its just a bandwagon thing. id reckon the majority of people with a southern cross tatoo wouldnt even know what it looks like in the sky, wouldn't know what australia day is for etc etc

i reckon the best way to show love of your country is to have a bit of knowledge about it first

I think you would be very wrong in your assumptions.

Not to my taste but Jeremy Shockey's (NFL) tatt is well done:

Ive never seen a player with a team tatoo i guess cos u never now when u wil be traded

But if you dont have one you are a girl. lol

In fact if you dont have half ur body covered you are weak .
Quinten Lynch has one on his ribs I think.

Sam butler has the ying yang on his ankle... Obviously fev has a few and Cousins(well we all know that). Just about 5-10 players have on in every club.

What about Dessy Headlands tattoo of his daughter. Looks pretty shit IMO, I am sure his girl doesnt look as bad as the ink turned out. I am sure he expected some high quality Miami ink style, and it looked more like a Mr Skwiggle portrait

See I have no problem with that because Ricciuto is one of the toughest blokes going around, he's not a showpony and he backs it up. Plus his tattoos are big and important to him because it's something to do with his family heritage.

I never realised that Ricciuto had so much ink on him

*Sigh*

I remember that show.. 'Mr Squiggle, the man from the moon'.

I wonder if parents will regret having their child's face or name tattoo'd on them when they're a teenager.. lol.

the old sea serpant or dragon from the seventies

Mark my words, there will be a return to the "Sailor tatts" of old. We'll look back on celtic bands and chinese writing with the same amount of scorn reserved for permed mulletts from the 80's.

Wot's not in fashion can never go outta fashion.

correct.
ive almost got my 3rd one finished. Covers most of my right forearm. Its a comic book style image of my wife with our wedding anniversary. Got it as a 1st year anniversary thing. If you know who Carlos Tevez is well its the same style as his on his right forearm.
Tattoos are great, once u get one u want to get another.
Im still waiting to get my Collingwood Premiers one, last time we won i was 9 so was a tad young :)

I hope your marriage is a long one, Dan

southern cross is so common and un-original. by the way, getting the union jack on its own could look funny - people would think you're a pom, but getting just the aussie flag, i dont see the problem with that? so it's got the union jack in it? that has more historical relevance to our country than the southern cross. sure the southern cross is symbolic, but in terms of meaning to our country's past, the union jack holds more significance. the thousand of diggers who died for us fought for not only australia, but our mother country - the union jack. i dont know why people are so ashamed of the union jack, it's part of who we all are and where we've come from as aussies. sure country's evolve but that doesnt mean you have to forget your past or erase it from your future. i count myself as aussie as i come and i love our flag and our history that it represents.

I'm going to start by saying I have a Southern Cross tattoo, among others. My 3 young boys ask me what it means, & I tell them it represents to me the country that I live in & love.

Since this country's federation in 1901, we've had this flag, which I also love -

As you can see, it has the Southern Cross on it.

The term "digger" came into use around the time of the failed Gallipoli campaign, some 14 years after the adoption of the flag, complete with Southern Cross.

Many historians believe that this was the time of the birth of a nation's pride; a feeling of belonging in the world.

So by this logic, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Southern Cross may hold some sentimental attachment.

My reason for getting this tatt was to show my sense of pride in being an Aussie.

I had a grandfather fight in WW2, and a great-grandfather fight in WW1. This is also a tribute to them.

I think you proved my point, saying tattoos can be symbolic. They can be a symbol of your beliefs, whether you love Australia or KFC or whatever. Let's not pass judgement on others without having a think first.

Unless they're Carltank scum...:D:D

Will hopefully have my upper right arm finished this saturday, ive got a close mate who is a Kiwi and his brother in law does the Kiwi tats that explain his family and life story and mine is done in a similar way in the outside and inside of my right arm and up on my shoulder.

I see where alot of dis-approvers come from but the fact is us people with tats choose to have for personal reasons and thats it!

Mine is my history and i love it...... My next one will be on my left arm and will have the Australian flag merged with an Italian flag with a tribal background to represent my Heritage as an Italian Australian.

When i can be bothered i might post some pics for you guys.

Great post, i also had family that served in both world wars and my Southern Cross tattoo is a tribute to them aswell as showing pride in my country, MY way of showing pride and being patriotic.

I didn't get it to make a fashion bloody statement.

I can still do chicks with tat's, nose studs or pretty much anything of that nature. One you pass up is one you never get back:D

I just came back from Bali and I saw a chick there with full sleeves and her chest done. Most beautiful thing i have seen. Couldnt take my eyes off her. Which pissed my wife off. THE MORE THE BETTER
