Not really, if you are just getting it for yourself, that's why I have mine on my shoulder.

You have it on your shoulder so nobody can see it???

I always see women, younger girls especially, getting around with tattoos on their shoulders. I hardly find it attractive. I think tattoos can be tasteful, if they are in the right place. Not everyone would share my sentiments though. Each to their own.

lolz, Yeah spose so

Don't get me wrong. Go ahead and get it. I doubt I'm going to like the crow cover art when I'm 50 but I don't care right now, it'll be somewhere I can cover it up and I'll get maybe 30 years out of it :D

i got a tatoo as a present to myself when i turned 18...and i love it!! i hate needles but there was no pain at all...ok so a little but its nothing you cant handle.

i got mine above my left ankle only in black and its a symbol that means something to me. i dont understand people who just want to get a tatoo for the sake of it. my mate got hers done after me and i think shes stupid...as its a butterfly on her back! just pretty much what every girl has! and i would suggest to get a symbol or a picture that means somehting to you...not what you found in the book at the tatoo place becasue as they say at 50 you might regret you have it and if its big its hard to cover!

also they say that after one tatoo you always want another and i think thats true as im planning to get another when im back in australia...prob when i turn 21!

this thread makes me want to fire up the barbeque.

actually, no it doesn't.

Strange, I think people who get little symbols that "mean something to them" usually are the ones who just want a tattoo for the sake of having one. Like all those people getting around with asian writings on them. My ass that symbol means calm lake I'm sure it means something like dogs nut. :D

ok...so no im not egyptian and i aint asian...i didnt get my tatoo coz i wanted to be 'cool' or something. i got mine becasue i fully believe that this tatoo represents who i am and where my heritage comes from. i didnt just wake up in bed one day and decided that i wanted a tatoo. it was for me sayin this is who i am and im quite proud to show it to the world.

i honestly couldnt have something permantly drawn on me that i just thought was cute for the moment. i think it was u basic that said u had a tatoo with your sisters name...that makes sense..someone else said that they had a celtic sybol coz they were irish...mine is the exact same thing....and its not my name in chinese or japanese!

Nah, I actually agree with raine. The Asian scripts are often a choice because they're fashionable, but I don't think that's the sort of 'meaning' she was talking about (ie a non-Roman-alphabet/straight picture meaning). Moreso a meaning that is personal to someone, that you couldn't care less if anybody else understands or not.

I don't even have my ears pierced, for fear of the pain, let alone get a tattoo! The ancient Egyptian goddess Isis represents a lot to me, so if I was going to get a tattoo, it'd probably be one, or a combination of, the Egpytian hieroglyphic symbols of the ankh (eternal life), the djed-pillar (stability), or the Knot of Isis. Maybe the djed-pillar plus the ankh - together, respectively they are the reunion of the Egpytian god Osiris and his sister-wife Isis, and symbolise opposing forces (life and death) and the "unconquerable nature of life":

And one for you, Nic...the djed-pillar also symbolises the phallus. ;)

Me too but lets see how you go after an hour of having needles bumping into the bones in your hand :)
