Plan on getting a cursive letter H on my left pec to represent my family.

Wouldn't mind a band around my wrist either.

Wouldn't mind one. Although there's nothing worse than seeing a chick with a tattoo. Feral. If I ever got one it would have to be somewhere it couldn't be seen, but then it kinda defeats the purpose, right?

me too, i had a thing for a girl with tattoos, but you couldnt really see it on her. she had one on her leg, and she had one on her thigh. she had a nice face, a little bit overweight but her tattoos were seemless

ON THE FLIPSIDE : i was walking at a classy bar the other day and i saw this woman, who was in her late 30s-40 and she had clearly visible scars on his shoulder area of a pattern that was "once there", it appeared she had removed a tribal type tattoo, but you can never really 100% remove a tattoo.

anyway i have better things to do with my money than put it on my skin that i have to look at for a long time. i can name a million better things to do: #1 - piss it up a wall!

tattoos are usually for: gym junkies, goths, emos, artsy fartsy types or for people who didnt have better things to do with their money (but i do mean it in the nicest sincerest way!)

tattoos DO look horrible by the time a person is 40, NOT 60! and i laugh at people who say that they arent going to care what the world is going to be like 40-60 years time.

my uncle got an 07 and 08 premiership tatoo...

just kiddin:D
he got a tat on his lower stomach (to the side), with the oldschool geelong 'cat' logo and 'premiers 07' writtin above it. looks sick

does anybody here watch the american national basketball comp?

if you watch the matches involving the cleveland cavaliers, pretty much the entire starting lineup for that team is a tattooed army (lebron james, delonte west, maurice williams)

and then there's their starting centre zydrunas ilgaukas.

if you wanted to be lazy as a journalist you can raise a meaningless statistic that ilgaukas "has no tattoos on his body" :p

seriously the players that play nba really do overdo it on occassion, the ones to point out come in the form of chris andersen for the denver nuggets, matt barnes for the phoenix suns and allen iversen for the detroit pistons

the players that i admire more than anyone else in the nba are the ones that dont have tattoos in the form of clean cut players in ray allen, paul pierce and grant hill, most the european and import players (andersen varejao, yao ming, ilgauskas, pavlovic) dont have tattoos either. as a matter of fact: ray allen and paul pierce won the nba championship last year out of all those players who covered themselves up trying to look tougher and meaner than everyone else with their tattooed charade.

Nothing less attractive than a Tat.

My number 1 turn off in a chick is if she has a tat. She could be the hottest girl in the world but if she has a tat then she instantly drops 2 points, meaning she can only be a maximum 8/10.

Tramp stamp and a tat on the neck are the two worst offences. If my daughter ever got one of those i'd top myself.

Depends what and where it is HBG.

Not a fan of the bulls eye above the ass (small of the back), that's been overdone to the shit and is now just trashy.

I think below the neck should be a general rule as well haha, but everyone is entitled to decorate their body as they see fit.

I'd get one if I felt it a big part of my life.

I'm kind of undecided on getting some tattoos. My main indecision comes from if I want the tattoos there for the rest of my life, as well as if I want that 'image' for myself for the rest of my life too, as what I want to get will be in a fairly obvious and 'on show' spot (forearms).

I'm pretty clean cut and inoffensive looking (mostly other people's opinion), as well as being pretty good looking too IMO (again, other people's opinion, but I do have a bit of self belief too :D) and I like being that way, and I don't want that spoilt by having tattoos that people think are ugly or look tasteless. I know I should probably go with my heart and not worry what others think (tattoos are arguably the ultimate form of self-expression and individuality, after all), but whether we like it or not, some people do label others who have tattoos. Not as much these days (as tattoos are more common, especially with young people), but it still happens. I don't want to jeopardise or interfere with future employment either, and I like to keep my options as open as possible, but some employers do look down on people with large, obvious tattoos like mine would be, even if they remain covered. Even having to cover them (even required for entry into some clubs and bars these days) would defeat the purpose of getting them IMO.

For an example on negative opinions on tattoos, my mum (a fun, open-minded woman in her early 50s) absolutely detests tattoos, and thinks they look 'dirty' and basically thinks they make people look like 'scumbags' (for lack of a better term). She thinks they're the domain of bikies and guys who look like Joffa (no offense intended), and that young, decent looking guys (and girls, too) 'ruin their looks' by getting tattoos. I know that's only one person's opinion, but I can see what she means in a way. As well, the opinions of those that you love and respect always holds weight.

I find well-done tattoos interesting, and like tattoos if they have symbolism and meaning to the person. Some look unavoidable tacky, howver, and I dislike how a lot of people (mainly young guys) have the 'tribal' tattoos these days, or have the ones under their upper arm (eg. Brendan Fevola, for a recognisable example). It's generalising a bit, but those sort of tattoos just scream of trying to look cool IMO, and are just a lame and pointless I think.

