of the team...

Good teams have depth.

I think you are naive to think they will be a 'good' team round 1 2028, the aim from the AFL will be for them to be competitive and maybe even snag 3-4 wins in the first 2 seasons and then hopefully by season 5 challenge for finals.

They will be bad the first few years like every expansion team.

How few is the question.

and how will people react is those bad years go on for a while...

Tas business case pretty much relies on almost all Tasmanians (and a few beyond Tas) to switch clubs and support them.

But human nature says they wont just forget their old club, and on some level they'll probably support them as a second club.

10, 15 years of failing to make finals (like, say, Gold Coast) and how many 'second clubs' start reasserting their No1 position in peoples hearts, especially if those clubs are going well?

Not sure how much its been spoken about but Tasmania has been given a "war chest" to provide sign on fees for any new players. The plan basically is along the lines of "We will give you 3 million dollars tomorrow and then 1 mill a year for 3 years" style of negotiating to get players over with fees given outside of the cap to entice them over

Alot more players are interested in Tasmania then people realise because of this.

What’s the go with Tasmania academy? Is it like northern academies? If so they’ll clean up with their u16’s talent destroying GC academy 171 - 7 yesterday

You have to think that there should be limits.