Anyway, if I were to get something, the first thing I'd like to get would be wings similar to what J.D. Fortune (former lead singer of INXS) has on his forearms. I'd get them on the outside of my forearms, and on the inside of each I'd get these song lyrics (half on each side): "I'm capable of anything. My imagination can give me wings." ("Thugs Mansion" by Nas). I'm not particularly a hip-hop fan (and certainly am not one of these 'wannabe gansta' types at all), but the lyrics resonate with me, and tie into the other part of the tattoo well. I'm a fairly creative person, and plan to work in a creative field for my future career (writing, either books or television), and feel the sentiment appropriate for me and how I am.

I'd think J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets would have to be right up there as well. He has both of his arms covered, as well as much of his upper body.

Entertainers like Lil' Wayne and Randy Orton (WWE) have a large amount of interesting tattoos as well. And I can't neglect to mention players from my beloved Collingwood such as Dayne Beams and Dane Swan, who both have a fair bit of ink done (in comparison to most AFL players) as well.

On the topic of girls and tattoos - lately, I've been finding girls with tattoos more and more attractive. Not just like the small meaningless little picture on the back or ankle or anything (like a lot of girls have), but 'proper' tattoos that have thought put into them and would take some doing. There's some pretty attractive girls her in Adelaide that I've seen around with some large tattoos on their shoulders and back that look great. They're not necessarily the 'hardcore' or 'metalhead' type either, which is alright I suppose, as I'm not generally into those types of girls.

the best tattoo i ever saw was someone who had a Line on his bicep... and it didnt run right around his bicep either

"a straight line" and it was a thin one too, no other patterns. almost implying that this is where the surgical incision (with the scalpel) should be :)

anyway, a joke i heard about tattoos was on the show "Love My Way" where brendan cowell's character Tom was having breakfast with his shirt off and another character pointed out that maybe he should get his tattoo changed. because his tattoo was of a person in his life, that no longer was together with him.
her name was katie. the other character in the scene said: maybe you should add an S in front of it, get it changed to "SKatie" instead

:)

anyway its unusual how much the world has changed with regards to tattoos, in the past people in movies that wear tattoos are normally villains. of yesterday's world michael jordan doesnt have any tattoos and hes an inspiring and awesome athlete, and the modern day equivalent lebron james is pretty covered with them - although his dark skin defeats the purpose of him actually getting ink down. pretty much all athletes, gym junkies etc are obsessed with getting tattoos these days.

but the deal with tattoos: in my opinion is to make them appear seemless. josh homme of queens of the stone age might have a few, but you dont notice it on him. watching the qotsa live dvd homme's got one sleave rolled up, one rolled down, the one rolled down covers up his tattoo. without even showing any tatts: josh homme appears clean cut but is one tough looking hombre.

TATTOOS place in society has changed so much in the last 10/20 years. When l was growing up seeing people with a tattoo or tattoos they were either ex jail bird, wanna be tough guy, bikie, sportsmen or a rocker(no l don't have one). They were never seen on women and if anyone had a tattoo for another reason if was never seen while they were at work.these days everybody has a least one more girls have them and have them where you can see them.more sportspeople have them inc AFL footballers l don't have anything against them l just see them everywhere and they seem to be the lastest must have or that tready thing to have..

^****, you are power king in another body (even though I have no desire for a tattoo).

i agree with this entire post

the thing is whats going to happen to all these people who have them in say 20-30 years time?

the ink's gunna run, their skin's not so going to be so tight... and dont give me the whole - "im living here now" excuse, etc etc etc, has anybody checked the life expectancy statistics? people are living longer - and people are also spending their money on stupider things as well

we're going to get a bunch of middle aged people with all these saggy tattoos, by then im sure tattoos will go out of fashion the kids of the next generation will ask today's generation whether or not they were in jail or whatever

oddly enough, barbie (yes - her!) is to blame for women getting tattoos. in today's generation.

oh and another generalisation for women with tatts is that dykes get tattoos :thumbsd:

one more question: whats the deal with darker nba basketball players getting tattoos? i dont speak of matt barnes, but shaquille oneal, lebron james or kobe bryant? they are pretty dark, they might as well have got a caramel coloured tatt instead of giving the appearance of a marking on a cow instead

the right way "to purvey" a tattoo is the way chris martin of coldplay or REM's michael stipe how they do it - they scribble something on their hands with a felt pen and you can see it when theyre playing piano, imagine if the band U2 were all rude crude tattooed dudes in their day, it wouldnt look very good on them right now wouldnt it?

or even the old fashioned way of wearing a t-shirt with a word on it by midnight oil frontman peter garrett

They all look rubbish after a length of time.

Know this chick, she has one around her wrist. Hadn't given it much attention until she got another one around her other wrist.

The contrast between the two is unbelievable. New one looks like fresh paint, the old looks like washed out prison ink. She'd be about 33, I'm guessing, so the old one would probably be 15 years old max and it looks rubbish.

ive been told that poor ink work is due to people not taking care of them, sposed to get them re inked every 7-8 years or so apparantly (each are different depending on skin/exposure)

all mine will be getting redone a couple of times in my life, if only just for the pure thrill of it.
